The first component I believe must be included in my lesson plans would be the schools curriculum. Each school has a different curriculum so it is important for teachers to look at their schools curriculum and incorporate that into the lessons. Teachers must teach what the curriculum tells them to. It is important for teachers to teach these things because it will help students in their future classes and on their standardized tests. It is very important for teachers to follow their schools curriculum to benefit their students. The second component I believe must be included in my lesson plans would be my students. I will be going teaching everything I need to teach my students by following the schools curriculum but I want to include my students in this process. By that I mean I want my students to help me plan how I teach them. I want to get their opinions on how they want me to teach it. They could ask for hands on activities, lectures, group work, individual work, and whatever else comes to their minds. Nobody knows how the students learn best or how the students want to learn more than the students. This is why I believe they should be more involved. …show more content…
I know many teachers who only do lectures or do the same thing for every unit. All students learn differently so it is important to keep that in mind when creating a lesson. It's important to know how all of your students learn so you can implement that into the lesson. It's important to teach students using as many of these strategies as possible. This is why I love choice boards so much. Students can pick whatever way they learn best. All the students will understand the material but they will do it using their favorite strategy. This will help them all learn to the best of their ability. Of course, it's hard to do a choice board for every lesson so it is important to switch between all of the
Lesson plans are very well organized including visuals for the materials being illustrated. Academic vocabulary is addressed in many ways. For example, key concept and vocabulary words will be introduced to the students at start of lesson using building background. Students will be provided a hard copy of anticipation guide and words will be displayed on the Smart Board, too. Students will be provided with
Most educators do not make new lesson plans they change ones by adding instructional strategies. The more ways an educator teaches the better off the students are when it comes to learning. Not all students learn by listening to a lecture. There are visual learners, kinesthetic learners (hand-on), and auditory learners. If an educator can reach out using all of these styles most if not every student will learn what is being taught. Intelligence has been separated into different parts; “linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal, and intrapersonal behaviors” (Hardman, 2011). Knowing this as an educator a lesson plan should incorporate auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners, thus covering all areas.
The key aspect of teaching is engaging the students. I can testify that I learn best when the teacher is involving me, as well as others, in the assignment. Making the material personal is a useful skill and helps the students learn at a faster rate.
Every video I watched displayed tools that I could use in my own classroom. The instructional strategies and models used in the classrooms were great. My current teaching philosophy about instructional strategies and models would be that they are great to use. As a teacher, looking for ways to help teach certain lessons is a must. Every teacher found different ways to teach the materials to their students. It is always great to have resources in the classroom to look back on. Students love to have resources to guide them. In the video (Case #1112), I would emulate their strategy by letting my students use a textbook. I feel that textbooks are reliable sources and can be used to validate certain materials. In the video, you can tell that the students were using the textbook as a tool to prove their discussion with each other. In the video (Case #876), I would avoid assessing my students in whole-group discussion. I would have my student in groups to see how they communicate with each t=other about our discussion. Seeing my students evaluating each other’s opinions would be a great way into assessing their knowledge about the lesson. A classroom environment I would like to teach in would be with students who are ready to ask questions. Students who are not afraid to express their thoughts about the instruction. It would be easier for me to assess my students if that were
When it comes to planning it is important that the content of the lessons is motivating and clearly presented (Levin et al., 2016). When I design my lessons I’m going to create them based on student interest because then students are less likely to display off-task behaviour. From here I will plan various activities that allow for all students to succeed because I feel that it is a teachers responsibility to set their students up for success. In order t...
