Being a Mortician The word mortician brings what images to mind? The career of a mortician is surprisingly different than it is portraied in movies and books. Being a mortician is a very rewarding job both personal as well as psychological to those with the temperament, training and discipline required to do the job properly. In this paper I'll be reporting the requirements to become a mortician, also called funeral director or undertaker, the duties the job requires of you, and the outlook of this career in the future of the United States. To become a funeral director in the United States today isn't an easy task. You need to be twenty-one, a high school graduate with some undergraduate college work, as well as at least one year of professional training in mortuary science, and completion of an apprenticeship. "Upon completing a state board licensing exam, new funeral directors are qualified to join the staff of a funeral home. In many states successful completion of a national examination given by the National Conference of Examining boards will qualify you for licensure"(IRN 10). In different states the undergraduate college credit varies considerably, one-third of the states require one year; another third wants two years; and the other third requires three years of credit(IRN 9). A concentration of courses is also required in some of the states. You may need to take 15 credits in natural science, 13 in social sciences, 13 in business, 14 in chemistry(IRN 10). In addition to your college work, you will need at least 50 credit hours of professional work in mortuary science. "There are about 40 schools of mortuary science officially recognized by the U.S. Department of Education today"(Shipley 220). The curriculum generally consists of courses in: "Embalming, Restorative Art, Chemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Anatomy, Small Business Management, Funeral Home management, Merchandising, Accounting, Funeral Home Law, Computers, History and sociology of Funeral Service, Psychology of Grief, Grief Counseling, oral and Written Communication, Funeral Service Law, Business Law, and Ethics"(IRN 11). Along with educational requirements you need to look at the personal requirements it takes to be a funeral director. You have to be on call 24-hours a day 7 days a week, deat... ... middle of paper ... ... no background in the profession(CGP 3). The field is highly secure and recession proof. Chances are that if you are temperamentally matched to the requirements of the work and like your job, you will have few worries about security. Most funeral directors stay with their employers for many years and there is relatively little turnover in the field(IRN 12). The earnings as a funeral director greatly depends on the area of the country in which you are employed, the size of the funeral home at which you work and the number of cases handled. Also, your salary will depend upon whether your community in unionized or not(generally union contracts call for higher salaries and more generous benefits)(IRN 20). Average salaries, including bonuses, for owner-managers are about $60,000 annually. Midlevel managers averaged $40,000. Embalmers earn average salaries of $30,000 and apprentices average $20,000(IRN 21). In conclusion, the career as a mortician is very emotionally and physically challenging, but is a very secure future. Chances are if you set out to be a mortician and make it through the schooling you will find a secure job someplace and be set for life.
Morbid Funeral Home, Inc. is an accrual basis taxpayer who sells preneed funeral contracts. Customers pay Morbid in advance for goods and services to be provided at the contract beneficiary’s death. Under state law the payments are refundable if the contract purchaser requests them any time until the goods and services are furnished. Morbid, for both financial and tax accounting purposes, includes the payments in income for the year the funeral service is provided. Morbid insists that the amounts it receives under the contracts are customer deposits. The IRS agent insists that the payments are prepaid income that is subject to tax in the year of receipt.
The following career I have chosen describes who I am, where I want to go, and what I want to accomplish in the near future.
What are your short-term career goals? In what way(s) do you believe a White House internship would impact these goals? *
This problem begins with Descartes need to get rid of this evil demon that could potential deceive us. This evil demon came about from the Cartesian Doubt method, where Descartes finds the source of a belief, a reason to doubt that belief, and then immunity to that doubt. When Descartes reaches the source of belief in mathematics, due to it’s absolute certainty, his only reason to doubt such a certain belief would be that there is such a thing like an evil demon that exists who is deceiving our perceptions. Therefore, in order to prove that God exists and doesn’t deceive us, he needs to prove there is no e...

At this point Descartes has yet to completely remove the hyperbolic doubt. How is it that Descartes can remove what seems to be an un-removeable doubt? His answer---he is going to prove that God exists and that God is not a deceiver. In other words, in order to get rid of the evil genius, Descartes must show that such a being could not exist. The only way to do this effectively, holds Descartes, is to prove that another being, namely a God who is not a deceiver, does exist. If such a God exists, then an omnipotent Evil Genius is not possible.
