Our mission is to create a better world for Children, the hungry and the poor. We believe that when one sponsors a child, they have transformed a community because empowering children creates a safe and a bright future for vulnerable children. We believe that changing a child’s life is addressing the root cause of poverty in the community and creating long lasting solutions. It’s about addressing the needs of the community by creating work opportunities for their parents who then provide better lives for their children. We ensure that children enjoy hope, dignity, peace and fullness of life by working in different areas which all contribute to better lives for the communities (World Vision Canada). We give priority to people before money. …show more content…
While on a brief trip to China, Pierce met Tena Hoelkedoer who introduced him to White Jade. White jade was a girl who had been battered and abandoned. Tena was unable to care for her and she requested Pierce to help. Pierce gave out his last five dollars and promised to continue sending supporting for the child. The encounter with the abandoned child inspired Pierce to start an organization which would be dedicated to helping needy children. That is the story of how world vision Canada was born. Our first office was opened in Toronto in 1957. Since its establishment, World vision Canada has partnered with other International development agencies to address global issues which include hunger, health and child rights. The organization was established as part of the Christian world vision International partners that cuts across cultural, structures and legal …show more content…
The campaign ‘the 5 for five’ was carried on by supporters who urged the government to make child health and maternal care a top priority. The organization had carried out a research which indicated that most children under the age of five died from issues that could have been prevented. Such conditions included malnutrition, complication at birth and malaria. The supporters called upon the prime minister to make child and maternal health care a priority. Due to the campaign, recent statistics have indicated that more children are living to their fifth

The work that Caritas Australia does, mainly addresses the issue of poverty. They believe that poverty is a direct link to a lack of education in young children, as almost half the world lives on $2 a day. Caritas Australia set out to help fix this problem, by vowing to improve education for young children in third-world countries such as Samoa, Peru and Cambodia. One of their programs (Rural Development Program) aimed to increase teacher training in schools and emphasise the importance of ecological sustainability in schools. The result was that attendance went up (with 98% of children involved now attending school) and a drastic change in student results, from the 30th percentile to the 90th. Their work follows the teachings of the New Testament, including this passage: Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. (Romans 12:13). This quote relates to the work of caritas Australia as it explicitly states what they do. They believe that it is up to them to help eradicate the problem of poverty. They gather up donations from all around the world and use them to help those around the world, with the ultimate goal of breaking the poverty cycle and ensuring that every single citizen...
Within the first year of opening they had helped fifty-two girls see their greatness and help them strive for a better future.Mr. Don J. Brewster was the pastor for a catholic church in Sacramento,California. He went on his first trip to Cambodia in 2005, which was to see the missions his church has been supporting for years. Upon arrival to Svay Pak the only issue only seemed to be poverty, he played with the children, visited the pastors from the missions, and went back on his way home. The next day, after he arrived home, he turned on the news, and the headline story on NBC was “Children For ...
From that perspective, I will highlight the following programs that Save the Children does here in the United States alone. This organization have four main programs. First is health and nutrition, second is education, third is emergencies, and fourth is hunger and livelihoods. For health and nutrition, Save the Children is visiting schools, and other institutions giving lessons about balanced food and healthy food choices. In addition, education contributes 22% of their main programs. They have school-based literacy programs for disadvantaged students from kindergarten through 6th grade, specifically in reading, math, and science. They also provide tools and support schools in this advocacy. Another, in times of emergencies like natural disasters, Save the Children is visible. During the floods in the Gulf Coast region, they were there to give emergency assistance. The organization provide child-focused emergency plans, trainings, and emergency resources in preparation for coming disasters. Moreover, on the hunger and livelihoods aspect, the organization believes in not just giving fish, they also teach families how to fish. This in my opinion, is commendable. Not all organization have this advocacy. It promotes families to stand and support their families and not just depend on aids from private and public sectors.
I support position A, which is public health interventions are primarily responsible for improvements of child and mother health. Because the most interventions is related to public health and not medical care interventions, for instance, hygiene, sewage, good nutrition, education, changing behaviors such as quit smoking and so on have contributed to reduce infant mortality and maternal as mentioned in the article 4. We can notice that public health interventions through three levels of care. Primary interventions are before pregnancy such as check health of women if she has chronic or infectious diseases and advise women to change unhealthy behaviors such as avoid alcohol and tobacco. Secondary interventions are during pregnancy such as providing
...t us as a country need to commit to the change. Volunteering is a perfect way to end poverty, there are soup kitchens and food pantries all over Canada that need people to help out. Donating money, food and clothes to a local food bank or start a food drive in your community is also helpful to ending child poverty. Demonstrating leadership and creating groups of people who want to make a difference to end poverty is what we need in this world. In this group you can get everyone to bring in money once a week and then every month donate it to charities. As we discussed in the class, we can volunteer to tutor or help adolescents find jobs or teach them life skills and donate money to education and people who need money to go to school. Let’s improve this world one step at a time together and it will lead to create many chance of a successful future for poor children.
