Why Is Football Important To Me

Football is and always has been more than just a game to me. I have learned so many life lessons from this game and have formed bonds with many of my teammates that will last a lifetime. The lessons that I picked up from playing football are lessons that I’m sure I would not have had the privilege of learning had I never played. The most important lesson that I have learned is that when things aren't going your way, you cannot allow yourself to give up. There are countless times throughout the course of a football game when you get knocked down and when everything inside of you is telling you to stay down. The trust that is necessary within a team to be successful in itself has made me closer to my teammates than anyone else in my life. You have to trust that every single man, offensively and defensively will perform their individual duty on each play to allow the team to work as a whole. This not only teaches you how to trust your peers, but it also teaches you how to successfully work in a group setting, which can be easily correlated to life and education in college and beyond. This trust forces you to build connections with teammates that leads to you being willing to sacrifice parts of yourself to see the team succeed. When you mix some of these lessons of trust with the sheer amount of time that you spend with these people on a daily basis, you are naturally gifted with some of the best friends and friendships anyone could ever ask for. I believe that football not only has molded me into the person that I am today not only from the lessons it teaches you, but also because of the friendships that it has gifted to me. To describe myself in a way to anyone, let alone an educational institution that I am interested in potentially pursuing, without mentioning the game of football would just not do myself justice. I feel that my application would not only be incomplete without me discussing the impact football has made on me, but I feel that I could not accurately describe myself without mentioning it.
