If I become a representative for the freshman class, I intend to act professional and treat the other council members with the utmost of my respect because as a representative I will represent the whole freshman class with my decisions and actions while I am in office. I also promise to understand my role and acknowledge that even though I am in a position of power I must obey the rules of the school and respect the administrators of our prestigious school. If I end up winning the election, I will set the right example for the students that are watching me and how I behave to replicate my attitude and/or behavior around other students and my teachers. I want them to know that they’re suggestions will be considered for what they really are and to see if there might be a possibility to make it happen. I am involved in several clubs, such as Spanish club and HOSA, although I do not hold office in any of them, I try to serve as a leader and to use my intelligence to help the school. I was given a list of qualities and upon reading it, I proudly realized that I demonstrate leadership. But the important consideration should not be how I successfully match this definition, but instead why I do it. I was elected treasurer for the class of 2016, a student body elected official, and hold that position of responsibility by attending meetings weekly, promoting school activities (such as homecoming), and participating in student council planning and events as much as possible. I wanted to become treasurer because I wanted a say in decisions that impacted our class. I wanted to be recognized as an individual that my peers could come to with questions and concerns.

Throughout everyday tasks in the classroom, or outside of school, I step up and lead those who need to be led. I constantly find new opportunities to lead others and help the situation any way I can. Every summer the band has a marching band camp for a week straight that we must all attend. Being an experienced band member, I step up and assist all underclassmen and show then where to go and what they need to be doing. Instead of getting frustrated when giving the freshman directions, I am calm and collect and walk them step by step until they understand, something most leaders would not have time or patience for. With many plans to help others and lead within my community, I believe that I have what it takes to be a strong, and powerful leader for the National Honor Society.
Just this year, I was voted the Vice President of my high school Robotics team. Although it’s by far one of my proudest achievements, at first, I didn’t understand why I was given such an honor. I’ve been in my high school Robotics club since freshman year, I’ve attended every single meeting, fundraiser, and event, and I’m an avid lover of programming and robotics. Yet, with all of this, I didn’t think I would be an official for my Robotics club. This was mainly due to the fact that I possess all of the qualities that I thought a leader shouldn’t have. Finally, as a member of the Student Leadership Council, I have developed meaningful relationships with peers, advisors and community leaders, some who share my views and others whose views are utterly different from mine. I have been able to grow tremendously from my association with Students Against Destructive Decisions. Thus, it is my desire to continue volunteering for the Students Against Destructive Decisions Student Leadership Council, even after I graduate from high school, because it has been such a meaningful and rewarding experience. It is my hopes that I will be able to some day facilitate a Students Against Destructive Decisions Program in my community, as there is an urgent need for positive adult mentors.

My school, Community School of Davidson has some things that would surpass my standards if I were class president. I would choose to change our homecoming, a time to celebrate our school. I believe that we should have a more traditional homecoming. This would consist of having the Homecoming football game on a Friday night. Then on that saturday we would have someone to go to the formal with, our date. This is what most schools do and I just think that it would be a lot of fun to get dressed up and go with your date to homecoming. Another thing that I would choose to change if I was running for class president is that I would choose to remove jumpstart, a time to be active during the day. I feel like Public School #23 has a character of its own. In fact it's like a tree, it has roots of strong administrators who make sure we stay grounded. It has a strong trunk of teachers who wish to support us in whatever we decide to do. We have wonderful subjects the branches that make us interested and fill our brains with knowledge and we the students are the leaves. As freshman we start to bud, as sophomores we begin to get full shape and color, as juniors we begin are full shape and size and by senior year we are tired and wish to leave the tree and adventure the world. Two character traits that I have that would make me be a great president is that I am a good listener and I take concerns into action. Some call me argumentative- I prefer the term dialectical. It is true, I enjoy debates more than the average person. Nothing compares to the thrill of triumphantly dispelling an opponent’s case and swaying an audience to my side. On top of that, I have a sincere appreciation and talent for writing, reading comprehension, and grammar. With these attributes, I feel destined for a career in law.
