Introduction
Early childhood is the most mischievous period in the life of a normal child. Usually, teachers find it difficult to retain the attention of the preschoolers for a long time. Read on, to find activities which increase the attention span of a preschooler without much effort.
Preschoolers can’t concentrate on an activity for a long time. They can't remain attentive for more than three or four minutes on a particular matter. Teaches should plan methods, through which, they can increase this time span in a periodic way rather than attempting for a sudden increase.
Story Reading:
Preschoolers love to hear stories. Read to them loudly for four or five minutes. Carefully choose stories which can arouse interest in the minds of preschooler, so that he/she should insist on hearing the rest of the story. Small pictorial stories about natural phenomenon like rain, solar system, funny detective stories and animal stories can be used. Read continuously for a few minutes, carefully stop at that point where preschooler’s inquisitiveness will be aroused and then give them some time to relax. Wait till they request to hear the rest. Initially allow preschoolers to interrupt your reading with their own questions but slowly decrease the number of questions that can be asked in each session. Clay and Building Blocks
As most preschoolers like clay modeling and building blocks, teachers can use them too. Make models of sphere or box. Instruct preschoolers to make a similar one in size, shape and color. Let them take their own time. Once they have finished the work show them a bit more complicated model and repeat the above activity. The same technique can be used with building blocks too.
Conclusion
Like children of all other ages, preschoolers too love to keep of playing computer games and watching TV shows. Even though this can retain the attention for a long time, teachers should not allow preschoolers to spend more time on this, as it will harm both his/her mental and physical growth. The most important thing which a preschool teacher should remember is that, she/he should select only those activities which his/her preschoolers are interested in.
Once your baby is old enough to follow what you are reading it would be a good idea to read them simpmle stories about fimilar day to day routines i.e. Getting up and ready, going to school, having dinner, a bath and a bed time routine. Reading these simple stories repeatedly to them will ensure that they are familiar with them and can take part in them.
As you walk into the room, a pint-sized kid runs up to your legs and squeezes your knees. The kind of family involvement this program offers includes training, car seat safety, health dept. workshops, and home visit to help parents meet goals for their children. Parent volunteers are always welcomed. Room arrangement and choice of equipment are geared toward toddlers and their development needs. The room was open and allowed viewing of the children at all times. As the toddlers left their big square table they headed to the kitchen area also known as the Dramatic Play area for social time. It did not take them long to have everything pulled out and the teacher having them put things back up as she sings the song clean up from the Barney Show. The room consisted of a play kitchen and dress up area for pretend play with the teacher. They practiced dressing, feeding, and loving the baby dolls. They practiced cooking, serving and eating the pretend food. I loved watching the children play dress up. One male child carried around a purse as he shopped and another male child learned he had pockets. At this age children are considered object centered and this was defiantly seen during play time. One reason may be that some parents think preschool is just an overpriced daycare and are not aware that they are, in fact; two separate programs. I observed toddlers at the Little Sprouts Early Education and Child Care Center. Upon entering I did had certain expectations and a sense of what I was prepared to observe. However, I was very surprised in my observations. All the children were well behaved and they got along. It was interesting to see how different each toddler was and their physical and intellectual abilities. The toddlers engaged in all types of play including imaginative, active, dramatic, pretend, and cooperative play. Play is significantly important in child development, especially in early childhood because it allows children to explore and learn new things. Children develop a number of skills during play. They develop in social, emotional, language, thinking, and nurturing skills. Language developmentalists believe that play is the most productive and the most enjoyable activity that children engage in (Berger, 2015).
Recently, I went to The Happy School, a preschool in my hometown of Smallville, California, to pass the morning with the students there. In the time I spent there, the children, ages 3 to 5, engaged in unstructured play, and sat in a circle for calendar time and reading aloud. The preschool is primarily child-centered in terms of its organization, meaning it incorporates a lot of child directed activity, and less structured, or adult directed, learning (Berk, 2008). I watched the group of about twenty children with the intention of studying them as a whole, but I found myself compelled to watch two children in particular, Addison and Jack, because they displayed particularly intriguing behavior. Go for an outing with the 3-5-year-old children and take as many pictures as possible to print later. Give them to the child later and let them arrange them in the sequence of where you visited first to the last place. At every picture, they can say what they did. This activity will help in building expressive confidence, they will understand how to answer questions and encourage sequencing.

This question interest me because my four and a half year old will be starting preschool in two weeks, currently he is with a baby sitter during the day at her house. After searching for the right preschool for him and seeing children younger than him there made me question if I should have started him in preschool sooner. With so many interests in early childhood development, I believe there will be a lot of information on this topic. The more books that are read to children, the more their vocabulary expands. Reading to children can introduce them to different literature they might not find on their own (Koralek). Developing a close bond makes babies feel safe and this type of relationship fosters positive brain development. As a caretaker, one does not want to spoil a child, but crying is their only way of communication, so always keep that in mind. Playing peek-a-boo has been just one of the many games you can play with an infant. Action and reaction games are developmentally important because they are an important part of cognitive development. Blowing bubbles and making funny faces are two more developmentally appropriate activities for infants (learning to distinguish differences is a literacy activity). These games are fun and easy and are simple ways to increase pre-literacy and literacy skills, also helps a child read facial expressions. Having quiet time with infants is developmentally appropriate because listening to soft music before a nap calms the infant and allows them time to think.
