This is a big controversial issue in The United States because many people theorize that if we let our children eat junk food or snacks that have lots of fats and grease in them then the result will be catastrophic for the new generations that are to come. Therefor there is always a back up plan for these types of situations such as starting your own opinion on the matter of the topic which is stated as “Should Candy and Soda be Banned from Schools.” In one hand there's the controversial pull back of the government that is trying to make citizens and residents of this country to lay off unhealthy eating and the way they will strongly go with their opinion of the matter is by trying to eliminate vending machines that carry high calorie snacks and drinks. …show more content…
Throughout this difficult debate I have made my opinion of the matter as if its a vague and distributive attitude towards us as citizens of the United States because we as residents or citizens depending on own situations will not go with what the government wants us to go through and we will not let them make our own decisions of either banning the vending machines at our schools. Furthermore my opinion of the matter of banning candy and soda at school or even vending machines is an obscure manner because we should make our own decisions in the matter of either choosing to eat these unhealthy high calorie snacks or to not eat them at all. In the general contexts in the other hand these unhealthy foods are a tragedy towards or bodies and if we consume too much of these high calorie snacks we will get health problems in the future which is a horrible attribute of consuming these unhealthy
Furthermore, schools have become a paradise for fast-food franchises . Vending machines stocked with candy and soft drinks are unacceptable: nearly 19 out of 20 high schools in the U.S. have vending machines that sell pop, while almost 60 percent of elementary schools do. More than 70 percent of high schools sell can...
Unhealthy foods are what make the money for schools and that is why they serve them for students. (Schlafy) Schools feel like they need the extra money in the budget, even though it is at the student’s expense. Data shows that nearly 60% of all middle schools in the US serve soda from vending machines. (Schlafy) Soda is very high in sugar and is not at all good for children, but it is still sold in school vending machines. The ways food in schools is now are way too high in fats and sugars. This is not good for the children and very bad in the long run. Elementary schoolchildren have an estimated $15 billion of their own money that they can use to buy whatever they want in schools, and parents have almost another $160 billion to give students for food money. (Schlafy) Big businesses see this as a big source of profit and therefore encourage children to buy their products, and want them to be offered in school because of th4e likelihood of children buying the business’s product. All in all, obesity in the US is greatly influenced by the foods offered in schools
Instead of getting rid of vending machines in schools, they could stock them with healthy options. Adults are in charge of what goes into the machines. Parents are for the most part giving kids the money to buy snacks, so they could have a say in what the kids are buying with that money. There are many foods that could be given instead of chips, and soda. There are many companies, ensuring that their snacks are healthy. Vending machines should not be removed from schools to ensure that kids have access to food at all times during or after
In “Hooked on ‘Caramel-Colored Gold,” Melody Nelson claims “Despite the increased awareness of the benefits of good nutrition, we are a nation hooked on junk food, and many school administrators are taking advantage of the situation ” (par. 3). Nelson propose a ban on vending machines in schools because junk food is unhealthy for children, and they risk future health problems. I agree with Melody Nelson and believe that vending machines should be banned from school campuses, because they sell unhealthy food, they cause more money to schools for hiring extra custodians, and they are affecting children learning abilities.
I believe in doing things no matter how bad you are at them. Every kid has quit that kindergarten sports team after not being placed in the “advanced” group a few years later. We can relate to the instrument lessons we stopped when we realized we would never be that four-year-old prodigy from YouTube, or the Girl Scout troop we joined in elementary school before accepting we would never be the highest cookie-seller. As children grow up, they are hesitant to try new things because they worry it’s too late to succeed at them. For high schoolers today, everything is all about winning - about being the best striker on the team or the student who gets the solo in the orchestra.
Correctly wear the right attire for today? Students in school are judged more than people think. Mainly by their outfit or if they’re following the status quo. Bullying is a big struggle for students when it is coming from teachers and faculty, being treated unfairly, discrimination, and students being targeted for being themselves. Dress code should be banned from all schools due to misjudgement and breaking the rights for ourselves.
