The American Voice My paper is about my opinion and what I’m interested in my history . It’s about tragic stories that caught my eye and of course “Give me liberty or give me death” that we were all interested in as a class. What I did to complete my research was i read over and over of the articles that i picked i also analyzed my stories and highlighted interesting facts and added a piece of my mind of how i feel about the story which was pretty intense. Being an american defines a lot of things being an american gives a lot of opportunities , being american gives you choices ,and being american gives you the right to speak and others agree. For example one article i picked was “The right to Fail” was amazing and it's a great example …show more content…
there's a quote i'd like to point out from the story it says “The American Dream is a Dream of getting ahead” which means we as students will fail but when we fail we get up twice as better as before and that’s called “Motivation” which helps us students to our dream. What i picked up in the story was people use dropout or fail in a dirty way and i agree dropout and fail is the same definition as the reason to get back up.And in the end it all raps up to it”s okay to fail sometimes …show more content…
There's a line from his speech i wanna share it says “I say Tonight we have more work to do and more work for those who are losing their jobs and! help for those who need drugs for their children who strongly need it.” I love that line because he show that he cares as much as us Americans do he’s willing not only to sit behind a desk but also! to get his hands dirty and help us physically and emotionally he gave a great history speech about his parents and it caught me by surprise was he was not an American he became U.S citizen when he was a toddler and finished school was also a big step in my opinion i like that he used education as a boost to his
Everyone strives to be the greatest, especially teenagers in school, failing can be upsetting when it comes to failing a class or grade. Failure in school can have a huge impact on a student's future. When students aim for a goal it's either accurate or precise depending on their mindset.
He graduated top of his class and the speech was a chance to showcase his potential
of patriotism in his speech. He wants America to be proud even in the face of
Primarily he starts out his address by speaking directly to his audience, the American people. He states: “We know we share this pain with all of the people of our country. This is truly a national loss.” By doing so he establishes who his intended audience is, which is very important in a speech like this. It helps the audience feel a greater connection to the speaker since he is addressing them directly and relating to them.
The outcome of the twenty five percent graduation rate is clear to all that live in the neighborhood. In his book, Kozol quotes a reporter asking a sixteen-year-old dropout about how much she would like to ...
It was a brief speech that captivated a lot of matters that concern the American citizens exclusively and the world inclusively. He divided his speech into different sectors which are citizens’ sacrifice, the idea of service, adopting changes, promise of wealth, government harmony and dignity. The language used in the speech was flawless and applicable to the audience, who was the public, since he was using every day vocabulary. Therefore, the speech has a strong structure that can be easily understood by the majority of people. The audience typically will and was the American citizens, but since the United States has many international relationships, President Obama was trying to reach beyond the nationwide concerns and meet a mutual background....
Students encounter many complications during their school career. Some students are smart, but just don’t apply themselves, or have similar hardships that are going on in their lives. These can be fixed if one can find motivation and confidence. In the story “Zero,” Paul Logan coasts through high school and college. Logan doesn’t know the tools to succeed in school, which causes his grades to fall. In the story “The Jacket,” Gary Soto explains how the way one dresses can influences how they feel about themself. Which in this case he gets an ugly jacket; which causes him to be depressed and his grades to fall. Albeit Logan and Soto went through similar hardships, they both succeed with motivation and confidence.
In the essay “ The Right to Fail” by William K. Zinsser , is about people been judged when failing.Zinsser stated “ a boy or girl who leaves college is branded a failure and the right to fail is one of the few freedoms that this country does not grant citizens.” When you fail trying to reach your goal , society labels you as a failure as an unarchiver. Also in “The Right to Fail”by William K. Zinsser, he says ‘ happiness goes to the man who has the sweet smell of achievement he is our national idol and everybody else is our national fink.” Many Americans get knocked down if they don't have a degree ,a big house or a lot of money. With the other Americans who are “our national finks”, they are trying to pursue there

Throughout the years the dropout rate of African Americans has increased and decreased. Many people look at black students as if they sit there and do not learn anything at all but we do try. Some may think that the only reason the black students drop out is because their grades, but that’s not true. Some dropout because of financial pressure, health problems, mental, emotional, and social issues, and may not have family support.
The documentary “Dropout Nation” shows how difficult it is for students who live in poorer communities to receive a good education and graduate high school. Students and teachers are interviewed in this documentary to show that these students are intelligent but are not able to graduate due to their circumstances. These examples help explain the concepts learned in chapter 10 about social institutions and how it is affected by politics, education, and religion.
However, such accusations such as laziness and entitlement, although common, have been prevalent amongst those of college age as proven in “A’s for Everyone.” Shepard had investigated the cause behind this and had put the blame on grade inflation in the years prior to entering college, the pressure to get superb grades due to high tuition costs, and most importantly the belief that “effort” constitutes a grade bonus. However, if one has entered the school system in America, one could see the relative ease in which one could improve their grades through inordinate amounts of extra credit. Multiple students have heard and even seen fellow students ask their parents to even come in for meetings of which equate to blaming their child’s poor grades on the teacher and harassing said teacher to allow their child, soon to be a hardworking, productive citizen of society, to get the “grade they
Sherry uses some valid points to address her claim, but she could use more than just one example to show readers how the “F” word could be used in the classroom. The author does get the point across that many graduates or dropouts do not have the basic skills to get through life, because they have been “cheated by our educational system” and she wants to do something about it (1). Sherry shows that without a proper education, some students are not prepared to enter the workforce or cannot comprehend reading or writing. Education is a very important in life and it is crucial students pass and earn their diploma when graduate. To get students to stay focused and determined, Sherry argues that the “F”, meaning failure will get these high school seniors motivated, work harder, and put education first. The “F” word is a “policy that worked in the past and can work today” (2). This is very effective, because if teachers would keep enforcing failure to their students and pushing them to do better, then many students will have a better understanding of skills needed to succeed. Although Sherry does make a good argument about education and failure, she could of mentioned more real-life examples to show readers how effective the “F” word could be, Sherry did mention that her son’s teacher used the failure card on him and it worked, but what about other kids who are not hers. How will readers know if the failure card works on some students? Many students get distracted and the “F” word doesn’t work or it does but does not always work. Sherry could of explained those type of situations and give readers a better understanding. Overall, Sherry gives good details to back up her
The speech was mainly focused on the upcoming challenges and encouraging the public to share in building the United States. He established a strong feeling of honor of being American through telling short stories about troubles that the United States managed to overcome. His language was specific and served the pathos appeal. For instance, using "thriving" and "suffering" as two opposite words to describe the last financial crisis.
