During my four years at college, I hope to receive a quality education at Penn State University. I want to challenge myself academically, taking high level classes to prepare a post-graduate job. I would also like to become immersed in the rich community at Penn State. There is a plethora of activities offered at Penn State, and I plan to take full advantage of these great opportunities. I would like to join a business or finance program, as I have a deep passion for business and feel like there is value in getting involved in finances outside the classroom. I would also like to study abroad during my time in college. Penn State has over three hundred study abroad programs, taking students across the world to fifty countries. to learn about other cultures, as the majority of Americans are egocentric and not aware of other cultures. I believe that Penn State is the university for me as it has rigorous academics, a great community, and vast opportunities to study abroad. I have always believed that in order to achieve success, you need to set high but attainable goals. I hold myself to a high standard and believe I can do whatever I put my mind to. I plan to major in Finance at Penn State, graduating with excellent grades and more importantly, a vast knowledge of business and internship experience at various cooperations. After university, I hope to get a job in New York City, the capital of the financial sector. I want to be in the hub of the financial world, as there is no bigger stage than Wall Street. I believe that I can make an immediate impact on a company, because of my passion and quick-thinking problem solving skills. I hope to climb the corporate ladder, achieving great success along the way. In addition to working in the financial sector, I want to give back to my community. I would like to help high school kids by offering them guidance. There were many times in my high school career that I could have used advice or assistance from someone else. I want to be in a position to make a difference, not just in my community, but in the world. My ultimate goal, which is shared by others, is to make the world a better place than it is now. I think it is critical that my generation facilitates real change, as it is important for future generations to inherit a better world. Over the course of the past four years, I have built relationships that will last a lifetime at Morris County Golf Club.
The staff at Morris County has become a second family to me. I am usually at the club five days a week, whether it is for caddying or working the driving range. I have shared countless meals with my boss and other employees, exchanging stories and learning valuable life lessons. Many of my experiences during my time at Morris County are among my fondest, and I hold them close to my heart. One after a long day working the range, my boss Chris asked me if I wanted to play a couple holes before sunset. On the first hole, he proposed a bet. We would play match-play, best of five holes, and if I won he would send me out early the next day to caddie. But if he won, I had to clean twenty golf carts before I left that night. I accepted, even though Chris was a scratch golfer and I was a thirteen handicap. I proceeded to play the best golf of my life, tying the first three holes with pars, losing the fourth to a birdie. I was one down going into the final hole. Chris made par, putting the pressure on me to sink a twenty-foot putt. In a dramatic ending, I made the putt, ending the match at a tie. We rode back to the clubhouse, and together we washed all of the remaining golf carts, even know I could have gone home. To me, this depicts my time at Morris County. Chris and the rest of the caddies treated me like family, and in return I wanted whatever I could to help out, whether it be working extra days, doing multiple rounds, or even washing golf carts at nine at
night. I love my job as a caddie and working the driving range, not only because of the environment, but also because of all the wonderful people I have met over the past four years. I believe I am a strong candidate to receive the Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship because of my work ethic and commitment to Morris County Golf Club. I take a great amount of pride in my job, and it is displayed through my punctuality, attendance, and success as a caddie. I am at the club every weekend during the school year and five days a week over the summer, completing over two hundred and fifty loops as a caddie. Chris, as well as my fellow colleagues, are able to depend on me to go the extra mile, regardless of the size of the task. I am privileged to have worked at such a fantastic golf club like Morris County. I hope to continue to thrive as a caddie and begin my studies at Penn State University in the fall.
They provide a myriad of different minors that all students can participate in. The minor I desire to learn at The University of Pennsylvania is Psychology. Psychology is something I am passionate to learn more about so that I may not only help physical injuries but also mental ones as well.
The argument about if college is worth it or not has been one of the biggest arguments throughout the media for decades. Students suffer a lot from the debts that they get from college and also the amount of studying that they do in college and when they graduate they ask themselves “is graduation from college really worth all the money that we paid and all the work that we have done?”
Working at Steel Pier has still got me going back for a new season every year; because I love the fact that I get a chance to bond with so many people who travel to the United States from the other side of the globe just to work. Rutgers is the same, but rather than working, students travel from all over the world to study and attend school. Every summer, I meet new imports and willingly become such good friends with them that when it’s time to say our goodbyes and farewells, it makes me tear up a little. Over the years I have acquired the ambition to travel and potentially study abroad. I believe Rutgers will give me the comforting feeling that Steel Pier has given me for as far back as three years. Dipping myself in the melting pot known as Rutgers University, will allow me to grow as an individual as I learn from my peers, while working towards a
Currently, I am attending Waynesburg College in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. majoring in computer science and minoring in business. I have always had a
As a junior in high school, I am forced to consider the possibilities for collegian studies. Boy, there are a lot. There’s approximately five thousand colleges including two and four year schools in the United States alone. This isn’t including the thousands of others in the world. Undoubtedly, I could go to a school in almost any continent, excluding the north and south poles. I could see the Amazon jungle, or the tropical reefs of Australia, or the bitter cold winters of Germany. The possibilities are endless! I want to travel so badly, I have even considered taking a year off, simply to travel; although, since then I have found that colleges also have exchange programs, and semesters abroad in which I could travel while continuing my schoolwork. Obviously, I learned a great amount about my personal future plans for
The Pennsylvania State University is one of the biggest state universities in the nation, with over 40,000 students currently enrolled in that university system. It is also a very old school, with its 150th birthday coming up in the year of 2005. Over the last one and a half century, Penn State has produced the most number of alumni in the world. In my major, meteorology alone, famous alumni such as Jon M. Nese, Greg Forbes, and Joe Bastardi are contributing their invaluable knowledge to the world in the science of meteorology. They are often seen in the national broadcasts. These are some of the major factors attracting perspective students to attend Penn State. Do you ever think about the cost of attending Penn State since Penn State is one of the most expensive public institutions in the United States?
