As my resume indicates, I possess more than two years of experience with federal, state, and local legislation. My professional history includes a position with the Associated Students of Washington State University where I served as a Senator during the 45th and 46th senate. I also bring experience from a variety of university departments such as Residence Life, Housing, New Student Programs, and Student Involvement, which have provided me with additional information regarding how departments function, the needs of students, and the process of policy implementation. Most recently, my responsibilities as a Senator with the Associated Students of Washington State University match the experience needed to get a productive, long-lasting start to the position at hand. As a Senator, my responsibilities include interacting with constituents, university officials, and legislators, maintaining active knowledge of past, current, and pending legislation, and producing or supporting resolutions in reaction to legislation or governmental actions. One important duty of the Vice President of Legislative Affairs is chairing the Legislative Affairs Committee. I bring the necessary experience to complete that task. Throughout the 45th senate I served as a member of the external committee, and transitioned to vice-chair this year. In this role I help facilitate the meetings and run them myself in the absence of the chair. Serving as a senator has …show more content…

In the words of Claiborne Pell, U.S. Senator of Rhode Island and sponsor of the Pell Grant, which provides financial aid to American college students, “The strength of the United States is not the gold at Fort Knox or the weapons of mass destruction that we have, but the sum total of the education and the character of our people.” These words speak of the importance of education and the need for public support in order to continue America’s tradition of investment in our youth being an investment in our country.

Some call me argumentative- I prefer the term dialectical. It is true, I enjoy debates more than the average person. Nothing compares to the thrill of triumphantly dispelling an opponent’s case and swaying an audience to my side. On top of that, I have a sincere appreciation and talent for writing, reading comprehension, and grammar. With these attributes, I feel destined for a career in law. Yet, it is more than just my personal tastes that have led to my interest in legal services. Growing up with a disorder, I have developed empathy for people with disabilities and a desire to help them by advocating for their rights. As a lawyer, I hope to take action to make the world a better place to live in for people with conditions similar- and maybe not so similar- to mine.
