Research is a big component of a well written and credible paper. In order for your research paper to be a reliable source of information it needs to be based off of scholarly articles and books in order to insure that the information you are writing about is correct. With the help of the 21st century technology it is now comparatively easy to do research since most sources are electronic and you can search through them using key words and phrases. Advanced searches can help you narrow down the information even further and help you get the information you need in a fraction of time. Technology is a blessing and a curse in many ways. If you do not search for information in a right way, the facts you are going to get are not going to be reliable and may even be false. To prevent that from happening, always use sites such as google scholar or your library electronic server. This will insure that you are getting scholarly information that has been peer edited and reviewed by experts. The information in those articles will be correct since it was fact checked many times before being published. In fact, publishing a scholarly journal entry is a …show more content…
The best place to go when looking for books is the library. If you do not know the title of the book that you need, it is best to check online using key words to narrow down the selection. Using advanced search when looking for books can help you to get better results. Once you find the book that you want to use, see if it is checked in or checked out. If it is checked in, look for a call number and the library that it is located in. The call number should help you located your book on the shelf. You can also reserve the book and pick it up at the library later. However; if the book is checked out, you can place it on hold and be notified when the book is ready. The website also tells you the date that the book is due so you can plan
At first I could not find this book in book shops. I have tried to find it in a few bookstores but they said it was sold out meanwhile some other places said that they do not have any copy of this book. I need to travel to find it. I did ask my friends to buy one for me if they did find any. What happened is that there was only one copy left, so she need to buy it for herself. Another one is that she forgot to buy for me. It is okay. A famous proverb says “Where there is a will, there is a way”. Then I took another alternative where I used the internet service and find it online. I kept searching until I found one which is in PDF form. I download and print it. I cut it to make it looks like a book and bind it at shop. At last, I have a copy of...
The following article analysis review by Team B illustrates and identifies several examples of statistics abuse in the practical world as a result of flawed research. My method of research has changed slightly. When i search the internet for articles, journals, and blogs, i always give it a quick scan. I look for key words and terms that are pertinent and if i feel that the material will be useful to my research, then i read it while taking notes. This semester, i tried to take less notes. I made sure that my notes were very specific to the focus of my essay. This way, i was not swimming in a sea of notes, thus overwhelming myself. While reading Amanda Ripley’s The Smartest Kids In The World, I made sure to keep important word and terms in my head on a chapter-to-chapter basis so that i had an idea of what to talk about in class. This helped in my in-class writing...
The first source was a part of a historical website. I knew that this site was reliable for two reason, the first one was because the date was pretty recent and the author was a history major. The second reason I knew this was reliable was because it matched up with many other website I read about to research about my topic. The second source I used was on a civil war organizational website which already gives me a good idea that it is a reliable source. But this reason I picked it was because the website itself had very good information that was easy to understand on so many battles and topics in
Are assertions in the source based on reliable evidence? Are sources cited? How are you able to tell? They do list where they get their info from within the paragraphs or quotes.
Writing can be very frustrating; laying your ideas out on paper so that others can grasp the concept you are trying to convey is a very difficult task. In Writing 101 I have learned how to formulate good theses that are arguable and also how to validate articles that have to do with my topic. The most important element of a paper is the thesis statement. It captures the reader's attention and tells them what the essay is about. Having a well-structured thesis along with evidence to support that thesis are the main ingredients to a well-written essay. I have also learned how important it is to research an author’s background to ensure their credibility. This is a very important step in writing because today we can find information on a topic, however, it is not valid. By researching the author, we can see if he or she is an expert in the area and so this would make his or her information more credible. There is a ...
Research papers are something that is included in almost every writing course. To convey what the research paper was originally produced for, Davis and Shadle’s writes, “Anyone, according to this modern mythology, was capable of making a breakthrough, given the right disposition, intelligence, and training,” on page 423 of “Building a Mystery.” The research paper was originally made to display new knowledge. However, as time went on it, It transformed into students just spitting out boring facts that they have found on paper. Davis and Shadle’s essay is essentially about taking a different route from normal research papers.
