No Uniforms James fast steeped as he was going to his bus stop, he tried to look normal but also tried to avoid bullies that came to the bus stop, every morning when his bus arrives. He had a green plaid vest, white dress shirt with a red tie. That’s all he could wear all day every day, he went to a strict, and very limited school. As he arrived to the bus he was a second too late and the bullies came around the corner and made fun of his uniform and threw eggs at him as he scurried to the bus. Lots of schools require uniform, and I don’t think my school or any other schools should wear uniform. Schools shouldn’t wear uniform because uniforms are too expensive, you can’t prevent bullying, and can’t prevent theft/robbery. Schools shouldn’t …show more content…
Why you can’t prevent bullying is because bullies always get smarter and find out a way to get in touch with other students and bully them in or out of school. According to Tony Volk he says “Tony Volk an associate professor of Brock University researcher who has done extensive research on bullying, he said Niagara school board proposal to introduce uniforms, in its elementary school will not have an impact on bullying as the board suggest” (uniforms won’t stop bullies). Since uniforms don’t improve a student’s behavior schools should not wear uniform. It also doesn’t solve the problems about bullying because, it’s always around. Also, in the article Tony Volk also says “There is no evidence in bullying literature that supports reduction in bullying due to school uniforms” (uniforms won’t stop school bullies, experts say). Since you can’t prevent bullying then why wear uniform? And even with uniforms bullies still exist in schools and they’ll continue to bully them and could bring up things in the past to bully them if they …show more content…
This is a good theory but it’s not all that true, even with uniforms robberies would still happen because of lunch money, pass sheets, and other items. According to Our Family word it states “we were allowed to wear green tights under our skirts in the winter. K-Mart was the only place I could find them. When I came to school with my tights on, another girl asked where I got them. When I told her she laughed at me and said she would wait until more upscale started selling them” (“Do Public School Uniforms Really Prevent Bullying?").So why have uniforms when it doesn’t prevent robberies. They shouldn’t wear uniforms at all for such reasons when problems will still happen even if they switch to
... students in various ways, such as to learn how to ‘cooperate’ with their friends and work out the problem.” (Mr. Knight). Uniforms are not just for schools it's also for jobs or teams you play on, so you just have to sit down and think about how school uniforms can change and the rest of your priors for the good or better, uniforms can make your school a safe place, bully and gang violence free zone. Even the statistics show schools that have uniforms have a decrease bullying, gang violence and other crimes. Putnam City Schools should adopt school uniforms next year.
Ever wonder what it would look like to have all students wearing the same white polo shirt, black pants, and a district sweater walking in the hallway? Nowadays, public school and many districts are discussing the possibilities of enforcing the uniform policy. In most places, many private schools already require students to have their mandatory uniforms; however, there are only a few public schools adopting this mandatory school-uniform polices as one of their enrollment requirements. The reason why not all public schools participated was because people believe that they are violating the freedom of choice when enforcing this mandatory uniform policy; yet problems such as bullying and segregation, emerged in these schools. Some people still think uniforms have no benefits at all. However, all public school students should be required to wear uniforms because it would improve the academic performance, reduce the violent behaviors based on appearance judgment, and provide less stress for both parents and students.
Did you know that Americans spend around one billion dollars per year on school uniforms? At the beginning of every school year, families shop for weeks and weeks to find specific clothes that fit into a school’s strict uniform dress code. School uniforms should not be required in schools because they take away from the student’s freedom of expression, do not lower disciplinary problems, and do not prevent bullying based on economic status. Dress codes often have more of a negative impact than a positive impact when it comes to students being able to learn. Many people say that being in free dress is a distraction, when in reality, uniforms are more of a distraction.
Students should not be required to wear school uniforms because school uniforms cost more than regular clothes. School uniforms are very expensive for parents and are only available at the beginning of the school year. If the students grow during the year, then they will have to order the uniforms online. If parents buy them from a resale shop or wear hand me downs, they are usually worn, torn, stained, faded, or have holes. This will still lead to bullying. Even though
There you are standing in your school uniform, waiting for your bus. You feel anxious because the uniform doesn’t fit like it’s supposed to. The shirt (even when it’s tucked in,) is way too loose on you making it seem like you were skinny as a tree but, you weren’t. The only thing that was tight were your pants/skirt, it was so tight that you could barely move at all. Hasn’t everyone felt this way numerous amounts of time when wearing school uniforms? The fabric sometimes irritating your skin taking your attention off of school work. Sometimes, when you wear school uniforms don’t you feel nervous that someone is going to say something mean about your uniform? Most, people are bullied because of school uniforms and how they fit on them. Schools shouldn’t have school uniforms because they make you feel self-conscious and it increases the causes of bullying.
Having a school uniform provides safety for the students attending the school. Bullying does not take place because all students are wearing the same clothing. On student cannot judge another student for not wearing trendy clothing. According to Mariam Wilde in the article “Do uniforms make schools better?” he states, “School uniforms can diminish economic and social barriers between students” (Wilde 1). A poor student with low income has the same position in school as a wealthy student. This example can also prevent peer pressure. No one has to buy trendy clothes they cannot afford. Brooklyn College Academy maintaining a school uniform can inhibit bullying from occurring. Another example of students being safe while wearing school uniforms is if in intruder entered the school. According to Lindsay Lowe from the article “School Uniforms on the Rise” she states, “With children wearing uniforms, campus security officers can easily identify anyone who doesn’t belong” (Lowe 1). If there ever was a trespasser in the school, he/she would be recognized easily because they are not wearing the school’s unif...