To do so, I will attend the law enforcement program at BOCES, a vocational school connected to the school in which I attend. And post high school, I intend apply to the State University of New York of Canton. While attending SUNY Canton, I’ll earn an AAS in criminal justice. The acceptance rate at SUNY Canton is 87%, thus I won’t have to worry about getting rejected. SUNY Canton’s high acceptance rate, however, is overshadowed with it’s incredibly low graduation rate, which is 32%. Since I’m a relatively competent student, I’ll be able to dodge the bullet on SUNY Canton’s low graduation rate and therefore continue to hop down my road to
The graduation requirements at most high schools are similar to the graduation test standards in many content areas. To graduate, a student needs to complete four credits of English, three credits of social studies, two credits of mathematics, and two credits of science. (Misky) The four credits of English include instruction in written and oral communication, grammar and usage of the English language, and literature. (Misky) This is similar to the test, which measures reading, literature, writing, language, media and technology, and research and inquiry. (Wisconsin) The three credits of Social Studies cover instruction in state and local government. (Misky) The test includes geography, history, politics, economics, and behavioral sciences. (Wisconsin) The two credits of math provide instruction in the properties, processes, and symbols of arithmetic, and elements of algebra, geometry, and statistics. (Misky) The test contains mathematical processes, number operations and relationships, measurement, geometry, statistics and probability, and algebraic relationships. (Wisconsin) The two credits of science incorporate Physical science and Life science. (Misky) The test provides science connections, nature of science, science inquiry, Physical science, Earth and Space science, Life and Environmental science, science applications, and science in personal and social perspectives. (Wisconsin) In most cases the categories are equivalent with each other. The categories that fall short will just have to be propelled or altered to fit the test.
In modern day America, we unknowingly take countless things for granted on a daily basis. For example, we blatantly assume that privileges such as clean hospital rooms, trash services, and preservation have always been provided. In reality, at the time of the civil war, medical and hygienic methods were primitive compared to today’s technology in medicine. A significant difference was the process after death. Modern day embalming was created, as an innovative way to preserve the bodies of fallen soldiers, but has developed into a customary practice that accompanies contemporary mortality.
Descartes was a philosopher who seemed to discard anything which was not absolutely certain and focused on what was known. In Meditation two of Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes is doubtful of everything, as he believes that if there is any doubt for something then it must not exist. With this in mind he begins to doubt his own existence but realizes that he is unable to doubt it. Descartes believes that there is a deceiver that is powerful which deceives him. Thus if something is deceiving him, Descartes believes that he must exist in order to be deceived. As result, in determining what he really is, Descartes comes to the conclusion that he is a thinking thing, and makes the point that being able to have thoughts or to be deceived, requires one to be thinking and if one is thinking then by default you must exist. In this paper I will talk about what Descartes knows he is, the powers he possesses, and the ways he can know.
... God is real. Descartes claims that if an evil god exists and that this evil power is always tricking him then he must be real. He thought since he is capably of thinking of a god then god must be real, yet he keeps the thought in mind that he is probably not the first to think of god. Descartes explains that he is not an infinite thing but god is infinite because the thought of him continues.
Did you know, about 57% of physicians today have received some sort of request for physician-assisted suicide from a suffering terminally ill patient? These requests have been occurring since medicine has been around. This act is called Euthanasia, which is the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma. Furthermore, there are two key principles that all organized medicine agrees upon. The first one being that physicians have a responsibility to relieve pain and suffering of dying patients in their care. The second being physicians must respect patients ' competent decisions to decline life-sustaining treatment. In other words, these principles state that the patients over the age
Descartes says that God being the most perfect being. He can prove Gods existence with the fact that God gave him the idea that he exists since there is no likely that he could have come up with this idea himself. As Descartes says, “Hence it is just as much of a contradiction to think of God (that is, a supremely perfect being) lacking existence (that is, lacking a perfection), as it is to think of a mountain without a valley” (Descartes 203). Rene Descartes compares God to a mountain and his existence to a valley. According to Descartes these two things, a mountain and a valley are indivisible, just as God and his existence are
There is actually much more than doing just that. Security guards might patrol in a car and others may walk around in buildings to make sure nothing suspicious is going on. Others may patrol on foot. Most government buildings and military buildings are guarded at all times. They also have to direct people to an emergency exit in dangerous situations. Some guards work with security dogs. The only down side of the work conditions is that you may have to work on some holidays and weekends. Very few guards are armed while working. Many industries find weapons unnecessary for security guards. Banks are one of the few businesses that have armed guards. If the guards are standing or on patrol they may be standing at a gate or door. They may have to stand for long hours at a time. Some security jobs can be a routine or repetitive. Others can be dangerous, but exciting. Many security guards just patrol, but a small percentage have to work in an

This job is meant to be taken very serious because not only is your life at risk so are others. Security guards are all around you even when they do not physically appear in front of you.
