Being able to communicate can take you very far. Having the ability to communicate in your work place can be very effective. Good communication helps your work environment to soar. Everyone on your team will benefit tremendously if everyone has good communication. Having ineffective communication in the work environment can bring about a lot of issues. For example, miscommunication, lack of ideas, frustration and errors can take place due to not having good communication. Strategies for effective communication can consist of listening, body language and speaking to inform and motivate. Listening is key to effective communication. It is important to take the time to listen to your coworkers. A lot of times people will tune out when someone is speaking. After each point is made the speaker should pause and check that what is being said is understood. Body language contributes heavily to good communication. Being mindful of how you are communicating, not only with words, but your body language plays a huge part in how people perceive your communication. Words are only a small portion of the message that is being transmitted. Making eye contact ensures a listening ear with a smile and a head nod lets your audience know that you are paying them attention and this gives the person that is taking a sense of affirmation that you are listening. Being able to inform and motivate your audience is essential to effective communication. Explaining and illustrating your thoughts and ideas is significant in a leadership role. Communication is something we all humans use. Communication “is the sharing of information between individuals by using speech”. People have ways of communicating some have their weaknesses in conversations and others have their strengths. When I communicate with others I feel that some things I say I do not verbalize right. I have two strengths and three weaknesses in my communicating. My three weakens in my communication are, check nonverbal feedback, to make people wrong and recognize that people understand information in different ways and my two strengths in my communication are being flexible, and take responsibility for the communication.

I work at Geneva Ace Hardware. My most important job, among my many duties, is to help customers. Usually everything goes ok, but there are always a few customers that can be hard to deal with. I’ve had to deal with Mexicans who can barely speak English. I’ve had to deal with Mexicans who use their 5 year old children/grandchildren as translators. I once had to deal with a Canadian couple whose accent was so rich; I would have about a 30 second delayed response to try to convert their English into my English. Then there are the people who just won’t accept my help because I’m only a kid. None of these people compare to the dude that was deaf.
