STATEMENT OF PURPOSE Akhil Lohchab Growing up in the late 90’s, I witnessed computers revolutionize India – we had cellphones and personal computers and the internet transforming our lives - and like most other kids, I was fascinated by them. It wasn’t until I took course on QBasic in 8th grade, however, that I really took a liking to computer programming. The idea of computer ‘languages’ seemed almost magical to me. Over the years, that proclivity for programming grew into a passion and led me to take more programming electives in higher grades. I also took the initiative to set up a student-run Computer Club in my high school and host our first annual Computer Symposium. My upbringing in Delhi also made me aware of the gaping inequalities of wealth distribution in our society and as my interest in Computer Science deepened, it only reinforced my belief that lean-technologies can help governments of developing countries in bringing their policies to the altar of execution more efficiently. It is that passion which has grown over the years into a single-minded pursuit of Computer Science as a serious academic career, and led me to pursue a B.Tech in Information Technology at Delhi Technological University (DTU; formerly Delhi College of Engineering), one of the premier institutions in the country. I aspire to attain a doctorate in the areas of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP). I believe Berkeley’s MS in Computer Science will help me expand both the breadth and depth of my knowledge in these areas and allow me to identify a specialization for a subsequent doctoral degree. My undergraduate degree at DTU has laid the groundwork for me through a well-designed curriculum that has helped me develop... ... middle of paper ... ...Documents’ particularly interesting. I would also relish the opportunity to contribute to the AI research project on ‘Child Question Answering Software’. Berkeley offers me the unique proposition of not only being able to gain expertise and depth of knowledge in my fields of interest, but the chance to interact with a highly motivated and talented cohort of students that would help me grow as an individual. Pursuant to my doctoral research, I envision myself as an academic preferably teaching in the field of natural language processing. A MS in Computer Science from Berkeley will equip me with the proficiency and gravitas required to embark on my journey to become a Professor. I believe that my undergraduate research work makes me uniquely poised to pursue a graduate program and I am confident that I can be a valuable addition to the graduate community at Berkeley.
The two videos’ main topic is Keynote Ginni Rometty’s speech about IBM Watson and the impact of cognitive computing. The video role is Keynote Ginni Rometty who is IBM company CEO. Summarize her speech; I can understand three impacts about Watson, which are the AI for business, Watson cognitive computing change enterprise and Watson transforming industries.
Technology has been able to make life easier and more comfortable for humans, plants and animals. Artificial Intelligence on the other hand has been able to solve some problems beyond human capacity. Artificial intelligence alongside natural intelligence is what Stephen Hawking uses for his creative thinking and to communicate. Artificial intelligence is more than just computers and software. Over the years, computers have been developed in terms of size, shape and speed. Computing systems have been available for over 200 years, ranging from the Chinese abacus to Charles Babbage’s first macro computer. Computers have become more advanced especially this digital age. Several computer companies have been creating computers, but IBM invented a new type of cognitive computing. In the year 2009, IBM was able to create a supercomputer called Watson. The artificial intelligence is so acute that Watson was able to beat two humans in the game show Jeopardy! IBM’s Watson is a supercomputer which is capable of cognitive thinking, it defeated two top human competitors in Jeopardy! and it has positive and negative impacts in the world.
Specifically, I am grateful for how it educated me. In the past few years, however, I have come to understand UD, not only as a university, but as a fixture of the Dayton community with a unique purpose. Now, I want to work at UD, to broaden my impact beyond the classroom by being a part of UD’s mission to educate students through faith, service, and community.
In conclusion, I believe that I have the required zeal to progress my knowledge further at the University of Southern California. My decision to focus on Cybersecurity over the years, has equipped me with a unique set of strengths that I can put to use in the program. Being an International student, I hope to contribute to the already existing multiethnic and multiracial society at your esteemed institution. After I earn my master's degree, I intend to start work on my Ph.D. in Computer Science. I see Ph. D as a professional stepping stone that would help me work in the area of research and development for the Government of India. It is in R & D that I believe, I can make the greatest contribution, utilizing my theoretical background and creativity as a scientist.
The mind must never be kept idle because of its tremendous capacity to absorb and learn. After careful consideration of my aptitude, interests and experiences gained while pursuing my under graduation in the field of Computer Science and Engineering, I have decided to pursue my Masters in the field of Computer Science. Being a dynamic and ever evolving field, many new developments are expected and there is immense scope for research on new products and applications. To progress and make a mark in this field, I realize that it is important for me to pursue my Masters from a reputable university. I have always dreamt of taking up research.
The purpose of this paper is to reflect upon my progression through the doctoral program while reflecting on personal growth and expansion, shifts in thinking, perceptions of the educational field, anticipated challenges, and potential
Co-op terms with leading AI companies will give me a relevant understanding of the challenges and breakthroughs in AI while developing my soft skills in preparation for the workforce. At Waterloo, I will use my passion and engineering expertise to contribute to cutting-edge AI research and the development of cancer-detecting, emotion-recognizing or car-driving AI systems that anyone can use. In addition, I hope to fully embrace the entrepreneurial culture by launching a startup and take advantage of Intellectual Property Rights Policy #73 and the valuable facilities, community and guidance provided by the Velocity Garage program to build a successful and socially responsible

Through my various life experiences, I have also garnered a great deal of maturity and responsibility that is highly valued among the adults with whom I regularly collaborate. These two traits allow me to respectfully work alongside peers and more experienced individuals, understand the difference between work and recreation time, and provide a role model for other students to follow. In regard to more tangible attributes, Dr. Churchill’s Research in Computational Science course has provided me with extensive knowledge and experience involving R programming, computational biology, statistical analysis and presentation skills that will be a critical asset to a research team. While my career interests are far from solidified, I do know that I yearn to pursue research opportunities in college and in my career.
The choices and the opportunities that provided here have motivated and inspired me to pursue higher education. I began to have an ambition, and I began to have a set plan, working step by step to achieve my career goal. My focus as an undergraduate has always been with an eye toward graduate school and a career in International Development field. Aware of the thoroughness of graduate study, I always enrolled in the most challenge courses and courses that were most qualified in my area of interest. With my previous volunteer experiences, I have developed the necessary skills and strengthened my weaknesses, which will strongly enhance my ability and candidacy to pave the way to my career

My fascination with computers began from early high school when we had introductory computer classes. Further, programming and graphics lessons caught my imagination and soon computers became almost an obsession. This resulted in my choosing Computer Science for undergraduate studies. Artificial Intelligence is the area where I have chosen to set my foot in.
Being well acknowledged about the above saying has pushed me a mile further for every aspect of my life. The four year engineering course in Information Technology has always been a beautiful experience and has inspired me to put the knowledge into my Masters degree. This would allow me to enhance my knowledge about technology and its pros and cons and the guidance I would need. Gone are those days when man had to slog for simple works, he has advanced into boundaries which are unimaginable and has made his life easy, being an essential part of such an advancement has always been my motive. To attain my goal, my first priority would be in the field of research which will consist experiencing the applications in the real world steered by comprehensive know-how about technology. Technology has prevailed and casted its spell to parts unknown and now has been imbibed into man.
