My up-to-the-challenge attitude, determination, and adaptability push others and assist them to be more comfortable in a strenuous environment. Along with my former eighth grade classmates, expectations were hesitant, uncertain, and frightened. To my surprise, I quickly grew comfortable, social, and began to support others to get through the tough transition. Being myself and discovering the good in the experience allowed me to help them navigate through the stressful change. My guidance opened their eyes to the potential opportunities for personal growth. I will pursue these personal attributes and views to help enrich the community at
I am a dedicated, focused student looking to push the boundaries of Engineering Physics with creative out of the box thinking. I have the drive to be successful and positively represent UBC Engineering Physics. I have a passion for physics and math which is why I believe this program is so appealing and a perfect choice. Having already started, run and sold a successful landscaping company, I have experience in entrepreneurship and have determined being an entrepreneur is something I want to pursue in the future. I believe Engineering Physics would give me the opportunity and breadth of knowledge to make my entrepreneurial vision a reality and allow me to find solutions to the issues that will impact the future of humanity. An HBCU is a college/university that embeds the nature of power and black excellence; a place with surroundings that doesn’t force you, but makes you want to push yourself to become a better person inside and out, and throughout the community. Transferring would allow myself to be put in an atmosphere of continuous motivation and growth that I would feed off of my superiors and the people around me.
As many people have told me before, it is a very different ballgame than middle school’s easy going years. There is much more work, the classes are harder, and the environment is completely different. Many people’s grades may slip and they may cower in fear at the barrage of assignments they receive class after class. Unlike other people, I am confident in my ability to excel at all classes and to sustain exemplary grades. Therefore, while many are trembling in fear at the prodigious assignments and work is bombarding them from all angles, I will be at ease, knowing that whatever obstacle is thrown my way, I will conquer it and be its own
The main component I look for in college is their commitment to further my studies. I feel this college will provide an ingenious culture within the science field, therefore rendering myself with the building blocks necessary to later pursue the medical field. Not only does UNCW devote itself towards their student’s undergraduate years, but also by providing Professional pathways such as Pre-Medicine, students such as myself can go into Professional schools better prepared. In addition to my interest in the academics the school has to offer, I also marvel at the amount of extracurricular activities available to the student body. One student organization in particular is the Greek Life. When my mother attended this school, she was an avid member

In conclusion, I was fortunate enough to understand many important things in life. One of those things is that we do not always begin at the desired start line, but through effort and strong will we can arrive at the desired finish line, where the outcome of our plans and goals reside. In my pursuit of education, I faced many challenges and hardships, but I always viewed them as temporary setbacks not as a finish line. I am certain that an opportunity to study at the UW would help me reach my finish line.
“The boy who is going to make a great man must not make up his mind merely to overcome a thousand obstacles, but to win in spite of a thousand repulses and defeats.” While I am not a man, I can still make a great woman in Theodore Roosevelt’s opinion. I have had many struggles associated with all of my experiences, some struggles shared with others, some not, but I never gave up. I consistently overcome the obstacles I am faced with in each situation. I am a full time student, part time worker, and an experienced varsity swimmer. I look forward to the new challenges that will shape me while furthering my educational and personal growth. As a student at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, I would bring a comprehensive mix of academic, athletic, and real life experiences to the campus.
Welcome to all of you who have come to share this special evening with us. My name is John and I am a member of the graduating class of 2012. Standing here tonight is a surprise to me and to many who knew me. At one point, after making some mistakes and losing my sense of self, I dropped out of school. With my parents’ urging me, I enrolled at Alternative High School. I came to this school with the hope that I’d graduate on time. I knew that I would have to change, so I set goals to achieve perfection and I achieved it. As many of you may know, I am now perfect in every way, shape, and form...

The last words a teenager wants to hear is that she must move for the fifteenth time in her life, this time an hour and a half away from her beloved high school. This was what I was told the summer before my junior year because my mom, after having worked difficult, low paying jobs for years, finally got a decent paying job that she enjoyed. She’d already been commuting for a few months, an hour and a half each way everyday. My small family decided we’d be alright with moving away from our little town of Anacortes, but I made the decision for myself that I would not change to a new high school because of the deep connection I shared with my teachers and friends. I truly felt like my teachers cared about my education more than I’d ever experienced, and I didn’t want to give away those connections.
On my first day of college classes, I was nervous. At a new school with new people and my heart was racing just thinking about all the important things I’d have to do. I felt like a small fish in a huge pond that had millions of fish in it. The first class went smooth enough as people were going around giving their names and smiling. I realized I don’t know these people and that means they don’t know me either. With this thought, I made a list a list of things I had always wanted for myself but could never manage to do in a tiny school where everyone knew me. I titled my list; change can be for the better. This first semester at Cowley has influenced me to live life naturally, to reorganize my priorities when it comes to studying, and to go outside my comfort zone.
The past three years have been difficult, yet the most rewarding. During high school I foolishly squandered the opportunity a collegiate high school offers. I’ll always be grateful to Mr. Cass, a past teacher; for losing his temper and speaking the unspoken truths of our class’s reality. It gave me the wakeup call I desperately needed, and shed light to the depth of disservice I’d done myself. The fall of 2014, I started community college with a new-found respect for education. I worked diligently in my
Dealing with new people and surroundings were too overwhelming for me to handle. But I began to think that a new surrounding might be exactly what I needed. My closest friend, who had been quite the comic, had been moved to a different middle school. Although I did have other friends, it wasn’t the same. Lunches often consisted of me sandwiched between acquaintances that would provide small talk, but not much else. The booming beeps of the lunch scanner and the joyous laughs of fellow students served as fillers for my otherwise silent meal. Would going to a new school be that much
