Bullies frequently choose to pick on an individual based on what they wear, and as many students already have a tough time at school, they don’t need bullies to make it even worse. Imagine what would happen if they were all dressed alike? In my opinion, the use of school uniform would provide a more bully-free environment causing them to have one less reason to get picked on.
In addition, another reason why the use of uniform is favorable is that they decrease the number of incidents of students being attacked for items of clothing such as shoes and sweaters. Besides that, students wearing expensive or fashionable clothes are exposed victims of theft because of envies. Thus, it may also help reduce the amount of theft that may occur. However, I believe that school is a place to learn and that students can wear their own clothes and parade their style after school. How can people assume that personality is all about fashion? An individual’s personality is not entirely expressed by fashion itself. Personality is assuredly determined by the way a person thinks, speaks and moves. Teenagers must understand that wearing a school uniform neither defines their personality nor erases it. It brings equality between everyone. Unfortunately, kids have forgotten about the real reason for going to school and focus on outward show and popularity. They suppose schools have become more about fashion and social interactions and not about focusing on their learning. High school is typically a time when kids begin to distinguish themselves from one another. Students begin to develop their own sense of personal style, desperately trying to both fit in and stand out simultaneously. Being self-conscious and often lacking the confidence needed to assert themselves, teens are forced to use clothing and outward appearance as the means to manifest this individuality. Thus, students should not be forced to wear uniforms to school. Standard uniforms are unproven deterrents to student violence; are a "Band-Aid" to cover up the real problems faced by children and teens; and they violate students' right of self-expression, depriving them of their search for identity.
Society has taught people that they should be themselves and express their individuality. There are many people out there who think everyone should act and be the same because people get judged if they act or dress differently. Uniforms prevent students from a lower income background to be singled out for poorly made or cheap clothing, prevents use of gang colors, allows for certain safety measures, and allows teachers to form impressions of students based on actions and work rather than dress code choices.
School uniforms should be part of the school system, because statistics have shown that students who wear uniforms are doing better than dress codes. More students also feel a sense of equality among each other, and there are fewer judgments of others. It has been disputed that school uniforms would encourage protection in our education community. After all, if every student is trying the same style, it would be easier to pick out who on the school property is not a student or staff member. Those who are pro-uniforms insist that uniforms will allow families to save money and time on clothing.
