Our trio Artisan Jazz, slipped into a red-hot groove last night. My intuition told me we were under the intoxicating influence of the full moon.
I sorted through my in-box where I keep low-priority mail, unsolicited calendars from my alma mater, Prudential Insurance, the Humane Society. Though they listed Arbor Day, Benito Juarez’s birthday, Eid a Fitr day, nowhere did they note the moon cycle.
For fear of being characterized as an astrology freak, someone who consults a star ephemeris every time he goes to his poker game, let me assure you, I haven’t a Druidic bone in my body. You’ll never find me casting the runes, auguring pigeon entrails, or avoiding black cats. I never dance on the knoll under the full moon--unless of course, my date likes that sort of thing.
Still, I believe the moon does affect us. Put me in a storm cellar, I'll guess when the moon's at apogee. It’s that feeling you get on a rolly coaster, the momentary pause at the top of the hump before all that stored kinetic energy is released and you plummet over the precipice.
I was an arts director at a downtown library for years. All our lunatics descended upon us on the night of the full moon as if chartered on the Luna Express: the rumpled anorexic creature who sprayed DuPont Day-Glo up his nose and played Dr. Demento disks; the preacher, dapper in a Thrift Store suit, who delivered dramatic recits from a desk dictionary; a city accountant, from all appearances the consummate professional, who felt a compulsion to spray our oversize art books.
That all of us are affected came home to me in my writerly life. I began to notice that when the moon was most aglow I was as voluble as Shakespeare, a cacophony of voices struggling to be heard, like a high volum...

...discovered recently that the lunar month is getting longer, a bit less than a fiftieth of a second every century. Can you blame the Humane Society and Prudential for not dirtying up their calendar with every full-, new-, gibbous- and crescent moon? Crowding out National Mullet Day, Hobo Week, Marfan Syndrome Month? Let Farmer's Almanac truck in such unscientific tripe as when to put in the snap peas or negotiate a treaty with Hamas? Never mind that "There is a time for sowing and a time for reaping…
If you find yourself on some magical evening, suddenly doing the lambada like Felipe Polanco, or bowling a perfect game, or playing a jazz riff so hot the waiters are pouring out of the kitchen, and you look out the eastern-most window and there is an effulgent full moon. . . .
Don't get moonstruck. Don't buy into that hookum, moonshine. Probably just a coincidence.
Throughout the story “Walk Two Moons” written by Sharon Creech, Mrs.Winterbottom is faced with internal and external conflicts that lead her to change.
In The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, the main character, Peekay, notes that many deaths of those close to him occur during the full moon. He regards the full moon as a difficult time. However, the full moon also serves another purpose. In The Power of One, the full moon brings Peekay both physical and mental strength to conquer his fears. With this strength, he experiences a spiritual death and rebirth during the full moon.
This can be seen in the story right after the wild rumpus as it now day time once more in Max’s imaginary world. Because the moon is no longer floating in the sky he no longer feels the need to act out his animal instincts with the wild things. Not only does he start to act more human again, but he also begins to feel human emotion again as he becomes homesick and yearns for his mother’s love (Sendak). As he sails back home, the full moon can be seen again from the image of him on his boat in the ocean and outside of his bedroom window once he returns. However, this time around, the moon is noticeably less bright than when his journey initially began. The reason for the moon to be shown again in the ocean in a time when it does not seem as vital is that it is supposed to show Max’s transition back to reality. The point of this is that when Max returns to his bedroom, he comes back from his imagination within the same night, most likely only a brief moment after he initially left. This also further supports the theory of Max actually becoming a werewolf until the full moon, as his entire imagination, no matter how long he thought he perceived the time in it, only happens momentarily in reality, which hints that this was his dream state while being transformed. The fact the moon seems to start to dim helps to enforce his return, as he is also seen taking
Throughout the day we are constantly checking the time, preparing for the upcoming months, and keeping track of the year. Clocks tell us the time we use as a measurement. It’s how we keep track of those important months and events, such as holidays and birthdays. Although there are many investigations and research being done on the nature of time, many unresolved issues remain.

