Drinking and Driving
As I was driving down the road I saw red, and blue lights going off behind me, so I turn on my turn single and turned to the side of the street and parked my car. I saw the police officer getting out of his car and started to walks towards me, my hands were getting all sweaty and clammy, my stomach was in complete knots and I couldn’t figure out if I was going to vomit, or just pass out. I heard a knock on my window, and I rolled it down.
“License and registration please.” He said. He goes back to his car with my license and registration all of my thoughts were going crazy and I didn’t know what to do but think “ What is happening?” I thought.
“ Do you know why I pulled you over?” the police officer asked.
“I have no idea officer. Why did you pull me over? “ I answered back to him with a smart mouth attitude.
“ You pasted a stop sign, then a stop light, and almost caused a car crash,” he said “ can you please step out of the vehicle.”
I stepped out of the vehicle and I fell to the ground and I felt

something come up and it was vomit I threw up all over his shoes and his pants.
the police officer helps me up and all of sudden he grabs my hands and wraps them behind my back and grabs his handcuffs, and put them both on my hands while saying:
“ You have the right to remain silent. If you do say anything, it can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have a lawyer present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you if you so desire.” People who drink and drive should be: going to jail for reckless driving, their license should be suspended, and there should be penalties for people who do this.

Getting behind the wheel is a privilege, it’s not suppose to be a humorous thing. Every time you step into a vehicle it’s another chance of you losing your own life, or someone else might lose theirs. Young drivers don’t understand that their parents are trusting them to drive themselves to work, school, anywhere. If you get caught drinking and driving the police have the right to use a BAC. If the BAC reaches or exceeds to 0.08 percent then they have the right to arrest you. Intoxication, is a huge deal if you’re behind the wheel and you’re driving yourself. “In 2009 United States caused 10,839 deaths,” (Gale). Just think to yourself, so many lives have died because others don’t understand the concept of drinking and driving. Young teens especially, your parents are trusting you behind the wheel to get to places. They are scared because you never know what’s going to happen. If a police officer pulls you over and you decided to make a fool out yourself they can arrest you, give you a DUI, and suspend your license. But in every way I think that they should just suspend the license till that person understands what they did is wrong. They could’ve killed someone, or even worse you could’ve lost your own life.

Reckless driving is probably the worse thing that a person can do while being drunk.

The fifty states setted a blood alcohol limit of 0.08 percent, many states have zero-tolerance laws that apply to new drivers and drivers you have been driving for years. Some people will go to court about this law because the limit is arbitrary and it does not take in ability to function with a BAC of 0.08 or more in his or hers system. Many heavy drinkers or what we call them today alcoholics, if they drink all the time and if you have your license be the responsible one and ask them for a ride home. Many drinkers reactions are really slow and their ability to control a vehicle is compromised. “Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is an organization to stop the reckless driving while intoxicated,” (Gale). Many teens and adults while coming home from drinking they have hard time with their driving skills such as steering, braking, and changing

lanes.

There’s a lot of penalties towards this situation. You can lose your license and you can go to prison. Drinking and driving can cause a lot of problems, if you are caught drinking and driving you can go to jail up to fives years in federal prison. “If a drunk driver causes an accident that results in serious bodily injury or death, he or she may be charged with vehicular homicide and will most likely be sentenced to a lengthy prison term,” (Gale). Sending someone to jail is not a dreadful thing, the police and the law are sending people like that to jail to because of the mistake they made. Once you make a mistake you can learn from it and not do it again. The prevention of this can stop, we can make it stop for the safety of young drivers and drivers that have been driving for many years. If the laws for drinking and driving can get more stricter for those who do it all the time then I think the people will realize that the United States are trying to not let innocent people die, from a car accident because others were too busy or brainless to notice that alcohol in their system can do bad things. Just remember that once you see someone drinking and driving ask them if you can take them home because you weren’t drinking, be the responsible one and help them before they make the worse mistake of their life.

The next morning as the police officer unhand cuffed me to go home I told him this:
“Thank you so much for pulling me over and making me realize that drinking and driving is not worth it. I could’ve lost my own life or killed someone. I really appreciate for what you do for this country.” I hugged the police officer and I left the police station, I made a mistake but I can learn from it.
