Why Is Stem Cell Important

899 Words2 Pages

Scientists believe that stem cell has an incredible potential to develop into many different cell types in the body throughout early life and growth. With all the controversy surrounding studies of stem cells, people miss the importance and benefits of stem cell use and how beneficial it is in the medical field. Stem cells have many applications for treating diseases and the potential to treat even more diseases in the future which scientist are working on. There are many benefits of using stem cell, there is a few studies that show to have been successful and has helped. With stem cells, you have the potential to reverse diseases, like heart attacks, Parkinson’s disease, and genetic defects. Stem cells can be used for laboratory growth of …show more content…

Normally there are very small amounts of stem cells in tissues, and once they are removed from the body, their size to divide are limited, which are making the generation of large amounts of stem cells difficult. In laboratories, many scientists are finding better ways to grow large quantities of adult stem cells in cell culture and to control or manipulate the stem cells to make specific cell types so they can be used to treat diseases, and injuries. Some potential treatments include repairing heart muscles, diabetes, cancer, aids, and more. Some test that is used to identify adult stem cells is by leveling the cells in a living tissue with molecular markers and then they define the specialized cell type that was produced. Another way is they remove cells from a living organism, like an animal and label it in the cell culture. Then they transplant them back into another live animal to see if the cells replace their tissue of the origin. This procedure must establish that a single adult stem cell can produce a line of genetically identical cells that then gives intensification to all the appropriate distinguished cell types of the
