Parents should not be able to spank their children Imagine you were the cause of your child’s developmental issues. Your child is having long term behavioral issues, mood disorders, along with lower brain development that related to you spanking your child. Could you imagine your child delayed in many personal aspects since you believe that children, fearing the parents makes them act better? Parents who want control over their kids, or who is thinking about spanking their children need to know the related developmental issues with spanking their children. Parents should not be able to spank their kids due to physical and emotional development issues.
Although there are not many psychologists who agree with spanking, there is a psychologist who agrees with the parenting style who uses the spanking method. Diana Baumrind are clinical and developmental psychologist has researched the different parenting styles. In my eyes spanking does not fix a child’s behavior, nor help them learn right from wrong. Which is why I disagree with parents being able to spank their children. Data has shown that 13 out of a total of 17 negative outcomes they assessed, including increased aggression and behavioral and mental health problems as well as reduced cognitive ability and self-esteem (Moyer, 2016). Children should not be delayed mentally because of a form of discipline from their parents that use the discipline as a source of control. I also disagree with the opposing view because there is a way to teach a child right and wrong and a proper way to seize control. Hitting, slapping, punching are all cruel punishments and no child should be enduring these actions to be proven a control