Pictures of the sun and moon were found in several Suffolk churches and the churches themselves were built to face the rising sun.
The atmosphere entertainment program at the Paris Las Vegas should, at its base, reflect the duality of the property: the artistry and classicism of the French methods of entertaining and living with the sensual allure and thrilling vibe of the Las Vegas Strip. Orion Productions proposes three variable programs, all which can be interchanged and combined to accommodate for high and lower traffic days and special casino and hotel promotions. Both male and female dancers will be enlisted for the program, to capture the romantic ambiance of a Parisian interlude or getaway. Each one of the performers will be chosen by Paris Las Vegas’ management through a casting call, and only performers expressly selected by management will be featured in the entertainment program.
Upon its first mention the moon is used as a marker for the passage of time. In the opening lines of the play Theseus, the duke of Athens, laments to his fiancée Hippolyta that time is passing too slow and blames this on the moon:
The dizzying laser lights flashed in synchronicity with the pulsating bass of the music that bounced off the psychedelic warehouse walls. As my boyfriend and I mentally attempted to organize the chaos surrounding us, we pushed our way through the crowd of spasmodic lunatics who contorted their bodies in time with the music and lights. We located a couch in a room covered with cartoonesque, hyper-graphic graffiti. An androgynous man sat himself at my feet and began massaging my thighs, while a girl with her eyes rolled back into her head demanded that my boyfriend give her a massage. Just then the deejay laid his head in my lap, told me he was in love with me, and placed a bitter pill on my tongue. This certainly was the most bizarre method of earning three graduate credit hours I could imagine.
There are five basic theories in the formation of our moon. The first is the "fission theory" which states that the moon was once a part of earth, but separated a long time ago. The second theory is called the "capture theory". This theory is says that the moon formed somewhere else, and was "captured" by earths gravitational pull. The third theory is called the "condensation theory" this theory states that the moon and earth were condemned together from the original nebula that formed our solar system. The fourth theory called the "Colliding Planetesimals Theory" states that the interaction between the earth orbiting the sun, and the sun orbiting planetesimals, which are large Astroid like rocks, led to the breakup and formation of our moon from the debris of these planetesimals. The fifth and final theory is called ...
?The Eagle has landed.? Many people use this phrase without knowing where it came from. On July 20, 1969, NASA astonished the world, when Neil Armstrong spoke these words when the Apollo spacecraft, nicknamed ?the Eagle,? landed on the moon?s surface. He later spoke the famous words, ?One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,? when he was the first man to set foot on the moon. When astronauts walk on the moon, they are allowed to breathe, because of their space suits. These space suits have oxygen tanks in them, and allow astronauts to stay out in space for up to seven hours at a time. They have to think ahead a few steps so they can step or turn without difficulty, because they have to take huge steps. The pull of gravity on the moon is one-sixth lower than the pull of gravity on the Earth, which makes them a lot lighter on the moon. The moon?s gravitational pull controls the ocean?s tides on the Earth. The moon pulls the Earth and water towards it, which causes an increase of water nearest the moon. As the moon pulls the core of the Earth towards it, the water on the side farthest away from the moon flings around to the side, and creates an increase of water there, too. The increase of water is called a high tide. On the sides of the Earth not facing the sun or moon, there are low tides. Each beach or po...
“That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind,” I say as I step out from Eagle, our lunar module, and place my foot on the powdery and silver moon. It’s 10:56 p.m. and the whole world is watching me. I’ve never thought this moment in my life would be so important to the world.
The gravitational forces between the Earth and the moon cause some interesting effects; tides are the most obvious. The moon has no atmosphere, but there is evidence by the United States Department of Defense Clementine spacecraft shows that there maybe water ice in some deep craters near the moon's North and South Pole that are permanently shaded. Most of the moon's surface is covered with regolith, which is a mixture of fine dust and rocky debris produced by meteor impact. There are two types of terrain on the moon. One is the heavily cratered and very old highlands. The other is the relatively smooth and younger craters that were flooded with molten lava.
Which does not make sense because the only time they move it is when they put it in the moon.
