Before you even start lifting weights, strength and conditioning coaches would advocate for players to do a dynamic warm ups instead of static stretches. Dynamic warm ups are series of sports specific movement preparing the body for maximum exertion of a workout allowing your joints and muscles to be limber as possible, while static stretching wants you to stretch out as far as you can and hold it for 15 seconds which is advocated at the end of each workout allowing the body to cool down. The reason why static stretching is advocated after your workout is because your muscles are already warmed up which allows your muscles and joints to stretch as far as possible without tearing. An example of a dynamic warm up and a static stretch is to take two rubber bands and stick one in the freezer; the rubber band in the freezer represents a static stretch and the other rubber band represents a dynamic warm up. When you take the rubber band out of the freezer and try to stretch it as far as possible it will break instantly because it is cold but the other rubber band which is warm would be super springy because it’s warm enough allowing you to keep stretching but return back to its normal state without tearing
Moreover, this study reflected recommendations to improve the health of the student-athletes. In addition, the limitations that this study displayed over the athletic training services were mostly related with the lack of staff, and the medical budget offered by the high school. Even that not having athletic trainers represent a liability issue for the school and the school district; based on the data obtained, the study stated that some schools just provided “expenditures levels as low as 10 dollars per athlete” (Valovich McLeod, et al.,
Are young athletes being pushed too far to always perform at higher and higher expectations? Taking vitamins are highly recommended by doctors, but there are some supplements that are illegal for use in high school sports. New pre-workout supplements cause new high school drug policies, research into both the active ingredients and short/long term effects of these products. These pre-workouts are this generation’s steroids and can have side effects that are just as dangerous. Their purpose is to provide you with a burst of quick and long lasting energy, increased blood flow, muscle growth, and faster recovery periods. Their popularity is growing faster than the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) can research them and provide more information on what these products truly do to your body, such as whether they are actually safe for young adult athletes to use.
In the beginning of inter-collegiate competition and even now the governing body the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) wanted athletes to maintain their amateurism. Being an amateur means, to remain unpaid why competing and performing a c. Athletes were to come from the student body and off-campus recruitment of athletes was prohibited. The problem with the many rules and regulations of the NCAA early on was that they expected schools to police themselves and uphold a certain amount of morality, but without checks and balances corruption was sure to take place and did so. From the late 1920’s and into the 1940’s big-time athletes would be “sponsored” by alumni in order to get them to play for that schools team. The alumni would usually just pay the tuition for the athlete and usually it was seen as a loan but rarely got paid back.

The effectiveness of the coaching method depends completely on the coach, his personality, and the needs of the student-athletes. Each program and institution is unique and has different institutional goals and objectives that attract different student-athletes compared to other colleges or universities (Koivula, Hassmen, Fallby, 2002).

UNC Women’s soccer was given it’s offical team in 1977. It began as a club, established for students looking for a higher level of play. After petitioning to take the team to a varsity level, Anson Dorrance, the male team’s coach at the time, helped take them there. He was impressed by the team, and recommended the school create a women’s soccer team. The team was created, and Dorrance was made the head coach. The team started off slow, playing with a club schedule against high school teams. In 1979, the Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women established a national women’s soccer program. Because the UNC team was the only women’s soccer team in the south east, there was the opportunity to recruit the best players without competition. Dorrance proceeded to recruit the most talented freshmen he could find for the team. Eight of those recruits led the team to win their first, and only, AWIW Championship. Since then, the team has been the NCAA
