School uniforms and our 2016 fashion show are two different things. School is not a Victory's Secret fashion show, we come here to learn. Girls are wearing to low of shirts, boys are wearing to low of jeans to were its inappropriate. Not very many schools let there students were uniforms, a lot of school lets us were whatever we want to a reasonable dress code. Its either to inappropriate or we cant express ourselves. Having uniforms in our school can lead to bullying, being equal. Bulling is a huge problem in schools, whether its dress codes or not. Without uniforms people can judge you, can they judge you with a uniform? some people may think uniforms can be used as a shield. the definition of shield is "to protect something or someone from …show more content…
body odor, weight. it all still comes back to wearing the same uniform and wearing clothes wont make a difference. Bullying can also involve being equal to each other. being equal to someone is very important in Junior high and High School. it has a lot to do with popularity. if we wear uniforms will it change? the answer is no. people are still going to want to be like the "cool" kids. that is what society did to us. being different isn't a bad thing. wearing the same uniform every day get boring, if you want uniforms wear the same outfit everyday. we don't have to be equal to each other. everyone says stand out, be different, make a change. uniforms wont let us be who we really are. slideshare.com has a sentence saying "in conclusion, uniforms are not only help students be distant from other people, to be more beautiful, but also make them equal to other students." this is someone who agrees to wear uniforms in school. I agree that we shouldn't have to look different to focus on our education. we should focus on our education and our school behavior no matter …show more content…
a dress code policy is what kind of clothes you cant wear to school. a uniform policy is what clothes you can wear to school, which is your uniform. schools like to think that walking into to school improves the discipline and academic gains. however when you listen to the students that are wearing uniforms they say it don't change anything. in 2010 there was a study that showed the students behavior. the study was amazing because there was hardly and bad behavior but this was in elementary school high school and junior high show to have a lot more bad behavior. conversation.com says "research on the effects of school uniforms on student behavior, discipline, connection, attendance, and academic gain is best mixed." they don't know whats best for our schools. maybe some people can change having one uniform on and having only that uniform, or maybe they cant. students have different emotions that we cant control. they have different thoughts about what we wear to school. my opinion about school uniforms is we shouldn't have them. I think there come to a point were other inappropriate clothes in school aren't allowed, but that doesn't mean you have to put us in
... students in various ways, such as to learn how to ‘cooperate’ with their friends and work out the problem.” (Mr. Knight). Uniforms are not just for schools it's also for jobs or teams you play on, so you just have to sit down and think about how school uniforms can change and the rest of your priors for the good or better, uniforms can make your school a safe place, bully and gang violence free zone. Even the statistics show schools that have uniforms have a decrease bullying, gang violence and other crimes. Putnam City Schools should adopt school uniforms next year.
Doing research I have found out that the university of Missouri assistant professor, David Brunsma said that he conducted a survey. In that survey it showed that bringing in uniforms made academics worse in schools. David tested the school with uniforms for half a year and the results said that students did better without uniforms. However this survey was only conducted in one school. In 39 other schools in Ohio they say that they had better attendance and graduation rates. Uniforms are already taking place in twenty different states and most of them have good opinions.
School uniforms have always been a topic of interest for me since fifth grade when my school merged with another and I had the possibility of adopting their uniform policies. Up until researching this topic I have always thought uniforms were a terrible idea because they were just ugly and looked uncomfortable. So with my argument paper of course I wrote about how uniforms are a bad idea. After reviewing all of my research I did in order to write this paper I came to the conclusion that uniforms actually make so much sense to me now. This could be because I am lazy and like that I wouldn’t have to make any decisions. I have also encountered many peers who do wear uniforms and after hearing their opinions and tolerance for them I began to wish I was exposed to that growing up. So I have done full research into both sides, while switching sides a few times as I created a solid outline. Currently I feel that uniforms offer a safe and united community that encourages the individual and self growth.
“The Manual on School Uniforms”, printed and issued by the United States Department of Education, noted that Long Beach, California, reported a decrease in crime, fights, sex offenses, weapons offenses, and vandalism after they adopted their uniform policy (4). Contrary to government findings, The National Educational Longitudinal Study of 1988 discovered that school uniforms have had no real effects on behavior, drug abuse or attendance; furthermore they also came to find that uniforms actually have negative effects on the academic achievement of the students (Brunsma and Rockquemore 54). If school A is emphasizing that school uniforms are conducive to the learning environment, yet school B down the road has higher testing scores but no uniform policy, then their stand is no longer valid. This proves that uniforms have no effect on the learning process.
Many parents believe that uniforms will only stifle the students creativity. They will not be allowed to freely express themselves with the colors that they wear as well as the clothing itself. If a child is feeling particularly happy that day, he or she may want to wear their favorite outfit to express themselves and the way that they feel. If all students wear uniforms, the entire school will all look exactly the same, which takes away all creativity and suppresses individuality.
