World War 1...what is it? Normally when you think about it you must be wondering how on earth am I still alive! World War 1 was also known as The Great War that took place from 1914-1918 within most parts of Europe. Within this informative essay I will be talking about the features, the results, the end, and how World War 1 changed the lives of the Europeans. Before the war started, European countries felt a force pushing them towards war. As these feelings started to rise the Great Powers of Europe started to form alliances. The first alliance consisted of Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary they called themselves the Triple Alliances. The second alliance consisted of France, Britain, and Russia and they called themselves the Triple Entente. International tensions start to build up between the European countries. Each country trying to prove itself as more superior compared to the other countries. An increase in nationalism within certain countries. During the war, countries created new weapons and increased technological advancement. Such creations included rapid machine gun, artillery gun, aircraft, tanks, poison gas, u-boats, etc. The war also had an affect on the way people lived their lives. Before the war the citizens within each country felt a temporary relief from their internal divisions. Many men diliberatley enlisted themselves into the army and the women supporting them every step of the way. During the war foreigners recieved harsh treatments and were forced to do labor for the country they are in. They were also exposed to brutal conditions and were mistreated. There were a limited supply of resources since most of the supplies are being sent to the soldiers in war. Many women had to work in the factories in ord... ... middle of paper ... ...ar on Russia. Russia seeked help from France. Germany demanded that France doesn't interfere with the war. When France objected to Germany's demands; Germany declared war on France. While the alliances were being formed Britain decided to stay a neutral country and not take sides or interfere with the war. Germany, although, got them to change their minds. The German army created a plan that was believed to be able to take down Russia and France in one battle. This plan was called the Schlieffen Plan, named after the general who created it, General Alfred von Schlieffen. The plan was to first move toward the French army since Russia's army mobilizes quite slowly then to quickly turn around and move towards the Russian army. In order to follow this plan through, the German army had to pass through Belgium. However Belgium had signed a treaty guaranteeing neutrality.
