“Ask not what you can do for your country, ask what's for lunch” (Welles). Unfortunately, the answer to the question ‘whats for lunch’ is usually something that I personally do not enjoy nor want to eat. Instead of getting school lunch I either get a snack from the store, or just don’t eat at all. Obviously, this is not very good for my healthy consumption of the daily recommended food, but if I don’t like something I am not going to eat it unless I am starving. I know for a fact that I am not the only student who does this, many others don’t like/eat school lunch either. A way to help solve this problem is by letting us leave for our lunchtime. Washington High school and Roosevelt already let their students leave for lunch, it is beneficial to their schools because the school saves money on buying lunches. Thus, students can go home for lunch, or they can go out to eat and come to school with a full stomach ready to learn, not an empty …show more content…
Alas, it is very important that students are fed and have enough energy throughout the day, especially if they are in after school sports. Consequently, it can be very dangerous for students not to eat lunches and then go and do their sport. Lack of energy can cause you to faint, be extremely dizzy and other serious side effects. Even though the snacks in the school store are delicious and can fill you up for a few hours, they lack nutrition and won't give you the proper energy you need to stay focused in school. I don’t know how this would affect the school in a negative way, except that student may be tardy. Tardiness is a problem but so is not getting enough (or anything) to eat at lunch. The school could make a two strike rule, first tardy is a warning second is a detention. In conclusion, I think that the smartest option for our school is to allow its student to have open
Changes need to be made in American school systems. In fact, once American schools are reformed it would make it easier for those who want to learn receive an education. In the essay, “Lets’ Really Reform Our Schools” by Anita Garland, Garland explains why schools need to be reformed. Garland claims that American schools are in trouble and that they are a disaster. Garland also mentions that we need to restructure our thinking about the whole purpose of going to school and what one should expect from students. To start off, attendance shouldn’t be mandatory and one must stop forcing everyone to attend school. Next, cafeteria lunch is always a big problems with students. Students are hyped up with all
Schools are meant to give our children a healthy and nurturing environment, and yet so much of the lunches in schools are fattening; does this stop schools from achieving the aforementioned goal? Childhood obesity in the United Sates continues to be a growing problem despite so any new programs to help combat it, and new research is showing how schools may be playing a large role in childhood obesity. School lunches are showing to be the problem, they encourage poor nutrition in our nation’s students, and simple reform is proving to not be enough to stop the rise in obesity rates.
has to spend more money on changing school lunch system from eliminating unnecessary spending portion of system and create farming class. As reported by Cooper, “ The National School Lunch Program needs 8 billion dollars to feed 30 million children a year to serve high quality foods.” However, this price of amount has to be double to serve healthy foods to students because our next generation has to grow up with high quality foods not with low quality foods. Moreover, according to Cooper, the U.S. spends more than 100 million dollars on fast foods portion which the U.S. suppose to spend less amount of money on fast foods to improve the entire food system of the country. If the U.S. government lower the expense of fast food system and raises the amount of money for school lunches, entire schools of the U.S. would get positive results. For example, students could brainstorm very fast as Albert Einstein, and gain more energy to work out on their gym classes. Furthermore, school have to create agriculture class for students to have strong knowledges in foods. Students can literally be ware of what they eat at their lunch times; they will know vegetables grow in the ground and how foods are really fresh. Therefore, schools must provide farming class as in Berkeley; students have rights to know how foods are important to them. As a result, students could get a lot of benefits for changing school
As discussed throughout this paper there has been controversy about Michelle Obama’s school lunch guidelines. The reader has heard multiple arguments developed from this topic from each viewpoint expressed in this dispute. Now it is up to them to take a side. This paper is about Michelle Obama’s school lunch guidelines and how they are affecting schools and students across the nation. To help reduce the number of overweight children in America, Michelle Obama made lunch regulations schools had to follow and sparked a widespread conflict.
Allowing healthier school lunches will decrease obesity in children because it will give them the proper nutrition to reduce the risk of health issues. Since obesity causes many health issues, maintaining a proper nutrition will reduce the risk of health issues. According to Star- Telegram, a daily newspaper that serves Fort Worth and areas of North Texas states, “[School lunches that have] a meal of pizza sticks, a banana, raisins and whole milk has given way to whole wheat spaghetti with meat sauce, a whole wheat roll green beans, broccoli, cauliflower, kiwi and low-fat milk … This change will help more than 2.4 million Texas students who receive a free or reduced- price school lunch to lead healthier, more active lives—in and out of the classroom”(Par. 2 and 4). School lunches are supposed to guarantee students a well balance meal, so they can have the energy to proceed with their classes throughout the day. Meanwhile, students who receive a f...