Too often kids of all ages are bullied because of what they are wearing or what they can not afford to wear, requiring uniforms reduces this issue, tremendously. Dr. Reginald Wilson, senior scholar at the American Council of Education in Washington, D.C., told Jet that, “Uniforms would help discourage violence because students will not have a need to fight over who looks better or want to cause harm in an attempt to take another student 's trendy clothes” (1). No matter how much money a student has or how little money one has, everyone would be wearing the same thing. If everyone wore uniforms and no one was put to a higher standard, then no child would get jealous of the other and want to fight/steal something from another. School uniforms keep kids focused on what the teacher is saying or, more importantly, what the have to do to graduate rather than what cute shirt Susie has on today. Although uniforms reduce crime and bullying in school it does not eliminate it all together. An opponent of the Philadelphia Plan said, “The social and economic factors that contribute to gang activity need to be addressed directly, and that failing students need extra tutoring--not a change of clothes” (Kizis 2). Changing a student’s appearance is not going to change their habits. Bullying, crime, and failure rates may go down, but they are not going to go away just
(“Quotes about Uniform Policy” 1). Theodore R. Mitchell, UCLA School of Education says, "I think its great news for all of us who have advocated school uniforms as a way of building community.” A pressing issue, bullying has become a big problem in many school, and to eliminate this problem, school policies should require students to wear uniforms. Many people believe that school uniforms build the community into a safer, more positive environment. School uniforms improve school academics, prevent gang violence, and assist families, who can not afford expensive clothing.
School uniforms are a boiling conversation point these days. There are so many well-built points of view about what route parents, students, and superintendents wish to go in. It has been disputed that school uniforms have the potential to make a school safer, that uniforms reduce harassment or self-esteem issues, and that uniforms return the focus to the students' learning. I disagree. I, in fact think that school uniforms do not help make our schools a more secure place, I think that they do not revisit the center of attention to student's education - they just shifted where the attention was previous, and that they won’t help cut down on harassment or self- esteem issues in school.
Christian Fizur 12/04/2015 Writing Comp I Professor Beaman High School Uniforms Schools today are having a debate on whether school uniforms should become mandatory or have the students have their own free will to wear what they like as long it doesn't mess with the schools regulations and rules. Some of the many issues that occur due to not having a proper dress code are bullying, cost of uniforms/more affordable then branded clothes and how uniforms could change the student's education. School uniforms should be addressed at schools to help get rid of bullying. Students get bullied for not wearing brand clothing. Just because the students aren't wearing the newest fashion they get bullied for off branded clothes.
The potential benefits of school uniforms include decreasing violence and threat. Some instances involving designer clothing and expensive shoes have led to life-threating situations among students. Hannah Boyd says, “Now that kids are getting mugged for their designer clothes and expensive sneakers, school uniforms seem a safer alternative to many.” "It's tragic when young people without a balanced upbringing, without grounded values, without a secure education, wind up believing that it's all right to kill somebody for a pair of sneakers or jewelry or a designer jacket," Mr. Clinton said, citing recent incidents of violence by teen-agers. With school uniforms students won’t be getting mugged for their designer clothes and expensive sneakers because everyone’s wearing the same thing and won’t get jealous of what others have. Uniforms help rid of the bullies that want to beat someone up because they dress a certain way or because they don’t have what other people have. With uniform policies kids can’t get beat up or made fun of because of what they wear and the uniforms help build that confidence that kids who get beat up lack. ...
Having uniforms in our school can lead to bullying, being equal. Bulling is a huge problem in schools, whether its dress codes or not. Without uniforms people can judge you, can they judge you with a uniform? some people may think uniforms can be used as a shield. the definition of shield is "to protect something or someone from
Bullies frequently choose to pick on an individual based on what they wear, and as many students already have a tough time at school, they don’t need bullies to make it even worse. Imagine what would happen if they were all dressed alike? In my opinion, the use of school uniform would provide a more bully-free environment causing them to have one less reason to get picked on.
However, the schools that do require uniforms often have less bullying reports than schools that don’t require uniforms. Many say that schools should require uniforms t reduce judgment based on how much money a child’s parent/guardian has. I once visited a school for a week that required uniform. On the Friday I was there, they had a no-uniform day where the children dressed how they like. You couldn’t tell who was poor and who wasn’t until that day. Therefore, I believe that schools should require school uniforms to reduce judgment and bullying and make school a safer, better place for kids.”
An article in the Wall Street Journal reports that students are still being ridiculed for wearing the wrong clothes, and in fact, fashion-related bullying appears to be on the rise, according to Dorothy Espelage, a psychology professor at the University of Illinois. This evidence contradicts the opposing team's argument. Additionally, the opposing team claimed that they have never seen bullying based on brands in our school, but this assertion is easily refuted since we wear school uniforms at SIS. Therefore, it is evident that bullying based on clothing, including brands and inexpensive clothing, is still prevalent and increasing in frequency. As bullying is detrimental to a student's well-being, it is crucial to prevent it and promote healthy development by implementing school uniforms globally, particularly in Hong Kong.
