People who takes short breaks are more productive than people people who do not. So with that being said, in my opinion students should have breaks in school! I think students should get breaks throughout the day because giving them breaks in school will have them not tired in school and walking around like a zombie, teaching them so much can have their brains go crazy and get them stressed, and lastly having them interact better with other students. So that the students would be more productive in class/school. My first reason that students should have breaks is because when they sit in classes all day, their body would get tired. So giving them time to play and socialize , will have them doing work, not sleeping , and lastly paying attention.
Giving children too much work, or teaching them 3 to 4 new techniques in on class can be too much for a child to handle. Everything that you teach that child they may not know already! So that could be hard on them to remember in little amount of time. So the best thing would be slowing it down and giving breaks in between. In the outcome of that would be not getting frustrated because they do not know how to do that one lesson that you are teaching. So giving them a break, I feel like they would comprehend better after having afive minute break ad letting everything out .
My last reason for why I think students should have breaks during the day is to improve on social skills. Socializing is a big thing to me, so within the amount of time that you have on "break". Children can interact with their friends or better yet, people that they do not know! Making new friends is a good thing in my opinion, because of the simple fact that some kids have no friends , are getting bullied, or even worse ! If you give children breaks, they should be able to help other children, stop bullying, and become friends
As I wearily sat in my seat, writing an essay on the importance of electricity in the modern world, I caught myself glancing repeatedly at the clock that was so carefully perched above the teacher’s desk. “Ten minutes, only ten more minutes left until school is over and I get to go home!” I told myself. In most schools, the average school day is about eight hours long. Eight hours of continuously sitting in a chair taking notes during lectures, doing classwork, projects, etc. During these eight hours of school, students deserve a short, outdoor break in which they can isolate themselves from the stress of working all day and just relax. Studies have shown that people who take short breaks throughout the day to do light, outdoor breaks are more productive than those who do not. A short, outdoor break will benefit students due to the fact that students will have time to relax; students will be able to focus more, concentrate, and be more productive; and teachers will have more time to prepare for the next class coming.
Extended class periods and block scheduling will improve student’s grades and can diminish their stress level significantly. A normal day in block scheduling consists of only four classes a day, alternating each day. These classes would last 120 minutes each, with the same 5 minute passing periods in between classes. This scheduling gives teachers more time to explain their lesson. It also gives students time to recover from the late nights due to sports and other activities because they only have four classes a day. Their homework for these classes isn’t due for another day, so they don’t have to stress over getting it done. 120 minute classes combined with blocked scheduling increases the amount of time teachers have for instruction and will overall increase the student’s knowledge, in turn, raising their grades.
How beneficial would it be for students to have a free period during the school day? I will give you the reasons on to why I think students should have a free period during the school day. The reasons why we should have a free period include, having time to hang out with friends, time to get help from teachers with assignments, or catch some Z’s. One of the reasons students should have a free period is because it will allow them to relax, take a brain break, and hang out with friends. Students deserve to have this extra free time because school can be really stressful and having this free time in school to do whatever you want will help us to reset and recharge.
Children can burn off bottled up energy at recess that they have accumulated while sitting through their teacher’s lessons. Lahey mentions that “studies have found that students who enjoy the benefit of recess are more attentive once they return to class”. This is helpful because the child will be focused on what they are learning instead of fidgeting in their chair. Also, providing breaks to students while they are learning can result in longer attention spans. Recess is a break that recharges the brain and allows elementary students to control their desire to adventure. Young children are easily distracted, so recess regulates this by providing them with their own free time. Students become more self-contained after they return from recess due to their tiredness. This is useful in class because children will be less hyperactive. The absence of recess would not permit students to learn self-control
I am convinced that students would do better in school if they had a midday break that allowed them enough time to eat a good meal because they need to recharge their brains with physical activity. This will give students an extra push to have more energy when they return back to class. Critics may exaggerate that this method will do nothing but make students drained and exhausted personally I disagree. A mid-day break for an hour will do nothing but strengthen us, all of us. School days should be shorter fro students because they do not get enough sleep, have to much homework, and have barley have time to participate in extra curricular activities. A majority of students have sleep depravation due to school. If school would either start or end late students will have a greater opportunity to get more sleep. Teachers expect students to pay attention for 90 minutes while the night before they were up late finishing their homework for there classes. Some teachers do not realize that students have a life and work or have other obligations that take up a major portion of the students.
Preschoolers can’t concentrate on an activity for a long time. They can't remain attentive for more than three or four minutes on a particular matter. Teaches should plan methods, through which, they can increase this time span in a periodic way rather than attempting for a sudden increase.
Should secondary school have recess? Secondary schools should not have recess, because it takes time out of class. Some schools don't have enough class time to teach or learn about the topic that they are learning so they don't have to reteach it to the students.

My other course I teach, F.C.S. Connections (requirement for our juniors in the high school) I personally believe I provide brain breaks for them. The content within this course provides students information on temperament, personalities, family and dating relationships, communication and conflict management skills, personal financial management, and empathy training. This course meets the framework for movement from brain breaks to teaching content. However, the foods course does not even come close to comparing. I personally feel comfortable with starting at providing brain breaks in my Foods 1 course. The reason behind having brain breaks is for the students to take a break from the content. During lab days, I have no problem having my students up and moving around but during lecture days, I need to improve. My goal is to have one brain break during each lecture day, my course takes place during an 80 minute block. My strategy to accomplish this goal is that after learning one concept or completing a worksheet/activity, I would have my students do a brain break before moving onto the next content. It was stated in text 1, paragraph 3,”They didn’t have the bored, glazed over looks of the kids who had been in school for weeks, with no breaks in sight.” This also can make the kids more engaged if they aren’t burnt out from going a long time without a break. Schools all over the country are considering, if not already applying, the removal of recess for elementary school students. Receipts have been scientifically proven to play a substantial part in the social development of a child, their physical health, and the amount of attention they pay in the classroom. For example, the Tennessee Board of Education says, "It is the position of the NASPE that all elementary school children should be provided with at least one daily period of recess of at least 20 minutes in length" (National Association for Sports and Physical Education). Keeping recess in schools could help lower the childhood obesity rate, help children to be more attentive in class, and assist in the development of their much needed social skills. These aspects are essential to academic health and to your child succeeding academically.

During cognitive development it is important that teachers allow time for students to have breaks in between classroom tasks such as recess and other extracurricular activities. Learning large amounts of material is easier for children to understand when it is taken in as chunks. Assign children with short tasks and switch from demanding activities to less demanding activities (Biehler & Snowman, 2000).
