With the crack of the bat and the roar of the cround The MLB season has ended. The season finished with the Houston Astros beating the Los Angeles Dodgers in the finals of the World Series. The World Series is a event where the best team from each league play each other. The first world series was on October 1st, 1903. There are two leagues. One is the American league and the other one is the National league. In fact, the reason the World Series exists is to allow the best team from each league to play each other in the finals. The team that has won the most World Series is the New York Yankees with 27, and The cardinals are in second with 11.

this year was the Houston Astros outfielder George Springer. Springer went 11-for-29 with three doubles, five homers and seven RBIs (Runs Batted In), becoming just the third player to hit five home runs in the finals of the World Series. This Award is named after Willie Mays. Another award is called the Cy Young award. This is given to the pitchers that do the best the whole season. Cy Young pitched from 1890 to 1911. This award is named after him because of how well he pitched over his whole career. This year the people who won this award are American League Corey Kluber and National league Max Scherzer. Kluber plays for the Cleveland Indians and Scherzer plays for the Washington Nationals. Also there is a Rookie of the Year award. This award is given to a person who is new in the league during their first season. Famous names like Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, and Derek Jeter have won this award. This year the award went to American league Aaron Judge and National league Cody Bellinger. They both had amazing seasons with Bellinger hitting 39 home runs, while Judge hit an outstanding 52 home runs! In a interview with Max Palmieri he said, “I think it is amazing how Judge is doing this as a rookie and I can’t wait to see what he will do next season. The MVPs of this year are American league Jose Altuve and National league Giancarlo Stanton. They both had amazing seasons. Stanton ended the season with 59 home runs and 132 Runs batted in and led his team to a 77-85 record. Altuve finished the season with a .346 batting average, 32 stolen bases and 23 home runs and led his team to a 101-61 record. The player of the year award is awarded to the person who did amazing through the whole season. This year, the winner for the Player of the Year is Jose Altuve, who has just won this award two years in a row. I interview Joe Palmieri on what he thinks of Altuve and this is what he said, “This shows that height doesn’t mean everything in baseball, what matters is how much you love the game of baseball. ” Altuve in an interview with the MLB Network broadcast says, "I'm just a guy who goes out there and tries to get better and help his team." He also said, "That's what I love about baseball. There's not a rule where you have to be six-foot tall or you have to weigh 200 pounds. If you love the game, you're going to be able to play in the big leagues." He knows this is true because he is only 5ft 6in because he is only 5 ft 6in! Other Players who have won this before are Ken Griffey Jr, Cal Ripken Jr, Joe Morgan, and Johnny Bench. Now that it is the offseason we are looking forward to seeing who will win these awards next year, and if Jose Altuve can win player of the year three years in a
row.
the award. This was a huge accomplishment for Dickey because no other knuckleball pitcher had been
Greg Maddux has received four Cy Young Awards in his thirteen-year career. The Cy Young Award is the award that is given to the best pitcher for the year. Nolan Ryan never received a single Cy Young Award. This is an especially hard accomplishment now. The recent years in baseball have been the biggest offensive years that the sport has ever seen. There has been more batters with 30, 40, or 50 homeruns than there has any other time in history. Greg Maddux has to face at least one thirty-homerun man every time he pitches and still has a career e.r.a. (earned run average) of 2.75. Ryan’s career e.r.a. is 3.19 and he did not have to face as many hitters that could hurt a pitcher.
In 1983, at the age of twenty-three, Cal lead the Orioles to a World Series victory. He always seemed the favorite every group would vote for as player of the year. There were two reasons. First was his outstanding performance on the field. Second was the way Cal handled himself off the field. He loves being a role model for children, so he tries to be the best person he can in order to set a good example.

Roger Clemens is arguably one of the greatest pitchers ever in Major League Baseball history. Clemens has built an astounding and exciting career filled with impressive statistics that may rarely be duplicated. His career extends from the early 1980’s into the new millennium, and continues today. During this stretch, nicknamed “The Rocket”, he won more Cy Young awards, seven, than any other pitcher in MLB history. The Cy Young award is given annually to the League’s best pitcher. In 2003 he won the 300th game of his career. He is only one of four MLB pitchers in all time to pass the 4,000 strikeout mark.
batting average and gets a hit almost every time he goes up to the plate. He is an all-star
In our society, many celebrities are selfish, but we do not take enough time to appreciate the ones that make great sacrifices in order to help the less fortunate. One person believed by many to be an inspiration on and off the baseball field is David Ortiz. David Ortiz should be given the title National Treasure because of his profound charity work and contributions to baseball. He has saved the lives of hundreds of children by giving them medical care they desperately need, and has revolutionized the role of the designated hitter in baseball.
Sammy Sosa won the 1998 National League MVP award. Bernie Williams was the 1998 American League batting champion. Ivan Rodriguez won the 1998 America League MVP award. Pedro Martinez was the 1999 Cy Young Award winner. Rafael Palmiero won the American League Gold Glove Award in 1999.
Which leads into my third and final premise, changing the date will be a large step towards reconciliation and act as a demonstration that we have aspirations to make our country better. Many people claim that changing the date will not change history. Of course they’re right because nothing can change history. If we were capable of doing so, I’d like to think we would have done it already. Changing the date of Australia Day will not reverse the suffering that the original custodians of this land were subjected to. Nor will it abolish the iron fist of racism that Australia seems to be gripped by.
Olympics fans are missing the fastest paced sport in the world. I think NASCAR should be one of the sports in the olympics. The following will help me get my point across: competitiveness, popularity, and that it is fast-paced.
Today I am taking a break from the series of articles I usually write, to bring you a subject I have thought about for a long time. I only started paying attention to wrestling in my teen years, so the "Attitude Era" was what I considered wrestling. I won't go into what made the era special, because that would be insulting to your intelligence, everyone knows what made the era successful, and why some fans still pine for it. Needless to say, it was "cool", it suited the times, and it broke the mold formed over the previous decades.
First, we will celebrate LeBron James’s accomplishments in the NBA. There are over 400 players in the NBA. These players are on the battlefield, fighting day after day because they all know only one can become the Most Valuable Player. LeBron James rose above all, claiming the MVP award, not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 times. Not only is LeBron James an MVP, but he is also a 13-time All-Star player. LeBron James garnered enough votes from the fans, the players, and the media to become an All-Star like a presidential candidate getting enough votes from the voters to become the President.
According to The Chicago Tribune “Close to 3,000 people have been shot in Chicago so far this year.”In 2016 chicago homicide rate was at an all time high, last year there have been reported 762 people died from gun violence,”3,550 shooting incidents, and 4,331 shooting victims.”Hundreds of people have died from gun violence every year and also a portion of the murder rate is made up of innocent people that have also died from a firearm violence. Also in the united states the number of fatalities from a firearm were “33,594” according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.I believe we should ban the use of firearms because the number of people that die or get injured from a firearm keeps dangerously increasing each year.
Over time, the importance of the All Star game has shifted greatly. It used to be played for the sole reason that fans could watch the best players in the league compete against each other on the same field. The outcome did not matter because the final score did not affect any team’s season. In 2003 there was a change to a rule in the All Star game. It was decided that the winning team, either the American League or the National League, would be granted home field advantage for the World Series.1 The new rule triggered a lot of controversy and it is still being debated to this day. There are some people that agree with the change and there are some people that disagree. The Major League Baseball season is 162 games long and I believe
Attention Getter: Mia Hamm. Peyton Manning. Steve Nash. Here are just a few great athletes that most of us have heard of. But what is it that makes us look up to them? What is it that makes them great? The truth is that sports are only a small part of what makes a person worthy of looking up to.