I want to go to college for the wholesome intellectual stimulation and to get more involved with my community. College will be my last opportunity to do so before I enter the work force. At college I can be intellectually and academically challenged; I will be able to learn with friends who are as dedicated to learning and the pursuit of knowledge as I am. My goals in college are to acquire the skills that I need to lead a successful and productive life, to expand my knowledge of the world, to step out of my comfort zone, and to become more proactive.
A college education gives a person the opportunity to be successful in life, either financially or morally dependent on the goals that they set for their life. They will choose a college that offer programs for the major of their choice, where they will specialize and receive a degree. The decision to pursue a higher education will give the opportunity to earn a better income over someone who does not have a degree. College is more of life preparation course that will help make sure a successful career. If a person pursues a career in engineering, physics or mathematics their curriculum would include more liberal art preparation courses, in order for them to earn their degree, so someone pursuing a degree in these types of careers are attending college for job preparation. On December 10, 2009 at Hamilton University in Clinton, New York, college professors debated current college curriculum (Liew). They talked about how their college could make a leap from being good to being great. At the 22nd American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges conference held in Long Beach California on November 14, 1996 the topic of changing curriculum was discussed (“Mich”). The University of Louisiana, Lafayette, is eliminating its philosophy major, while Michigan State University is doing away with American studies and classics, after years of decline in enrollments in those majors (Zernike). The purpose of a college education is to meet the student's liberal art’s needs so that they can compete and understand the connection between a degree and a job that will enable them to compete with other world economies, give them a well-rounded education that will enable them to earn a higher income, and retain a lifetime full of knowledge.
Why do people say that, you should go to college after high school? Maybe to have a successful future. According to Dr. Michelle R. Weise, "community college is great if it helps you get a bachelor's degree, but only one in five students attending these institutions goes on to earn the degree within six years according to federal data. In addition, only 21% of first-time, full-time students earn an associate's degree within three years, and tuition is not the main obstacle to the completion of a degree for low-income students.” Dr. Michelle R. Weise, is a Senior Research Fellow at the Clayton Christensen Institute specializing in disruptive innovation in higher education. She co-authored a book with Clayton M. Christensen titled, Hire Education, showing how
The credit that I would fulfill doing this abroad program, an advanced Western Tradition, fits perfectly in my schedule and will help me be one step closer to my early graduation. Most obviously, studying abroad will also benefit my education by giving me a wider-range of knowledge. I will get the chance to talk to numerous people of different backgrounds, hearing what they have done in their life and how they got where they are.
Penn State University requires a high grade point average in order to go there. “ High School GPA (4.0 scale) 3.55-3.97”(Admission and University Statistics). As well as grade point average Penn State also evaluates class rank and test scores (“Admission and University Statistics”). Penn State is also an expensive university. The estimated total is $50,870 a year as an out of state student (“Penn State University Park”). The total cost for four years would be $203,480. I could defer the costs by getting a high GPA, applying for many scholarships, and being an RA. RA stands for resident assistant and they make sure everyone are following the rules of the dorm. Resident Assistants do not have to pay for their dorms so I could save money that way as well. In conclusion, Penn State is expensive and challenging to get accepted
Visiting Europe has been a long dream for me, especially visiting Italy. Italy has fascinated for as long as I can remember. Italian history and culture has always been intriguing to me ever since I learned about the Roman Empire in elementary school. I’ve always had Rome as my number one place I want to visit in the world. However, due to my financial status, I never had the chance to go to outside any country except the United States and my native country, Peru. Being in college has given me the opportunity to study abroad in a place I’ve always dreamed of. My university, Loyola University Chicago, have their own campus abroad in Rome, Vietnam and Beijing. Being already enrolled in the university, choosing to study abroad is facilitated as all my financial aid, including the university’s, and credits will transfer. I actually never planned on studying but the opportunity my university gave me to study in a place I’ve always wanted to go was too good for me to pass on. I
Educational Goals: Education is extremely important part of my past, present, and future goals. I currently hold an Associate of Applied Science in Graphic Design Media. I have found that an A.A.S Degree does not go as far al I originally intended in the Rochester, MN area and furthering my education will be a necessity for my future career goals. Over the past 2 years I have been working on my Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the Minnesota School of Business Rochester campus. I am currently a senior with 3 quarters left before a spring graduation. After a June graduation, I plan on taking a summer quarter break. After summer break I will either continue on at MSB for my Masters in Business Administration with a Minor in Marketing or transferring the University of Minnesota for my Masters in Adult Education. After my Masters Degree is complete I will decide at that time if I wish to continue on and achieve my Ph.D.
Success might be the best accolade for every student who works hard in school, but success is not attainable without people assisting you. Every person needs help at least once in their life and also at least once in their life they’d venture help from someone. After surpassing college, I will consider exerting community services while I’m waiting to be accepted for a job. I believe that my community assist me well enough to exceed college and I perceive that it is time for me to return the favor by just doing this simple duty.
Studying abroad can be one of the most rewarding experiences in a college’s students career. For many colleges, having their students can mean an increase in tuition, higher application rates, and overall better reviews by their students. According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, by Scott Olsen, “The Wall Street Journal reported last month that several small colleges are requiring students to pay full tuition even if the programs cost less, setting caps on the amount of financial aid sent abroad, and limiting how many students can participate”(5). Also, Olsen tells us “In the 2003-2004 school year, 7,208 students from Indiana universities went on study-abroad programs, according to the most recent statistics available from the Institute
