Witness, this is a book that takes place in (around) the early 20th century. A book showing the true hardship, earning back equal rights after the slavery period. As a young african girl named Leanora Sutter, learns the the struggles of being discriminated. Going through rough times as she is left with her dad to be a single parent, due to her recent mother’s passing. Just as things couldn’t seem to get any worse. The Klu Klux Klan is making a huge rush spreading across towns, angry and searching for revenge by taking over small towns and because of their white supremacy mindset. Fortunately, for Merlin and majority of the town and himself. He wanted to keep Mr. Alexander’s trust. Because due to his past criminal record people looked down on him but Mr. Alexander had given him sets of keys and had faith that he would make improvements in his decisions from past lessons. I think this was an important moral of the story because it shows a sense of loyalty even when he was bribed with things that could help him financially instead of tending to greed he stayed to his loyalty. I think another important part of the story was when. Leanora saved Esther even after them not being friends, Leanora still went and ran across the train tracks to save her before she got hit by the train while trying to go to heaven with her mother. They both suffered a similar pain of loss in mothers, which was a truly heartwarming moment when they both realized they are all human and skin should be no categorizing by ethnicity. The Klan had made many threats along the way to many people to gain power but there were few courageous people who stood up to them, because it’s what’s about what is on the inside many were drawn to the rewards of being on their side but in the end by coming together to fight for equal rights for