This is why I think cameras should be aloud in the classroom. I think it would be easy contact with parents because teachers can talk to parents faster than just emailing them. Teachers won't need to send any more emails ever again. Easier to talk to parents about forgotten lunch, so it will come to you faster. Now, there can be parent teacher conferences at home, so parents can cook. Students whose practice got canceled can tell their parents faster than calling their parents.
Sugary foods and beverages are acceptable in moderation, but when Consumed in excess have detrimental effects in the consumer. Sugary foods and beverages are all too readily available in lunch and school vending machines. Making the case for the need to remove sugary foods and beverages from schools entirely. Schools should remove sugary foods from cafeteria lunches and vending machines to prevent diabetes to combat obesity and to encourage healthy eating habits in children.
Pro Resolved:Public colleges and universities in the united states ought not restrict any constitutionally protected speech. Public colleges and universities are defined, by Webster's Dictionary as institutions which are funded through public money such as taxes. Constitutionally protected speech means, that it's protected speech under the US Constitution. I will be talking about two things in my speech today.
Although, when a school suspends a student for a certain amount of days depending on the problem, it is mostly for miss behavior. The students might not take as them getting in trouble but, they might take saying they have a few days to sleep in like a vacation. Students have work to do while they are suspended but, since most kids parents have jobs they are gone most of the day, and the child can get in trouble for not doing their work or going places they shouldn’t be. Having this happen can lead to bad things. Even though schools should be disciplining the students, they should not suspended students because, the students may not learn their lessons at home they may need to be put in detention for awhile so they know not to do it again because, They will learn their lesson better at school, Have better grades, Also the student won’t be unattended at any time in detention.
Schools have been debating if vending machines are truly necessary in schools, they can provide many benefits but also be seen in a negative way. The big issue with having vending machines is that the high calorie snacks cause obesity. But, not all snacks are unhealthy. Having vending machines give students the right to make the decision to eat healthy or unhealthy.
Schools would rather make a profit by placing competitive foods inside of vending machines, instead of providing healthier options such as a granola bar or low-fat yogurt. Schools priorities are turned, and it is extremely necessary for schools to remember that their students’ health should be their main focus. Schools are thinking more about money than considering what is beneficial for their students. In order to prohibit unhealthy eating patterns from occurring, it is imperative for schools to realize that what they are feeding and selling in their vending machines in schools are not beneficial to
Watch Out! School Uniforms Are Plaguing Our Schools. You get up in the morning, you just bought a new shirt that you absolutely adore and you can't wait to wear it too school, but something stands in your way, your school uniform. You would much rather wear your new shirt instead of that uncomfortable blazer and tie. Most parents would say school uniforms are a blessing, but are they really all we crack them up to be?
Brody states,”Schools that introduce healthful foods in the classroom have shown that they are more likely to be eaten in the lunchroom and at home,”(Brody, 2011). If students are educated about healthier foods, they will realize that if they constantly eat unhealthy foods, they can potentially become obese. As a result, they may become diabetic. Brody uses a quote from Dr. Gortmaker,”’Marketing of food and beverages is associated with increasing obesity rates and is especially effective among children,’”(Brody, 2011). Foods and beverages such as chips and sodas are marketed towards children so the children should know this and be aware of the companies that are trying to make money off of selling obesogenic foods to children. Students should prevent themselves from wanting junk food all day because it's advertised to them specifically. Students should know the basics of why unhealthy foods are bad for them and companies selling the food advertise their unhealthy foods to
A developing problem in Canada is the health of the nation. This could be for a lot of reasons, but a main contributor is fast food and sugary beverages. In recent events the government has asked the question ‘should we banned pop and fast food from schools?’ Admitting, this ideology makes sense to target the youth, but does this really promote an overall healthier life style for students? To answer this it will promote a heathier life style and take a great deal of sugar and unwanted calories out of young kid’s diets. However, it does not teach them anything about a healthy life style and it takes away their basic human right of freedom. Although, completely banning them does not teach Canadian students a healthy life style. Restricting
