The Day My World Changed
The day my whole world changed began as a completely normal day. I had woken up, taken a shower, and was just beginning to lay back down to read a book. There was nothing to say just how memorable a day this would become no signs giving me any warning of what was going to come next.
It was just as I was beginning to lay down that I heard a knock at the door. Looking out the window I saw a sight that made my heart stand still. Parked outside my house were two police cars. As I ran out of the room the only thing racing faster than my heart was my mind. Why were the police here? Was it something I had done? Or one of my siblings? Looking back, I was still so blissfully ignorant at this point.

I hadn’t been mistaken. Up until this point I was still holding a small glimmer of hope that they weren’t here for us and maybe they were at the wrong house. As they sat us down and began to talk to us they explained why they were here. The longer they talked the number I became. How could this be happening? It had started out as such a normal day. My mom began to yell at the officers screaming that they could not take us, that she needed us just as much as we needed her.
It wasn’t until they began to walk me and my siblings out to the cars that reality really began to sink in. My little brother David, who was four years old at the time, had pushed a screen out of one of the downstairs windows and had commenced to climb out of it so that he could walk down to the park a few blocks away. Apparently someone at the park had seen him wandering around and had decided to call the police. Because of this my mom was being arrested and charged with child neglect. As for me and my siblings we were all being taken to a temporary shelter until my aunt could come pick us
A situation that would have had clear legal repercussions had these children been living a normal life. Not only was this situation scarring to Jeanette but her bother and sister watched as she was flung from the car and was left behind. Again, research shows that this type of trauma would be absolutely terrifying. Anyone who was witness to this would have suffered long-term side effects of the abuse and neglect.
I. Intro. - Imagine you are sitting home one night with nothing to do. Your parents have gone away for the weekend and there is absolutely no one around. So you sit around that night watching TV for awhile but find nothing on worth watching. You go on upstairs to your room and get ready for bed. Turn off the lights, lay down, and close your eyes. All of a sudden you here a crash of glass in your kitchen. You rush to your feet and put your ear to the door listening to what’s going on downstairs. You begin to hear the voice of two men as they start going through the living room, making their way to the stairs, right outside your room. What do you do? You aren’t going to confront them since its just you—remember you thought you heard two of them right? Well you are really stuck in your room and all you can do is sit there hoping that they leave soon and don’t harm you. Now if it were at my house things would be a little bit different. For starters I would get out my shotgun from my closet and begin to see what is gin on down stairs.
Everyone has had that one moment, or maybe a couple. The moment when their life changes forever, the moments when they know they will never be the same person they were yesterday. These moments are turning points that play a large role in a person’s identity.
Imagine this. You wake up. Blurriness swarms you. ‘What just happened?’ is all that races through your mind. Cold, crying, confused, cringing you feel nothing but everything all at once. March 3rd 2016, my life changed forever.
As I was driving down the road I saw red, and blue lights going off behind me, so I turn on my turn single and turned to the side of the street and parked my car. I saw the police officer getting out of his car and started to walks towards me, my hands were getting all sweaty and clammy, my stomach was in complete knots and I couldn’t figure out if I was going to vomit, or just pass out. I heard a knock on my window, and I rolled it down.
“Sit down” the cop said to my father, as my father sat down on the curb of the street. People surrounding the seen trying to figure out ( why?, who?, when?). I told myself this wasn’t happening that this was all dream, when i walked out to see my dad in handcuffs. I was really worried on what was about to happen but, more so my mom she was tearing
Throughout life we come across many people, some who influence us in negative ways, and those who influence in good ways, often changing our complete outlook on life. For me, it took the struggle of one of my best friends to open my eyes. I only wish it wasn't too late to thank her.
Nothing has changed my life more since the realization that I had to make who I was something that I chose, and not something that just happened. Since this revelation nothing seemed the same anymore, as though I could see the world through new eyes. It changed everything from my taste in music, literature, and movies. Things of a dark and pessimistic nature used to hold a strong allure for me, and yet I found much of things I once enjoyed didn't seem to entertain me anymore. I remembered the mental state that I once held and now seeing how I have changed, know that I can never return to the prison I came from.
There are many points in my life that, when I look back on them, I will have noticed a change that was made. Whether it is when I accepted the Jesus into my life, or experienced a drug for the first time. We shall all be that way. What I’m experiencing right now is real and tangible to me, but maybe I will look back on this time of my life someday and realize that this reality was just a step to another, and that reality another step, then another. What we are experiencing now will eventually be a memory.
Can you single out just one day from your past that you can honestly say changed your life forever? I know I can. It was a typical January day, with one exception; it was the day the Pope came to St. Louis. My brother and I had tickets to the youth rally, and we were both very excited. It was destined to be an awesome day- or so we thought. The glory and euphoria of the Papal visit quickly faded into a time of incredible pain and sorrow, a time from which I am still emerging.
Mom told me not to let you go and I did anyway. I always wonder how different your life would have been. I hope you can forgive me for that!” However, this is what he had to say about having any regrets from this experience. But, again, he was at no fault. Both of my parents emotions were running high at the time, who’s would not be? Any parent would be freaking out to an extreme level if their baby boy were in the hospital with his life under question. “My thoughts went from panic, is he hurt? How bad is it?” this was my father’s thinking while he sat in the waiting room. This describes his emotional state more than anything – worried, guilty, and frantic out of his mind. This was entirely acceptable, however – I feel like there would not be any other way to
I looked outside and saw my mom fall to her knees and cry as my grandma followed right behind her and did the same thing. I was as confused as to what was happening and where I was going but I looked at my sister and I grabbed her hand and said, “We are going to be ok”. We didn’t know where we were going, but we were soon to find out what it was like to be in the foster care system.
As the title of this paper states, “How our World is Changing” our world is constantly changing. Our world changes everyday without most of us ever seeing or noticing any changes, but as we look back in history we can see some tremendous changes. As history is studied these changes become apparent and truly jump out and become real.
Everyone has milestone days in his/her life that change the direction of his/her life for better or worse. Let me tell you one of my experiences that I will never forget from when I was 12 years old.
My mom and I arrived at my great aunt’s house in Ely, Nevada at around dinnertime. We both decided it was time to get some sleep due to our long drive. My mom had asked me to wake her up if my dad did not call or arrive by midnight. She was obviously very tired from driving and I had slept most of the way anyways. I could tell my mom was very worried about my dad because he was traveling on his Harley Davidson, and the roads were dangerous. My innocent ten-year-old mind did not think anything bad could happen,
