The profession of child and youth care worker is something that I am very interested in becoming as it is a job that is both accomplishing and hardworking. Personally, it was difficult for me to decide what I wanted to do with my future but I know I wanted to help people. I constantly changed my mind when it came to picking a profession. I shifted from paramedic, to nurse, to vet technician, to therapist, and lastly social worker. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to work with youth as well as help counsel troubled youth who have become strayed from society. While looking through college programs and doing research, the child and youth care profession seemed to be the perfect fit for me. For starters, what they do for the youth of Toronto is very aspiring and they have many successful programs to help homeless youth achieve an optimistic life. My long-term goal is to become a certified Child and Youth Care Worker and from their I hope to gain experience in the field and be able to utilize my skills and gain knowledge that can help me in the future. I also want to become more involved within the community so that I am more connected to people and the society they (we) live in. The strengths that I bring to the organization is that I have great listening and interpersonal skills. I also know a great deal about different cultures which can be helpful when working with either newcomers or youth of different diversities.