Families want children to support them when older. Children help growing societies and make a proud name for their families. However, the death rates are high due to natural disasters, the spread of diseases many in rural areas. Health issues like cancer, cirrhosis, liver damage can increase the death rates for many countries. The access to contaminated water or food also leads to the death of many civilians. Diseases spread rapidly in rural areas due to the lack of human life essentials and medical
This is a NGO (non-profit organization) as well as a non-sectarian organization that helps support ethical adoption policies as well as creates services. With this, they focus heavily on education to increase public understanding of adoptions. In hopes of this initial start-up, the program persistently works towards advocating that this will present a much more positive image/stigma towards adoptions and encourage individuals to view adoptions as a loving way to build nurturing, permanent

Child poverty is not only a major concern in Third World nations but also within our own nation of Canada. Poor children have fewer resources, choices, and opportunities, which can result in despair or even isolation from the greater society (Hughes 1995: 783). Though this is a major issue within Canada, sociology can help individuals to think critically about child poverty by understanding how family dynamics are an influencing force, as well as the lasting consequences that child poverty can have on an individual. It is then by understanding these forces, and how society as a whole influences child poverty, that child poverty can be solved through having a united definition, a plan with a clearly outlined allocation of resources, as well
Poverty extends out over all continents, making it the most widespread negative factor. Out of the world’s 2.2 billion children, approximately half live in poverty according to UNICEF. Poverty claims approximately 22,000 children’s lives per day. This statistic illustrates the struggle children that live in poverty must face in order to survive. Poverty is a root cause of hunger, disease, and lack of shelter. It is concentrated in pockets in areas such as South Africa and South Asia. Children, who must...
Becoming a social worker would be the greatest and rewarding achievement I could ever accomplish. The social work profession facilitates social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people. (Australian Association of Social Workers, 2016, para. 2).The area I’m interested to work in is Child Abuse and young people with disability because of personal experience. One of my major inspiration through her quote is (Mother Teresa 2001) “If you can 't feed a hundred people, then feed just one". I connect with this quote because I know I can never change the whole world but I can make a different in one-person life. After I completed year 12 of high school education I wasn’t sure is social work was for me. I decided to do a diploma of community service to get more idea of what social work do. Studying a diploma of community motivated me more to pursue a career as a social worker. This essay will reflect on my past experience and the things motivated me the most to become social work practitioner. This reflection will discuss the values, beliefs as social worker.
Poverty is prevalent throughout the world around us. We watch television and see famous people begging us to sponsor a child for only ten dollars a month. We think in our own minds that ten dollars is only pocket change, but to those children and their families, that ten dollars is a large portion of their annual income. We see images of starving children in far away countries, and our hearts go out to them. But we really do not know the implications of poverty, why it exists, or even what we can do to help combat this giant problem in our world.
The most important indicators of a community’s overall health are maternal, infant and child health. It deals with the health of women of childbearing age from pre-pregnancy, labor, delivery and the postpartum period and the health of the child prior to birth up the adolescence (McKenzie & Pinger, 2015, p.192). The health data that is collected towards maternal, infant and child health are used to see the effectiveness of disease prevention and health promotion services in a community. Prenatal health care is one of the fundamentals of a safe pregnancy. An infant’s health mostly depends on the mother. A child’s during the ages of one to nine are very important to the child’s development and the future (McKenzie & Pinger, 2015, p.217). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends vaccinating children against most vaccine-preventable diseases early in life. One of the community programs for Women, Infants and Children are maternal and child health bureau, which is in charge with the responsibility for promoting and improving the health of our nations mothers and children. Another is woman, infants and children program, which is a clinic-based program designed to provide a variety of nutritional health related goods and services to pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants up to
The majority of South Africans are unemployed and therefore can’t satisfy their needs and wants, and also their children’s needs and wants, thus more than half of South Africa’s children live in poverty.