I listen to my students. I allow time for their individual impute in what they are learning, and adjust accordingly. I really believe that is why students can be so into the idea of being taught, because they are all encouraged to lead the discussion and projects before them as it relates to the curriculum. I try to learn from my students by listening to their interpretation. I am learning what interest them, and feed off of it in the work that needs to be performed. Work towards a positive social society, with this education does takes place for our students, teachers, and community, all for a better future, one that is full of knowledge and acceptance. What could be any
For each, describe what ways this preparation will benefit the beginning of your year for all students. Prior to the start of the school year one of the most important ways to prepare for the school year is to develop a curriculum map with the various different essential questions that will guide your class throughout the year. This is important is a variety of different ways. The ability to go into the school year knowing what you are going to teach gives you the ability to develop objectives that are tailored to the needs of your students. If you are a teacher who doesn't plan prior to the school year, it can be very challenging to create a curriculum that meets the different needs of all of your students.
Artifact 1: Artifact 1, under Tab C: Curricular Content Knowledge, the Instructional Plan Module, completed during ELSE 6193 Laboratory Experience was completed. For the Instructional Module, candidates were to create and teach two lesson plans for both elementary and secondary instructional settings. The lessons plans were to address one or more of the goals and objectives that were written in each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). The candidates were to describe in detail the adaptations and modification that were needed for the target students to be able to fully participate in each lesson. Additionally, each lesson plan was to incorporate some type of technology.
Teachers should realize the importance of learning modality in the classroom. There needs to be room for movement around their lesson plans because a student may take the lesson to a different level which will be a positive enhancement if the teacher continues to roll with it. Transitions need to be fluent. The students will follow along instead of getting lost in the transition period. Finally, their strengths will be what leads them to success beyond high school.
The most challenging part of creating a unit plan is knowing the depth of information to provide for the students, especially when creating a unit plan for 8th graders. I am not always sure how far I should go in my curriculums and because I already know a lot of in-depth information about my lessons, I second guess myself on whether I am adding enough objectives for students to learn. I also believe that time management might be an issue for me as well. It is easy for me to get distracted when certain topics arise and since so many topics in science are related to each other. I fear that I might add side notes that may confuse my students, shift their focus or lose their interest.
Today I used a variety of instructional delivery methods to ensure that my students were able to accomplish the learning targets. Having different modes of instruction (direct instruction, individual writing, pair-share, small group discussion, large group discussion, etc.) allows students to demonstrate learning in a variety of ways. If students do not master a key skill, it also provides students to relearn, rework, and rethink key concepts. This type of instructional design also encourages engagement as it appeals to multiple learning styles and builds in time for me to interact with students in multiple ways (including one-on-one) (IE: Chloe can be quieter. I was able to touch base her to make sure that she understood the abstract vs. concrete exercise). Using multiple instructional delivery methods also provides me with opportunities to personally motivate students to be active in their learning (IE: Emily is very creative and likes small group work. IE: Taylor likes politics and would grasp the global climate change example IE: Big Mike works best when he has time to think individually before responding to a group. A notes handout helps him process key ideas before feeling pressured to apply them. IE: Several students enjoy speaking in large groups. Asking for examples and group participation appeals to the sense of camaraderie in the class).
After finishing the teaching part of the lesson, I realized that not everything goes according to plan. For example, in our lesson plan, we had the explain portion detailed and outlined to teach students the technical terms of what they were seeing in the stations and other activities and make it a collaborative effort within groups to work with the vocabulary words. However, the teaching of the plan was not well executed. Also, I learned that teaching a topic does not have to be boring or just full of worksheets. Fun, engaging lab stations and interactive activities can fulfill the standards and requirements just as well, if not better, than basic worksheets and PowerPoint lectures. Lastly, I realized that lesson planning and teaching require a great deal of effort and work, but it is all worth it when a light bulb goes off in a students’ head and they learn something new and are excited to be learning and extend their science
For lesson planning purposes, what information do you need to know to help give you the greatest impact on instruction?
Each student learns differently, as a teacher it is my job to provide different ways to teach my students. All students learn differently, some learn better hands on, when they can listen to verbal directions, visual learners like to see what they are learning. A good teacher should be able to recognize different learning preferences in their stud tens and be able to teach according to each students
We need to continuously assess and evaluate our students so we can set appropriate goals for each student and individual instructions. Each child learns different, so as a teacher we need to have different styles of teaching for positive reinforcement.
