Visiting Europe has been a long dream for me, especially visiting Italy. Italy has fascinated for as long as I can remember. Italian history and culture has always been intriguing to me ever since I learned about the Roman Empire in elementary school. I’ve always had Rome as my number one place I want to visit in the world. Each city has its unique history and art that is fascinating which is the main reason I specifically chose to study in Italy. Not only would I visit Italy, but I’m interested in visiting Greece if my budget permits. Along with Italy, Greek history is one of my favorites. As a junior in high school, I am forced to consider the possibilities for collegian studies. Boy, there are a lot. There’s approximately five thousand colleges including two and four year schools in the United States alone. This isn’t including the thousands of others in the world. Undoubtedly, I could go to a school in almost any continent, excluding the north and south poles. I could see the Amazon jungle, or the tropical reefs of Australia, or the bitter cold winters of Germany. The possibilities are endless! I want to travel so badly, I have even considered taking a year off, simply to travel; although, since then I have found that colleges also have exchange programs, and semesters abroad in which I could travel while continuing my schoolwork. Obviously, I learned a great amount about my personal future plans for
Throughout most of my childhood, I always gravitated towards my Italian heritage more than any other of my birthrights. My great grandparents came to Lawrence, Massachusetts from Naples, Italy in search of a better life. They found it here in America by working in the factories and mills. Sadly, I only knew my great grandparents for a brief period of time before they all passed away. I thank them and her generation for taking us here, to the United States of America.

In the economically depressed world we live in today, the bottom line for students and parents when choosing a college is money. Although the thought of going off to college in the big city is both alluring and exciting, the price tag that goes along with it is not. Due to tighter wallets and budget cuts, students are beginning to re-consider their firm stance that they must go out of state for college. With all expenses considered, it is obvious that going to a local college is much cheaper than going to a university across the country. However, if your dream college is 3,000 miles away, there are many options that should be considered that will help pay for tuition, such as scholarships, loans, and working part-time. But even before this step, one must take into account every expense that goes along with that pricey college on the other side of the country; i.e. the application fee, room and board, and even the clothing required in that climate. All of these factors and more were considered when researching my two colleges, Arizona State University and New York University, and I determined that although ASU is the most financially viable, the education and pedigree I would receive attending NYU far outweighed the expensive tuition and other costs. Therefore, NYU, the more expensive school, is my first choice out of the two colleges. Although choosing a top college is an important step in the search process, planning on how to pay for it is the most important step.
