INTRODUCTION

Poverty is one of the greatest problems facing South Africa and it still remains very high. The following content will discuss Poverty. A brief overview of Poverty in South Africa will be discussed and the effects it has in South Africa. Education in South Africa will be discussed briefly, in terms of its issues. A description of how poverty influences the different business environments (micro, macro and market) of businesses in education will be discussed.

1 Poverty in South Africa
• Poverty is the condition of having little or no money or goods.
• Today, almost half of the South Africans are living below the poverty/bread line.
• Households living in poverty have sunk deeper into poverty and the gap between the poor and the rich has widened.
• Poverty an also be described as having a lack of income and/or goods to satisfy necessities-food, shelter, clothing, and acceptable levels of health and education.
• The majority of South Africans are unemployed and therefore can’t satisfy their needs and wants, and also their children’s needs and wants, thus more than half of South Africa’s children live in poverty.

1. Causes

• The main cause of poverty in South Africa is the lasting effects of apartheid. People didn’t get proper education and skills training during the apartheid era. As a result, most of them are unemployed because with the lack of proper education and skills, they can’t find jobs that will give them the means to a better life.
• Lack of access to goods and services, and acceptable levels of education and health care
• Lack of income and assets
• Vulnerability to harmful shocks, linked to the inability to deal with them

CONCLUSION

The results of this research showhow South Africa faces many challenges when it comes to poverty and education. Education is the most important industry in South Africa and it is being treated like a priority. Many social issues, for example poverty, have an influence on education and makes it and even bigger challenge. The businesses in the education industry have to deal with many challenges, caused by poverty. It is difficult to adapt and/or to deal with these challenges, especially in the macro environment because there is no control over the elements of the macro environment. However, these schools should consider the above solutions to these challenges as they could be helpful.
