1. Too many people in the world are without food. We need a solution to the global food-shortage problem. Try to reason through a solution to this problem without using language. Is it possible? Can an individual engage in complex reasoning without language? (Hint: I am using world hunger as an example of a complex problem. You don't need to research world hunger. What I am basically asking is....can you solve a problem like this without language?).

But, the concepts of all feelings and how we define them are based in language. Animals do not have language, but they are able to solve simple problems such as finding hidden food, and they are able to communicate with each other. However, such a complex and far reaching problem like world hunger requires much deeper thought, and as the book states, many ideas are impossible to express without using language.
Solving a problem as big as world hunger would require a lot of collaboration between people in order to share ideas too. This collaboration would definitely require communication through language in order to be successful. This happened when I went on a vacation to the Bahamas. I was trying to figure out which to go in order to reach a landmark. I thought the person we asked was a native of Nassau, but they were not. However, they had just been to what we were trying to find. In order to communicate, we relied on hand signals and the map I had. I pointed to what we were trying to find on the map, and they pointed the direction we needed to walk. This was not super difficult because I had a map, and they easily understood what I wanted to know. However, without the map, this communication would have been extremely hard, and I would have probably tried to find someone else to ask who spoke