The intake of proper nutrients helps balance the maintenance of bodily functions; supporting the longevity of a healthy lifestyle. (Denton, Carolyn. “How does food Impact Health?” www.takingcharge.csh.umn.edu). With constant technological advance in the world, it is important to become aware of how frequent the world changes daily in preparation for self-maturity. What is a more effective way to approach the real world than to have a direct experience? The researcher will address the topic on why community high schools in America should allow its students off campus during lunch. Allowing children to have a better lunch option could help educational strength as well as attend to other essential needs. (Anderson, Melinda. “Do healthy lunches
This is not the first time the U.S. has faced problems with the health of the nation. In 1946, President Harry S. Truman signed the National School Lunch Act. This legislation came in response to claims that many American men were rejected for military service due to diet related health issues. School lunch was established as “a measure of national security, to safeguard the health and well-being of the nation’s children and to encourage the domestic consumption of nutritious agricultural commodities and other food (Gunderson, 2013).”

This could result in terrible grades. Also, this would interfere with extra-curricular actives, such as sports. With less time to do homework, students might not be able to do sports, and would become unhealthy. Students can get bullied for their weight or size. Others might not think they are comely. Also, with less time to do work, students can get terrible grades. The consequences of long lunches are unacceptable. We cannot do
With the implementation of the “Healthy Kids Hunger-Free Act” schools are not serving as many lunches and participation is decreasing. According to the Government Accountability Office (GOA), “Nationwide, student participation declined by 1.2 million students(or 3.7 percent) from school year 2010-2011 through school year 2012-2013, after having increased steadily for many years”(sec. 1). The school lunches became more distasteful and bland; the combinations of foods did not make sense, and the portion sizes decreased significantly. In order to support the cafeteria
What could be a good solution to our school lunches to help children get the right food is, maybe do what Japan does for their lunches, make them from scratch, have longer lunch breaks and treat children equally who aren’t as financially stable as others. In an article, “What Japan Can Teach Us About School Lunches” by Dana Woldow, Japanese students learned the, “you get what you pay for” motto. Also, Japan doesn’t have 15 minute lunch breaks; they have almost an hour lunch break. Woldow concludes that, “High quality healthy food costs more than cheap processed junk…food is not promoted by a 15 minute lunch break; and no one benefits when school lunch policies segregate students by income” (Woldow). Woldow says that until America is willing to invest these kinds of changes in school meals, our school meals will lag behind other countries and continue to have the highest obesity rate in children. So either start making changes, or maybe to start off simple, remove vending
Most schools want their students to be able to do their best in school. Wouldn’t it be an excellent idea if schools bans foods that might help students focus and have more success in school? Common sense is that whatever means will be used to help our students reach their full potential. For some students, a small snack in the middle of the morning would benefit their energy and ability to learn. If students have more energy, than school might be more interesting to them.
American students what to have more food in school lunches. Also students are protesting to have more food in lunch. Many students have struggle with the school lunches and don’t eat. For instance students can get sick without not eating
Children nibbling on carrot sticks and sitting with folded napkins would be picturesque when walking into any American lunchroom. But more often than not, we see individuals scarfing down a pack of Pringles in between broken conversations. Although nutrition mandates have piled up in the past few years, effects have been underwhelming. This is largely due to the manner in which students are fed. An obvious next step would be to increase the time given for lunch, bettering children’s health, teaching social skills, and improving academics.
Who doesn't like food ? Should kids really have to wait hours for a snack ? Schools say they want to shape kids healthy , but are they really ? Food plays a big role in the daily lives of young people . Snacking is very important for children . They have much smaller stomachs compared to an adults . It's obvious that they need more food during the whole school day than just mid-day , lunchtime . Kids can never eat enough to stay full on one meal . Even if students were to eat breakfast , they still need to wait three to five hours to have “ lunch ” . If you were to search on how to have a proper nutrition you will conclude that you need frequent snacks and hydration . Throughout the day snacks help students learn about eating habits , of course the healthy way !
