Should Kids have Homework?

“Graded homework helps students develop skills for lifelong learning.” These words were said by Robert A. Nowicki from the master's teaching program. This quote is one of many that supports homework in schools. Homework can help students improve in school and throughout life, as long as it isn’t too much. It will also teach students time and stress management. Students will be able to remember equations and facts easier for assignments such as quizzes or tests. Even though it can stress students out, schools need homework because homework increases student involvement in learning and homework has positive effects as long as there isn't too much. When a child receives homework, it develops their skills for learning in and out of the classroom. As long as the student receives a proper amount of homework, it will make the student want to study more outside of school, rather than only in school. Also, when a student spends this time on their homework, it helps better their skills in the subject, and make them better at it. It will also helps you remember certain things that may be important, like math equations you may need for a test. Often times, when a student has to do homework, the end up working together. Only give the student the appropriate amount per grade level, and provide help to the student when needed. The student shouldn’t sit all night doing homework each and every night, rather, just have a quick session to help the student remember how to do certain formulas and remember important facts. Homework actually helps students learn how to manage time and stress. Homework helps the student decide when they need to work on an assignment, and when they don’t have to.
