Background & Beginning of The War

Hitler felt that the Treaty of Versailles passed in 1919 was unfair towards the Germans. The Treaty of Versailles forced Germany to give up its military and pay $32 billion for damages of World War I. However, when Hitler rose to power in the 1930s, he believed Germany can build greater civilizations since the Aryan race was superior to others. Hitler acted by beginning to take over land. The Munich Agreement signed on September 30th, 1938 agreed to Hitler’s capture of Sudetenland in exchange for him to promise not to take any more land. The signers of the agreement were Adolf Hitler, Neville Chamberlain, and Edouard Daladier. Hitler had his “fingers crossed” when he signed the agreement. Two weeks later, Hitler went back to invading territories such as Czechoslovakia. The Non-Aggression Pact was signed in early 1939 by Hitler and Stalin agreeing that neither the Soviet Union or Germany will attack each other. Hitler saw this pact as …show more content…

The Nazi’s government was called the Vichy Government and the South of France was called the Free Government. Hitler and the Germans agreed to allowing France a government. In 1941, the United States declared war on Germany along with Japan. AMerican troops were sent into Europe to assist the Allies. The Battle of Stalingrad in 1942 involved the Soviet Union and Germany. Germany went to attack the Soviet Union which broke the Non-Aggression Pact signed in 1939. The Soviet Union won the battle because Germany surrendered. The Allies had planned to invade Normandy, France on June 6th, 1944. The invasion was also known as “Operation Overlord” and “D-day¨.