C.S. Lewis was one of the greatest know fictional writers; he created a wonderful series of books called The Chronicles of Narnia. His real name was Clive Staples Lewis but also his friends called him “Jack”. He was born on November 29, 1898 in Belfast, Ireland. C.S. Lewis was married to Joy Davidman, his father was Albert James Lewis and his mother was Florence Augusta Lewis. He is best known for his fictional work and for his non-fictional Christian apologetics. When Lewis was a little boy him and his brother created the world of Boxen, also he had a fascination with anthropomorphic animals falling in love with Beatrix Potter’s and often writing and illustrating his own animal stories. When C.S. Lewis was a teenager most of his writings moved away from the tales of Boxen, and he began using different art forms to try to capture his new-found interest in Norse mythology and the natural world. In 1916 he was awarded a scholarship at University of Oxford.

My search process for the I Search was relatively easy and simple. The steps in finding useful resources and information were using key words to Google my topic and then finding whether or not the source is credible. After verifying that I could use the website, I read the entire article before going back and picking out captions to paraphrase and take notes on. Over the time of my research, my questions changed repeatedly in order to match the research and information I found. At the beginning of my process, I had trouble finding information the matched my questions, once I changed my questions to fit my research instead of the other way around. After fixing my thick and thin questions, my research was extremely easy to find and use. From this process I learned that although many sources are reliable, many on the internet are biased so I now know that I shou...
The second state I have chosen to write about is the beautiful state of Yucatan. It has been a pleasure living here and although Yucatan is considered to be part of Mexico it has developed as if it was its own country. Having so many different cultures influencing it you can see the European, American and Mexican influences in the food, architecture and History that Yucatan has. Yucatan has been in the middle of many great battles, diplomatic situations and conquest. It has been a privilege to see the Mayan, Spanish and Mexican influences collide with each other. I have seen how indigenous people still fight to preserve their language but understand that the world is evolving with or without them, which forces many to learn multiple languages. Yucatan is filled with a different amount of languages you have French, English, Spanish, Mayan and a whole bunch of many different languages mostly having to do with Having one of the seven wonders of the modern world which is Chichen itza.
Now that we are living in an ever changing world, technology is viewed as the most resourceful tool in keeping up with the pace. Without the use of technology, communication would be limited to using mail for delivery and encyclopedias for research. Although technology has improved the way we communicate and find information for research, the information is not always valid. Unfortunately, for those of us who use the internet for shopping, research, or reading articles of personal interest the information is not treated the same as a your magazine or book. While such literature is reviewed by an editorial staff, internet literature or information can be published by anyone. In order to reap the full benefit of having the use of technology for any purpose, there are five basic criteria’s one must keep in mind as an evaluating tool for deciding whether or not the particular website is a reliable source for information.
Compared to books and journals, internet research saves time that the researcher would have needed to put into searching through various books and articles for information. It is also cheaper and more convenient than having to search for credible experts to interview. Internet research conducted from a single location has the potential to retrieve a wide range of relevant and direct information which makes research faster and more efficient. The many stages of review a book is required to pass through before publication helps to verify the credentials of the author and the authenticity of the facts contained in publication. While this may be an advantage, it also poses the problem of making it difficult for authors and publishers to keep up with new findings. On the other hand, internet materials can be updated easily and made read...
Research philosophy, refers to the development of knowledge adopted by the researchers in their research (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). In other words, it is the theory that used to direct the researcher for conducting the procedure of research design, research strategy, questionnaire design and sampling (Malhotra, 2009). It is very important to have a clear understanding of the research philosophy so that we could examine the assumptions about the way we view the world, which are contained in the research philosophy we choose, knowing that whether they are appropriate or not (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009). According to Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill (2009), three major ways of thinking about research philosophy are examined: ontology, epistemology and axiology. Each of them carries significant differences which will have an impact on the way we consider the research procedures. Ontology, “is concerned with nature of reality”, while epistemology “concerns what constitutes acceptable knowledge in a field of study and axiology “studies judgements about value” (Saunders, Lewis and Thornhill, 2009, p110, p112, p116). This study is intent on creating some “facts” from objective evaluations which are made by the subjects. Therefore, epistemology will be chosen for this study as the way of thinking about the research philosophy.
With the advancement of technology and the exponential increase of Internet use, professionals-academic and business-are relying on electronic resources for information, research, and data. The Internet gives an individual access to a sea of information, data, and knowledge; plus, this vast amount of information is available in a matter of seconds, rather than hours or days. The ease of access, availability, up-to-the-second timeliness, and vastness of online resources is causing many professionals, however, to forgo the use of print sources. Online resources are useful to conduct scholarly research and 'may be convenient, but they have shortcomings that make print sources necessary for submitting high-quality assignments' (Dilevko & Gottieb, 2002, ¶ 1).
