Health and Human services, Family Support Worker So I’ve decided to become a family support worker. The reason why I'm so interested in this specific job position is because I'm all about women empowerment. It amazes me to see single mothers raising their children by themselves with not a lot of help. I love helping people in general. Family support workers are social services professionals who provide assistance and guidance to children and families in need. They work in settings such as foster care or adoption agencies, child protective services agencies or family services organizations (The Career of a Family Support Worker, 2018). From the time a child enters preschool, teachers begin asking a common question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” That dreaded query has always haunted me, mostly because the way it was redundantly asked put a ton of pressure on me and my peers. The question was like a rusty nail being hammered into our head’s by society. I continuously had the cliché answers of becoming a doctor, teacher, or a police officer, but with serious reservations. After years of not having a clue, I started to think about what I like to do after the stresses of work and school were gone at the end of the day.
I would like to be a police community support officer because I want to further my opportunities to work for a police department and support the communities in which I live. I feel I can serve my community in a positive manner with the upmost respect and honor. I hope I will be able to gain valuable experience that will help me in my future, both as an individual and as a professional. This opportunity will help give me an insight to the internal workings for the town of Plainfield and the opportunity to learn more about the individuals that live within the community. I have always been interested in working with children. Becoming a teacher has always been a potential career path for me; however, I recently discovered the position of a child life specialist which has further broadened my interest for a future career. Although they are not educators in school, they are extremely important since they are the educators for children and their families to help overcome difficult and/or challenging life events. As a child life specialist I will be teaching children and families in hospitals how to cope with their diagnoses, how a surgery day will go, how certain lifestyles will have to change, and much more.
This profession suits me well due to the fact that this profession requires a person who is sociable, empathetic and can handle adversity with positivity. People who have known me my whole life know that I am utterly understanding of other people's differences, lifestyles and what they are going through
Social work as a profession strives to help the welfare of those within the community whether its persons or families through advocacy. Often times clients are those who may be vulnerable and disadvantaged. Social workers aim to help people fulfill basic needs in their everyday lives and assist them by providing beneficial resources and intervention counseling. They do more than just help them in their current situation, it’s about helping them to survive and set attainable goals to live a fuller and better life for themselves, and most time for their families.
1. Many people have multiple reasons why they want to be able to help others in their everyday jobs. My attraction to being a Speech Language Pathologist is because I want to be able to people overcome their speech problems. As a Speech Language Pathologist I want to be able to help people that have speech problems, overcome this problem and be able to be independent without needing the help of myself or other people that are trying to talk to them. I personally know their feelings and have actually been in their shoes to know how frustrating life can be trying to talk and have someone else talk for you.
My current job as a Behavioral Intervention Specialist for Bakersfield City School District has motivated me to pursue my masters in social work. Working with troubled students on a daily basis has allowed me to see the great need for social workers at schools. Many students are not successful in school due to their emotional and social issues in their daily lives. I want to be a professional social worker so I can better understand behavior, trauma, and learn of more ways to assist the students at my school. I truly feel The Master of Social Work (MSW) program will prepare me to help create that change in the schools that is desperately needed.
My motivation to be a social worker initially came up by my aunt. Since childhood, I realized that my aunt, a Macanese, was a deaf. Even though our conversation relied on a pen and pieces of paper, we had tight relationship. Unfortunately, my aunt split from his husband spontaneously due to my uncle’s adultery. After that, aunt lost her interest in everything, even making communication with their children. She persistently felt anxious and got hallucination lately. When I was in high school, my aunt was diagnosed as suffering from depression, a seriously one. For quite a long period, my mother stayed at Macau to accompany with my aunt. At that time, I wrote many letters to her on the grounds that I believed words could deliver positive energy. Subsequently, my letters seemed to cut ice with my aunt. She told me that reading my letters could ease her anxiety and enhanced her to stay positive in a day.

Child welfare is a segment of social work that is vital to the health and stability of the children and families in our society. The main reason I chose the social work profession, manifested early within my stages of childhood. The importance of giving to and caring for those in need, were deeply embedded in my very soul. Being reared by my grandmother, a nurse and by my teenage mother, a psychology student, I was exposed constantly to acts of kindness and generosity. As a result to my empathetic personality, I was welcomed into many social and ethnic groups, not commonly open to a young gay black male. In these younger years with the assistance of my parents, my love for others allowed me to help other teenagers in crisis, often providing shelter, advice, monetary assistance and a listening
My interest in social work stems from a love of volunteering that I possessed ever since I was a young child expressing great enthusiasm for church and school service events. As I grew older, I began volunteering for many other community events, such as serving over 200 hours at a local hospital, helping with free cancer screenings, and fitting children with free bike helmets. I even created my own donation drive for a local women’s and children’s shelter. I feel the best when I am striving to create positive changes in my community and for struggling, marginalized individuals. Social services have been a part of my life for a very long time, and I want it to continue to be on a professional level.
