The University of Chicago has been one of my top choices for my post-secondary education for the past few years. I’ve spent a lot of time in high school deciding on what I wanted to do with my life, as I’m sure most high schoolers do, and one recurring thought I had was wanting to spend my college years in the city I fell in love with the moment I planted my feet on the ground there. Chicago. As a child growing up in a small town in Kentucky, I’ve always dreamed of one day moving to a large city. Most people in my position do, we went to go out and experience the world beyond the confines of our birthplace. Being from an unwealthy family, I’ve never really had the opportunity to travel as much as I would’ve liked. Sure, I did the typical …show more content…
If I were to attend your school, I would be a physics major, which is why I was glad to hear about your close working relationship with these institutions. But what I enjoyed the most about the presentation wasn’t exactly what I was told, but what I was able to experience. Looking around me I could see other prospective students who saw University of Chicago as where they saw themselves in the future as well. I felt at home. I felt as if I had found a community I could thrive in, where I could find the best version of myself. I experienced this in another instance besides simply the informational meeting; I had experienced it during my first visit to Chicago, and UChicago’s campus.
When I first visited UChicago’s campus I was immediately blown away by how beautiful the architecture was and the energetic feel of the city, but what I was more captivated by was the community of students around me. They all seemed so happy and welcoming. Needing to ask directions for finding certain buildings, my family and I found no shortage of help from the students we found walking about the campus. Seeing this level of cooperation and kindness, I couldn’t help feeling I, personally, would be welcomed into the student body with open
She is heartwarming as a soft gentle breeze; she soothes your soul like Mama’s chicken noodle soup. In 1837, she became a city; Chicago is her name, the third largest city in the United States. Chicago rests on 237 square miles of land along the border of Lake Michigan. If you are searching for adventure, cultural events, and festivals Chicago is the place to be. Nicknamed the Windy City, the city with big Shoulders the late singer Frank Sinatra best describes Chicago in one of his songs, as his kind of town. Chicago’s summers are magnificent on a hot sultry summer night nothing is better than walking along 15 miles of beaches, the lakefront, or strolling thru Grant Park, pausing in front of Buckingham fountain while the cool breeze from the lake and the mist from the lighted fountain can cool the body off.
Next year, as I embark my first year at university, I hope to fully integrate myself into the community by getting involved in the Students' Union, joining the cheer team, volunteering where I can and making many new friends along the way. At university, I hope to maintain a high grade point average, granted that my education is extremely important to me and that I am extremely ambitious about achieving my goals. Therefore, I will commit lots of my time to my studies in hopes of being a successful student. Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to being a part of the community by devoting my extra time to helping those around me. In classes, I intend on being an active learner, a respectful student, and a helpful classmate; someone who is always willing to lend a hand to others. Through engaging in my community, I hope to bring joy to others around me by spending my time supporting local events, volunteering for fundraisers, and helping plan and organize campus activities.
I was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I lived in a very welcoming neighborhood. As a child, I had many friends on my street. We would ride bikes, climb trees, visit the playground at the local park district, and stay outside until the streetlights turned on. The families on my street always looked out for each other, so we didn't worry too much about safety. All of my friends attended the same school and participated in the Chicago Park District's activities such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, music and dance lessons, and open gym events. The park district hosted an annual gym show so the kids could perform for their families. Residents would get together on most Sundays to talk about issues in the neighborhood and share meals and stories.
Growing up on the south side of Chicago in the roughest neighborhood in the city I learned a lot from others and just observing my surroundings. At times, I would always think to myself my situation could always be worse than it was, and that there is always someone who is doing worst off than me. But my situation turned from being in a bad position to being in a position where my mother would come to lose her mother and our home that we had been living in, all in the same year. After losing her mother and bother my mom lost herself in her emotions and shut down on everyone and with that came the loss of a home for me and my siblings and her job. Shortly after my mom began to go back to church and so did we. It was the first time in a log time that we had attended church and it played a big part in a learning experience for me and my siblings. Through the days that came to pass going to church sparked a desire of wanting to help others who had or are struggling to get by. My mentor, Pastor, and teacher deserves appreciation for helping my mother through a hard time and keeping me and my siblings active in a positive manor.