Society has taught people that they should be themselves and express their individuality. There are many people out there who think everyone should act and be the same because people get judged if they act or dress differently. Everyone is their own person and no one should have to conform to everyone else in society. The debate over whether or not uniforms should be required has been going on for years. Many schools have decided it is best to have uniforms when, in all honesty, uniforms make no difference in academic success or behavior of students. Just because someone wears a uniform does not make them any smarter of behave in a better manner. School uniforms should not be required, not only because they do not let students express themselves, but also they cost families more money and do not affect what goes on at school.
School uniforms are a way for principals to know who belongs on campus and who does not. A while back, researchers studied that the reason certain school require students to wear school uniforms is because they feel that it will help stop other students from bulling one another, just because they don’t have on high priced shoes or clothing it shouldn 't stop them from doing what they do best. "The good thing is people judge you on your inner characteristics rather than what you wear," said Nick Duran, an 8th grader and the student-body president at Rogers Middle School (Portner)." Safety is they key, when students enter the school ground, they should feel safe and not think that someone is going to harm them. Students feel as if they have to wear school uniforms it will
Children tend to break off into “cliques” and uniforms could possibly help unite students. Finding creative ways to express their individuality through other outlets other than fashion can help children forge friendships based on their common interests. In conclusion, I feel that school uniforms are something all schools should really consider implementing in their policy. All of these points show that they can be budget-friendly, help children focus and lower the barriers children can build up because of merely what they are wearing.
..., and many kids and parents don't like having uniforms or polos and jeans(except for the jeans, maybe). If i dont feel good i would just like to wear sweats and a baggy shirt with a jacket. but i can't do that anymore. I have to worry if i lose a shirt because i don't have many and the other ones may have stains or are dirty. I don't like having to worry about things because it can be very stressful. School policies on clothing are a nuisance to me. I understand that schools want students to be equal, but thats what makes us special and unique from others. Growing up saying yeah i spent my childhood be equal to other students on the outside. But on the inside we feel trapped. My opinion is that the schools should change their rules to no inappropriate or half tops. Yeah you may have to be specific but the schools are specific anyway about what we have to wear.
However, I agree that implementing school uniforms can limit a student’s self-expression of expressing their individuality, but I also believe school is a place to learn. Students can wear nice relaxed pants, and a polo shirt is a basic, comfortable outfit for these uniforms. Also, school uniforms show a strong sense of discipline among student’s that attend those schools. School uniforms are often portrayed as looking professional.
n our public schools today - they may seem like a good suggestion, but when looked at closer, all uniforms do is disguise the center of attention of the real concern that need to be successfully worked out. If security is a worry, we shouldn't be looking to a uniform to rectify the issue - if the concern is students not concentrating on school work, or getting meager grades, again, uniforms should not be seen as a way out. We have a duty to teach our children as much as we can in safe surroundings, and those are grave concerns that cannot be resolved by putting all children in the same attire. If all the children are wearing the same clothes, you still have a question with security and poor instruction - and now you have a student body that is being taught not to express their individuality. Uniforms in some cases, add to a school's concern, they do not answer them.
“We cannot forget that reinforcing economic differences drives students further apart when schools should be drawing them closer together.” There are many problems in public schools with no uniforms. The use of school uniforms could eliminate some of these problems. Although school uniforms may take away a child’s individuality, there are more benefits than disadvantages to having school uniforms in public schools because school uniforms lessen the money spent on the latest fashion trends and school uniforms provide a positive school climate. A school uniform should be a simple outfit.
There is an unending discussion in schools across the country about school uniforms and whether or not they make for a better experience in school for the students or just the teachers. Those who are pro-uniforms insist that uniforms will allow families to save money and time on clothing. This is so because these days children often get ready by themselves, because their parents are usually off to work before they wake up for school (Linder-Altman). Uniforms give the parents of these children confidence that their child is going to school looking halfway decent. There are also claims that uniforms will decrease the amount of bullying in school because all of the students will look alike. On the other hand, those protesting uniforms believe although everyone is pretty much dressed the same, cliques will still form and bullying will still exist (Dress code and Uniforms). I wore uniforms throughout primary school and I didn’t like them because I always felt uncomfortable in them. In hindsight, it could have been because I felt my personality was bottled up every time I put on my school uniform. There are claims that uniforms are not inclusive and won’t allow children to accept each other because of their differences (Linder-Altman). When everyone in the school is dressed alike, students may feel as if they aren’t able to express his/herself. Those unfamiliar with this topic may be interested to know the
Students are distracted by the variety of clothing they choose to wear it takes away from them gaining inner knowledge. Students choose to wear fancy, strange, or bright colorful clothes. Students become more interested in paying attention to what other students are wearing and what they have instead of focusing on the subject they are being taught in class. Students should be focusing on gaining new knowledge and skills. Wearing uniforms would teach students how to focus on their personalities, inner beauty, rather than their
Uniforms in public schools are becoming accepted throughout the world. The public school systems would benefit significantly if this policy were to be accepted. Wearing uniforms in public schools result in positive effects.
