Proverbs 1:20-33 is a climactic telling of what happens to those who do not fear the Lord and seek knowledge as said in Proverbs 1:7. Wisdom is not just talked about in the first chapter, but found throughout the book of Proverbs. Throughout there is also a common theme about what will happen to those who do not choose wisdom. This pericope is basically a set up for the rest of the book in regards to what happens to those who do not choose wisdom. Wisdom is also personified as a woman. Woman wisdom will seek after those who are simple and hate knowledge with patience for only so long; once she has had enough she will present to them one last option that is severe in hopes that they will change their ways. Maybe she has been trying for a long time to get the people to listen to her, and since she seems to be targeting those who do not fear the Lord it is taking a while to get a response. It also seems interesting that there are three different types of people mentioned here, and they are not all lumped into one category of those who do not seek wisdom. Perhaps woman wisdom wanted to be specific so that those who were guilty could not say she did not address them. In the African Bible Commentary it says, “The people addressed are described as simple ones and mockers and fools, a group of words used in the book of Proverbs to depict ‘the fools’ who stand at the opposite pole to ‘the wise’.” According to Carla Keyes, woman wisdom is acting in the same way as the prophets did during the exile. is an almost word for word repeat of what woman wisdom said in verse 25, that they would not listen to her wisdom despise her reproof. The second part of the verse is where it is different, “They shall eat the fruit of their ways and be sated with their own devices” (v. 30b). Christine Yoder says, “Her use of the image of eating and being sated by the fruit of their dispositions and plans conveys an act-consequence worldview. That is, a person experiences the effect of their actions and choices. They reap what they sow.” In this case, woman wisdom is just saying that the audience is going have what they have chosen for their life. Since they did not chose to fear the Lord they are not going to be able to rely on Him when they need him. It can be gathered as well, that maybe them being sated in their ways and eating their own fruit will just be a life of what verse 26 says, a life that is filled with calamity, anguish and stress. Verses 25-26 verses 29-30 are closely related thematically. Verse 32 is their final fate. This is what will happen to those who do not change their ways and fear the Lord. Ultimately they are going to die after they suffer for their entire life. “32 For the waywardness kills the simple, the complacency of fools destroys them;” (Proverbs 1:32, NRSV). “Her words contain an echo of the theme verse when she describes their misguided lifestyle: ‘They hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the Lord’” (v.29). These two passages rely on the retelling of stories from the Bible – the story of the Fall from Grace in the Garden of Eden in the Old Testament and the story of Jesus’ feeding of the hungry with an endless supply of loaves and fishes in the New Testament. In these passages of Beloved, Morrison relocates the reader to the true beginning of the story, the day that Sethe tries to kill her children. In addition, the passage alludes to the eating of the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden and the overindulgence is analogous to the parable of the Loaves and Fishes.

Another line in verse two is “Bitterness keeps you from flying” which metaphorically is suggesting that being bitter will prevent people from succeeding in life. In the opening stanza, the speaker describes the human craving and longing for material objects. From the very first word of "Meditation 42," a sense of longing and desire infuses the poem as "apples" (ll. 1) often symbolize both temptation and desire. Because Eve allowed the lure of attaining the God's knowledge to overtake her in the book of Genesis, she bites from a fruit on the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil which is commonly depicted as an apple. In addition, because the "apples" allude to man's fall from paradise they thereby represent man's imperfection and sinful nature. Furthermore, the fact that "apples of gold in silver pictures shrined" (ll. 1) emphasizes the desire or lust for physical, material items of beauty and wealth. These items "enchant" (ll. 2) as the "gold" and "silver" appeal to mankind's covetous nature and tendency to value superficial items. Thus, the speaker conveys his longing and desire for physical riches which "enchant" him. Yet his want for treasures exist as strictly human desire, causing physical consequences as they "make mouths to water" (ll. 2).

Change is difficult and uncomfortable. Those who have the knowledge to see injustice, and are able to step out of their comfort zone, ultimately attempting change that can benefit the society at large. When one considers that change is difficult, it is often easy to think that without wisdom one would not have to change. The happiness experienced from ignorance creates a simpler, easier way to live that does not involve irritating and painful change. Often it can be hard to pick between ignorance and knowledge. One must decide if they would be better thinking life is good, completely blinded from the truth, or if life would be better if they had the knowledge to face change, even if changing may be difficult.
The theological aspects that arise in the excerpt are original sin, grace, atonement, and the resurrection of Christ. Lines 203 through 209 speak about man’s wrong doing to God. “But yet all is not done; Man disobeying, Disloyal breaks his fealty, and sins Against the high Supremacy of Heav’n,…” Milton puts emphasis on the fact that all men must die “He with his whole posterity must die.” These lines introduce the concept of original sin in the excerpt. The doctrine of original sin is that because of Adam’s fall in the garden and their disobedience to God in eating the forbidden fruit, men are held accountable for their sin because of Adam’s disobedience men take on a sin nature.
An instructive and stirring string of verses, this passage from the Bible holds great relevance not only for the Ancient Israelites to whom it was spoken, but also acts as a herald to Christians today. This passage forms part of Moses great oration; his instructive teaching, advice and counsel narrated to the second generation of Israelites who required redirection before moving forward into what God had for them. Similarly, it is also relevant for all Christians as we remember what our faithful, loving and powerful God has done in the past, and what he requires of us to move forward.

Wisdom is something that is very hard to judge because something that might be right to someone might not be right to another person. With that being said wisdom can be a confusing issue. The common misconception of wisdom is that old people can only be wise, which in most cases is true but young people also can be wise or act wisely
With these interpretations of God’s words, society as a whole has held women back. This is caused by the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge and because Eve gave Adam the fruit, women have been held in responsibility for all of man’s mistakes. It also forced God to punish mankind with an ending life. This confirms why women have been discriminated on by men throughout time in religious scripture.
What does it mean to be wise? Webster's Dictionary defines the word "wise" as being "marked by deep understanding, keen discerment". Through the telling of the ancient Mariner's tale, the Wedding-Guest became sadder and wiser. He became sad in that he identified himself with the shallow and self-absorbed mariner. However, the mariner changed his ways. The Wedding-Guest became wise through realizing that he himself needed to alter his ways.
