Homework is one of the struggle that students have. In now days, students are having very hard time at doing homework. They use a lots of time to finish it. Students don’t have relaxing time because of homework time. Many teachers are giving home works to students, so they usually spend time to finish homework, essay, and projects. Students shouldn’t have homework because they will get a lot of pressure and not having an enough relaxing time, too much work encourage cheating, but we can get ready for the test that coming up. Students can get ready for the test by working on their homework. Usually if students are struggle about how to study or they don’t know where to study, they study by their homework. Home works are often related to the next test that coming up. Also teachers can check whether students are doing good or bad. Students can show the ability and understanding of the section that they were learning. …show more content…
“Life today is hectic even for kids. In the majority of cases, they have some extracurricular activities, classes or tutoring to attend almost every day.”(sciencesaysjuiceplus) Students should have at least 3 hours of resting time, but often they can’t have even 3 hours. Students need to be free from the learning and pressures from the school. But home works are not letting students to be free. Students sometimes need to finish two essays and one project done on one day. Then they will sleep at 2 or 3 o clock, so it also affects teenager’s sleeping pattern and health. Students often sleep at 11 or 12 so they can’t sleep at regular teenager’s sleeping
student, I know how homework feels, especially in middle and high school. Teachers may think
Sleep deprivation is very common in adolescents and can contribute to many different problems that can be avoided with simple changes in daily sleep routines. According to the article, “young and sleep deprived” by Karen Weintraub many psychologists want to persuade middle schools and high schools to push back start times to increase safety and performance in their students’ everyday lives. They claim that the reason why teenagers are drowsy and experience impaired attention span in class is because of sleep deprivation. Psychologists claim this because students around the United States are waking up before their circadian rhythms or internal clocks tell them to awake. Therefore, if students awake before their circadian
Lack of sleep of teens is not caused by choice. Many teens do not choose to stay up late at night because they are out or having fun. The body has circadian rhythms. “These rhythms are generated internally and develop without any social or environmental cues. Adolescents experience a natural circadian phase delay and, therefore, tend to stay up later and sleep in later than in preadolescents” (Final Report Summary, 2001). The opening and closing schedules of schools are not based on these rhythms but are based on the business world and what is best for it. “School schedules should be adapted to the unique needs of different sub-populations of pupils. The administrator must not bear the sole responsibility for planning class schedules” (...
Khristina Janer, a mother from Illinois, says, “I don’t feel like a parent. I feel like a drill sergeant!” when making her kids finish their homework after an extended period of time (Wallace). Many studies show the effectiveness of homework and all of the benefits it can do for us; the problem is: teachers are making kids do too much homework when they get home from school. The teachers don’t take in the environmental factors that could be harming any student 's ability to get a task done. Teachers automatically believe that kids are irresponsible or unmotivated when they don’t succeed in finishing their homework. When kids are given this much, or this difficult of, homework, sleep is being sacrificed. Even when they are doing all of their
Studies conducted over a nearly 30 year span have consistently shown only a small fraction of adolescents get the 9 or more hours of sleep they require to function at their best. While teenagers are notorious for causing their own sleep difficulties, sleep loss among adolescents is confined primarily to school nights. “Sleep deprivation is epidemic among adolescents, with potentially serious impacts on mental and physical health, safety, and learning. Most teenagers undergo a biological shift to a later sleep-wake cycle, which can make early school start times particularly challenging.” says
Were you aware that teens tend to have irregular sleeping patterns that can harm their body and the way it functions? When it comes to sleep, teens are inclined to stay up very late during the week and wake up very early in the morning. On the weekends, they seem to gravitate more towards waking up very late to catch up on the sleep that they missed earlier in the week. Now that you know what the causes of having irregular sleeping patterns can do to a teenager’s body, you will be able to see the positive and negative effects of what not having enough sleep can do to one’s self. These facts will be explored through the articles “Should Schools Start Later” by Justin O’Neill and “Why Schools Should Start Later in the Morning” by Emily Richmond.
One of the reasons homework should be banned is because of the unnecessary stress and strain it creates for students. Many students are left pulling their hair out at homework time. Students struggle with homework for different reasons. Some of which are because they do not understand the assigned homework, or they are not being challenged, and quite possibly because they have hit their daily threshold for learning and have no more to give. Furthermore, students who struggle academically will likely require extra assistance to do their homework. Students are therefore tasked with finding a qualified person to assist them with homework. Students are not only under the stress of homework, but now they are under additional stress to find a qualified person that can assist them. Unfortunately, some students may not be able to obtain the help they need with their homework. Consequently and to no fault of their own their grades may be affected inaccurat...
Have you ever wanted to just shred up your homework or throw it out the window and have no consequences? Kids are assigned daily homework from the time they start kindergarten at the ripe young age of five. Is it really necessary? Does it even help better learning or even higher test scores? The amount of homework we do wastes time, money, paper, and trees because it’s practically the exact same thing we did in class that day. Homework causes kid’s and teen’s frustration, tiredness, little time for other activities and possibly even a loss of interest in their education. It also keeps everyone up; it has kids and teens staying up until they finish it, the parents trying to help them and the teachers grading it. So, I think that homework is a waste and kids and teens should choose whether they want to do their homework for extra credit and practice or not.
High school is infamously known for starting early in the morning, and ending early in the afternoon. But, is this time schedule affecting teenagers’ sleeping schedule? Teenagers’ sleep is being interrupted by an alarm in the morning; this leads them to waking up tired because their body wasn’t done sleeping. Teens go to bed late at home because they have too much work, or they aren’t tired, and then they wake up early to leave for school. This daily, early routine can badly affect the student’s health.
Harris Cooper, a researcher on homework from Duke University, claims that too much homework causes stress. In this I paper will talk about the damaging effects homework has on a child, how homework causes students to dropout of school, and some ideas for an alternative to homework.
School is finally out and you just want to go home and relax. But the you remembered that you have homework. You also remembered you have soccer practice in an hour and it takes you longer than an hour to do your homework. You just don’t have time for homework.
It will also teach students time and stress management. Students will be able to remember equations and facts easier for assignments such as quizzes or tests. Even though it can stress students out, schools need homework because homework increases student involvement in learning and homework has positive effects as long as there isn't too much. When a child receives homework, it develops their skills for learning in and out of the classroom. As long as the student receives a proper amount of homework, it will make the student want to study more outside of school, rather than only in school.
How many of you as children thought homework was a waste of time? How about now as adults with your own children?
Should or should not have homework There are many pros and cons to a lot of things and places. One very particular place that has a lot pros and cons is schools. My argument is schools should/should not have homework. The side I am going for is the con side.
The way that students approach their homework has been investigated as a method
