In the documents, the authors Zagacki and Grano (2005) and Solberg (2007) the have the same idea that sports radio and sports broadcasting is a good thing but have different ideas on how they help. This is why sports radio and sports broadcasting is a good thing. The main thing is though that there is not a way to determine which article is better because both offer the same similarity and in that similarity there is a huge difference. Solberg (2007) explains that in Australia, fans that listen to sports broadcasting have a chance to shoot for something and work towards a goal of becoming an athlete. Sport broadcasting offers a way, that if you do not live in Australia or if you do live there and are away from home, that you can get information …show more content…
This allows the viewer to practice and almost participate with who they are watching. Solberg (2007) also says that this is a form of exercise which is a lot different than what happens in the U.S. because most people besides maybe kids and people, who play the sport they are watching, here do not watch what happens on television and practice the action. Anything that offers exercise is a great thing for anybody taking the time or just having fun acting like their favorite player. Zagacki and Grano (2005) also agree with Solberg (2007) in the fact that sports’ broadcasting is a great way for the fans to get involved and that is a way to hear about how a sport needs to change or how bad/ good it is. This feedback is important to sports because ultimately it is for the fans. The more people that watch and feel like their opinion matter. Is the more money you make because this brings people to the stadium. “Sports talk shows, in particular, open a public space where the ideas and attitudes of ordinary people seem to matter” (Zagacki and Grano 2005, pg.
I want to be sportscaster when I grow up because I would like to discuss events with proffesionals. I also couldn’t see myself in life without being connected to sports. Also it seems really cool to be a sportscaster at ESPN because it looks like a cool place to work there.
Doing the correct research before going to air is key because it tells the viewer that the broadcaster knows what they are talking about. The key word here is correct research, not just any research. A sports broadcaster wants their viewers to think and view sports in a different way. The ESPN radio crew from Cleveland named “WKNR” makes the same point as
Sport is the new Opiate of the Masses it behaves in the same way religion does as it is used as a deterrent from our everyday lives. Religion main function is to preserve the status quo, which means that it serves the “haves” and keeps the “have-nots” down in their place. Sport may be very different from
Sports really shape our society, and culture. You will not find very many people who do not have some love for at least one sport or another. There are so many sports out there that people love and will always watch the sport of their choice.
As an athlete or a spectator, it is easy to both feel and see the impact sports have on people of both genders. Athletes are able to experience sports personally, while spectators usually experience sports through different channels of mass media. Realizing the effects that the world of athletics has on individuals and society as a whole is vital to the understanding of how sports can positively and negatively effect athletes as well as spectators.
Sports are an important aspect of society. They help people to strive to reach certain goals and join people together, but they also can divide people and turn a fun game into the main purpose of someone’s life. Taking sports games too seriously can be harmful to both the athlete and the spectator. The attitude of always winning at any cost in sports has managed to distract us from other important parts of our lives, such as health and education. This importance of the value of sports can heavily influence the way that we see ourselves as both the spectator and the athlete by creating a positive self image and distilling confidence and discipline within the player, or by embedding self doubt and inversion.
...rial in the way that they do. There are many reasons why people use the media or different medium to view the same media. Those reasons are the uses and gratification model provided by McQuail, Blumler, and Brown. People want to get a fulfillment after watching a show or in this case a sports broadcast. They wanted to achieve something like making sure there team is doing well or all the players are healthy. In case of ESPN there are two ways to view this information. The viewer can either watch the broadcast and be entertained by the broadcasters and see the plays. Or the viewer can take the more direct route by going to www.msn.espn.go.com and getting the exact same information only with more detailed. Either way the viewer is accomplishing something it could be bonding with a child, conversing with co-workers, or just being aware of the sports world around them.
Sports are an important part of our world. Take a look at any newspaper, listen to any radio, or watch TV for any length of time and there will surely be some sports information that is being passed along. The fact that sports figures get paid salaries that teachers can only dream about lets us know where our priorities lie in this society. Sports consume a lot of our time and energy, and because of this, they have great influence in our culture.
influence of mass media on sport : Influences of Mass Media in Sport When communication is spread not just between two individuals but rather between tens of millions of people it is known as mass media. Mass media is known as the central nervous system of society. "Mass media has many different purposes, such as providing information, entertaining, persuading and also by carrying a vague general function of culture to millions of people."(Frederick 18). In order for mass media to exist, there must be an audience. Today's society is very selective; each receiver reacts differently through his or her own experience and orientation according to mass media. Therefore, mass media exists in many different forms such as magazines, television, newspapers, internet, motion pictures, and even plays.
Sports are apart of human society, for centuries it has been difficult to conceive of any human civilization consisting entirely of work, education, relationships, and entertainment alone. The media plays a major role in the way society views sports today. As time has evolved sports have become apart of the American culture. The does not only influence the sport at hand but it also affects the way that societies sees the athletes. Most believe that since athletes are paid outrageous amounts of money they are considered to be role models to younger generations. The way that the athlete lives his or her life heavily influences the way the media will portray them.
As entertainers, athletes are paid for fan satisfaction. The more fans that want to see an athlete perform, the more the athlete is paid. In fact, most athletes, even those who make millions of dollars for each flubbed fly ball, dropped pass, and missed free throw, feel they probably deserve even higher salaries; the reason being that they’re still in demand. While certain athletes may never bring a championship ring to their team, or even bring home a winning season, those athletes will always pack the stands. Fans in the stands translate into ticket sales. Ticket sales can potentially lead to national television broadcasts. Inevitably, the formula of ticket sales plus national television broadcasts leads to massive revenue, and this is how owners and organizations can afford to pay players like Michael Jordan $25 Million for his retiring season alone. However, how does society (as a whole) benefit from these over-inflated salaries? In short, it doesn’t.
The economic impact of media sports illustrates the central importance of our culture. For example: Statistics show that Americans spend more than $60 billion annually on sports (it is between 1% and 2% of Gross National Product). Being a star in media sports in America means receiving a temporary income of 6 or 7 figures. Personal Identification and Heroes Sports fans often identify themselves with teams, players, and regions so that outcome takes on personal significance to them.... ...
Sports are loved by many people, it is not just a game to these people it is a way of life, the industry entertains society and gives them an escape from the norms of life. The continuing growth of the sports industry creates more jobs for people which keeps the economy strong and fewer people from unemployment
In conclusion, it is explicit that sports is a positive influence on athletes, spectators and the world as a whole as it teaches imperative life lessons as well as allows its participants to experience enjoyment, fulfilment and gratification. As mentioned previously sports enables its players to bring out the best in others and create unity amongst groups as team work is so essential. This highlights the views I have in conjunction with the views of Joe Humphrey.
The main goals behind Sport Education are to help students become knowledgeable about different sports and activities to the point where they can participate in these outside of the classroom to stay active. Also it teaches execution and strategies and encourages competitiveness. It is important for kids to be competitive because they will have to be in life and it will teach the importance of winning and losing the right way. “Sports offer kids a great chance to work cooperatively toward a common goal. And working coope...
