Although Google seems to be the perfect job, having a significantly high job satisfaction and is proven to be the best company to work for, they are having problems retaining numerous of their talented employees. Google’s motivation tactics could be altered to help keep their employees from walking out and creating their own companies.

Employees seem to love their job and their work environment, which demonstrates McGregor’s Theory Y in some ways. On the other hand, for some Googlers, this isn’t enough. Some wish to bring their ideas to start their own company. Google expects them to do all of the hard work, gives them a big fat check, but in the end it’s Google’s product. Employees want to be recognized and applauded for their tedious work, not just give Google the ownership. When employees started leaving, Google offered raises and promotions, but they weren’t interested in that. What Googlers really want is credit for their hard work, and support. Google should strive to practice aspects of employee recognition programs so they feel important in the company. Google managers should use McClelland’s Three-Needs Theory. The Need for Achievement drives employees to succeed and excel in relation to a set of standards. Employees strive for personal achievement rather than rewards such as money and promotions. In a business or a workplace, it is essential for the organization, which consists of the employers, the managers, and their employees, to work towards reward programs within the human resources in order to create a healthy and cordial work environment and most importantly, to efficiently achieve business’ goals. In Carol Patton’s (2013) article, Rewarding Best Behaviors, she explains the importance of several companies that are beginning to recognize their employees, not just for the end-results, but for reflecting good behaviors towards the business’ values, such as demonstrating creativity on certain projects, problem solving towards certain issues, and also collaborating with fellow co-workers. Patton stresses that these reward programs could help suffice the overall being of a company as long as the rewarded behaviors correlate with the corporate strategy. Patton expresses that some things human resources must comprehend include “how its company creates success, what drives its business strategy and what behaviors are needed from employees to achieve that success” (Patton, 2013 para. 15). Moreover, the employee would be reflected as a role model for others and perhaps influence them to demonstrate comparable behaviors.
Organizations face massive challenges in attracting and retaining a high-quality and productive workforce. Companies are continually looking for new ways to keep their employees satisfied at all levels in order to harness greater productivity and ideas from people while keeping them motivated and happy. Successful organizations realize employee retention and talent management is integral to sustaining their leadership and growth in the market place. The focus of this group project is on worker retention strategies. Worker retention strategies are programs designed to preserve existing quality workers by providing benefits and incentives. These benefits and incentives are provided to employees in various ways. Our group chose to explore six organizations in three different industries. These industries include Retail, Package shipping, and Airlines. Through research and investigation of three major industries we were able to develop a comparison of how these major organizations retain quality workers. First, we explore and learn how to keep people motivate to stop turnover within an organization. Secondly, we investigate employer’s benefits and incentive programs to keep quality employees. Finally, we examine workforce motivation and the engagement to commitment as organizations continually change initiatives and strategic planning.