Chicago When I first watched Chicago at the movie theater, I was not fully satisfied. I wanted more, so I went back to get some and watched it six more times with different friends and family members! Last summer during a visit to my native Mexico City, I had the opportunity to watch drag queens perform several numbers from the movie musical. They did an amazing job, without surpassing the outstanding performances of the actors in the film. Last year, I visited NYC for the first time and indulged in the rows of the Ambassador Theatre.
Gary is not just the butthole of Indiana- it's the butthole of Illinois, the USA, and I'd argue the rest of the world as well. To imagine just how terrible Gary is, visualize the grand city of Chicago. It's nowhere near perfect, and is on the decline, but still has fantastic neighborhoods and is home to millions. Now, make the city 10-15 times smaller, remove every skyscraper and notable landmark from your imagined skyline, double the number of factories, and add a distinct, disgusting smell that needs one single word to describe it: Gary. Not only is that the name of your smell, it's the name of the armpit you just created.
The fact that the university provides adaptations, resources, and opportunities, along with celebrating student and alumni success, shows that the school values unique interests and backgrounds. Additionally, through collaboratory efforts (e.g. The Annual Conference of World Affairs and the University of Colorado Boulder Brain Behavior Clinic) the university strives to build a progressive and inclusive environment. Moreover, Since the institution encourages their students to pursue a life of questioning, researching, learning, and creativity, I believe that University of Colorado will exceed my

March 6th, 2018 I saw the longest running Broadway musical, Chicago. I have seen the movie that is based on the musical and really enjoyed it so I did have some high expectations for this show. I am happy to say that I was not disappointed, it really was an amazing show with all the glitz and glamor of Cook County jail. The way the whole show was set up and how they decided to incorporate the pit bad with the stage was amazing and the actors and actresses really were fantastic.
I come from a smaller city and we have a severe lack of diversity, and I know I want to go to a college that prompts diversity of not only people, but character and ideas. Although a bigger school I saw that Wisconsin-Madison's class size average was 29 students and heard from a Madison alumni that the school was reasonably tight knit which but my worries to rest. Also, University of Wisconsin-Madison's location could not be better. I visited the city of Madison not long ago and took a fancy to the city. The city was vibrant and exciting and seemed booming with opportunity and interesting developments all around. Most importantly, Madison is not far away from northern Illinois, and anyone with a worried mother would know that location is an essential factor. Lastly, I took a liking to the plethora of student activities offered at Madison. I found many of the clubs and activities that were
The University of Michigan is an institution that understands the value of learning experiences that take place outside of the classroom. The extensive chances for studying abroad and substantial campus activities for classics students provide the kind of environment that I can truly see myself thriving in for the next four
Born and raised a city boy, I often wonder how different my life would be had I been raised in the country. Imagine having to choose to reside in one place for the rest of your life. Which would you opt for? Some people would argue that the hyperactive lifestyle that a big city has to offer has more benefits. However, others would contend that the calm and peaceful environment of the countryside is much more rewarding. Several people move from the city to a farm to get away from the hustle and bustle. Likewise, farmers have traded in their tractors and animals to live a fast paced city life. Of course, not all large cities are the same nor are all of the places in the country identical. Realizing this, ten years ago, I decided to hang up the city life in Indiana to pursue a more laid back approach to life in rural Tennessee. Certainly, both city life and life in the country have their benefits, but they also have distinguishable differences.
All in all, both the city lifestyle and the country lifestyle have their respective perspectives, each with their own positive and detrimental factors. While the city life involves easier accessibility to essential services and an appealing range of experiences, the country life is much less expensive and naturally a better environment. All in all, the tale of “The Town Mouse and the City Mouse” provides only one side of a story that has no clear consensus.
