Most athletes want to be able to perform as well as they can when they are about to play a sport. Mentally and physically players have to prepare themselves for what may take place throughout the game. Some important aspects of being prepared for a game are equipment, conditioning, nutrition, skill, focus, and heart to want to win. When players do exactly what they know how, and to their best abilities sometimes that still doesn’t guarantee a win. For starters, the players need to be properly equipped in order to play with cleats, socks, jersey, and shin guards. Being equipped properly is very important because if a player has earrings in still their coach could be carded for not having his or her team correctly equipped. They also need …show more content…
In our high school girls soccer practices, we sometimes have girls who mess around then wonder why they weren’t able to stop the other team from scoring. Players need to always listen to what their coaches tell them. Constructive criticism is okay, but as an athlete they need to not take offense to it and not get butthurt from what they are told but to build from what they are being told. Paying attention when someone is teaching is very key in performing well too. You can never know too much about anything. Even if they listen to their coaches every word it doesn’t guarantee a win either unfortunately. Lastly, the number one thing that can take one athlete above another when he or she has the same skill level is the amount of heart they have in the sport. When players have heart in the game they have the drive to go get the ball and not give up till they get it. They will push harder and farther even when they think they couldn’t push any farther. When players get tired and there is a breakaway will they stay back and watch the other team score or will they fight past the tiredness and stop them from scoring. Having heart in the game can take the player to the next level and can crush any
In order to see outcomes in this area of improvement, we as coaches must re-evaluate not only our athletes, but, in addition, our coaching styles. Of course, we all want to tell ourselves that we are great coaches and it's the athletes who are not following direction...
... and motivation to prepare athletes for competitive events and gain strength to get back to competing. Many times, they will conduct training camps, skill improvement courses, clinics, preseason workouts and tryouts, and training programs based on teams and individuals in specific sports.
The example of an athlete is adapted to clarify this belief. If one wants to be a star athlete, then it is important for one to train properly and work hard before the event. Supposing that one does not prepare for the event, then the expectation sh...
The only reason some athletes make it to college is due to scholarships for their performance on the field. If they don’t perform well on the field, that scholarship might get cut. This makes practicing the athletes a main priority. However, college athletes have to concentrate on their grades so they don’t drop out of college. These athletes know they may not make it to the pro’s, so they know they have to have a back-up plan.
High school coaches been sworn at called names and physically threatened by parents before, during, and after the games. Playing time is often at the root of the problem though sometimes a parent is outraged that their son or daughter isn’t being played at what the parent thinks is their child’s best position (Nolan). In addition, equal playing time is important because it developed every player skills.(Nicole). Take, for instance, the case of a young player who has never played for a club before. He’s 11 and charges around the place without being able to control the ball or kick. Many of his teammates didn’t think he should play for their team but the coach has been working with him and one day he wanted to let him play and believe it or not he did very well for his first game that he even made a goal for the team (David). The best thing to do whenever you’re in a sport is that the coaches
Hours before a match, athletes in all corners of the world tend to freak out due to all the psychological factors that accompany performance in sports. Stop for a quick second and imagine becoming a Manchester United Striker or a Denver Broncos Wide-Receiver. For those who did not know already, these two positions are among the hardest in the sports world to play. Not only must the person assigned to these positions stay up until the early hours of the morning studying plays and formations so they might better assist their team come match day, but they also act as the main way the teams they play for get any points. If the expectation of being the team’s top scorers isn’t enough, they must also act as an inspiration to every other teammate that plays alongside them. Even though most people say psychological factors have no effect on an athlete’s performance in sport, athletes are negatively affected by the psychological aspects because of pre-game jitters they may experience, the relationship each athlete has with the stadium crowd, and the toll each match has on the athletes’ bodies.
You have to consider Nutrition, exercise, practice and their mental state. If you learn to balance this a player will be able to reach a goal. If it’s kicking a soccer ball into a goal, or scoring a touchdown. It comes down to how did you perform? Of course with performance there has to be strength and with strength comes conditioning.
You already know that being an athlete is hard work and lets not forget living up to others expectations in school. The day of your game you know that you have a big test the next day but also cant let your team and coach down. That means you are a rock stuck in

The age of overwhelming strength and stamina governing sports is over, and the age of the mentally tough athlete has arrived. These pressures can inhibit an athlete’s performance substantially; therefore, the pressures need to be dealt with by psychologists. The effectiveness of sports psychology is demonstrated through the fields many theories, applications, and variety of techniques and procedures.
Despite the varying demands each sport has, preparation for football and basketball essentially utilizes identical plans. In the offseason, the two positions spend the majority of their time working out and preparing for the upcoming season. There are a diverse number of approaches and techniques to prepare for the future, but players generally take on indistinguishable plans. A very important part of preparing for the next season is to work out muscles. However workouts can not be inconsistent and easy, it is essential for all workouts to be persistent and intense; they must also include all muscles in the body. In addition to increasing muscles, endurance and stamina must also be heightened. Running in general is the most preferred way to increase stamina. Players from these positions also spend a great deal of time going over old plays and learning to execute new ones. The precision of a play is mandatory for professional sports. The quarterback and point guard must also get
Children fail multiple times while they are participating in drills, practices, and competitions in soccer. In the face of failure children make attributions, otherwise defined as explanations (10/11/17). Coaches can help the children with the attributions about failures because they are able to provide a social scaffolding on why the failures may have occurred and how to motivate the children to not give up in the face of failure. The primary attribution that coaches can aid children in is the unstable attribution. An unstable attribution is due to things that are likely to change in the future (10/11/17). In the face of failure children make these attributions, soccer coaches are able to help the children through these failures and attributions because they can alter their coaching style to tailor to each child. They can design more drills to help the children learn in new ways and they can also give more positive feedback to the children during practices and competition to increase the children’s success. Coaches can allow practice of new skills on a daily basis to help with the unstable attributions because they can help control what is likely to change in the children’s performance in the future. They can help encourage children to continue to practice on their own outside of practice to improve their success in practices and competitions. There are two patterns of motivation in response to failure,
Sports psychology continues to evolve in order to ensure that comprehensive and evidence-based psychological services are available for athletes and teams. Giving athletes an understanding of their psychological functioning, and building the ability to implement a range of psychological strategies in competition enables athletes to both execute their skills and thrive under pressure as they strive to reach their performance potential.
Motivate the motivation, simple words that can mean some much to an athlete, but what is motivation really? In the games and sports, psychological and physiological factors play an important role in determining the performance level (Grange & Kerr, 2010; Schilling & Hyashi, 2001). Motivation also plays an important role in determining the performance level an athlete, but plays a role in the psychological and physiological factors as well. Motivation is more than a behavior or idea, it is an impact on how we interact with others, how we process defeat, feel, and how we play. Motivation will not only help an athlete get the starting position or gain an award but more importantly, help an athlete reach their potential. Motivation like most things
