Superficially, I am Erin Watt, a Graceland University mathematics student. Even though I received “satisfactory” grades in Calculus III and IV, the compassionate Graceland University faculty helped me recalibrate. From an early age I knew that I wanted to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics, but my instructors’ patience and wisdom inspired me to become a mathematics professor. In addition to providing a supportive environment for my future students, I wish to encourage them to seek a life of curiosity and learning. Since my decision to pursue a Ph.D. in mathematics, I have accumulated academic experiences that will provide a stable foundation for my future. Since Graceland University and Lamoni depend on each other, students have numerous opportunities for positive community building. In fact, Dr. Jason Smith recruited several of his mathematics students to help with Mathemagical Mystery Tour; during the winter of 2016, we ventured to neighboring counties and brought fun mathematics activities to the middle schools. By working directly with the classes, the college students hoped to break the potential monotony of daily lessons and to encourage the middle schoolers to find the joy in math. Another instance involves the Lamoni …show more content…
The fact that the university provides adaptations, resources, and opportunities, along with celebrating student and alumni success, shows that the school values unique interests and backgrounds. Additionally, through collaboratory efforts (e.g. The Annual Conference of World Affairs and the University of Colorado Boulder Brain Behavior Clinic) the university strives to build a progressive and inclusive environment. Moreover, Since the institution encourages their students to pursue a life of questioning, researching, learning, and creativity, I believe that University of Colorado will exceed my

My parents always told me growing up “ In order to get something you never had that I will have to do things I have never done.” No one prepared me for college, because I am a first generation college student. In addition to being a first generation college student ; I am also a first generation high school graduate. I use my my parents trials and tribulations as my motivation, because I want
The math/science program at PWC Governor’s School presents challenging learning opportunities and well as motivated classmates and professors that can further my curiosity and devotion for the mathematical and scientific world around me. It also withholds a window of opportunity for me to move closer in attaining my career aspiration. In return, I can provide collaboration, leadership, and most importantly, an intelligent mind capable of creating pioneering, innovative, and inspiring ideas. Together, the students/faculty of PWCS Governor’s School and I can collaborate to form the most ground-breaking solutions.
...sented themselves such as: lack of financial support, low graduation rates, and a non-existence of diversification. However, these issues can be changed by an increase in support from different places which would add to the existing importance of HBCU’S. People are inspired by the Institutions because they work hard to overcome obstacles placed in their way. Students, Alumni’s, and Parents see the motivation and determination of the schools to stay ongoing and I see it as well.

3) inclusion and 4) engaged-learning. As seen on billboard’s across the state, UVU has really been pushing to be known as the “engaged learning university.” Until we had the chance to personally experience what that statement means, we didn’t fully appreciate the uniqueness of the model.
With this promise came serious concerns over education taught students ranked 28th in the United States out of 40 other countries in Mathematics and Sciences. 80% of occupations depend on knowledge of Mathematics and Science (Week and Obama 2009). In order to ensure that educators have enough money to fund the endeavor to be more competitive with the rest of the world in Mathematics and Science, President Obama will increase federal spending in education with an additional 18 billion dollars in k-12 classrooms, guaranteeing educators have the teachers, technology, and professional development to attain highly quali...

As a secondary subject, society often views mathematics a critical subject for students to learn in order to be successful. Often times, mathematics serves as a gatekeeper for higher learning and certain specific careers. Since the times of Plato, “mathematics was virtually the first thing everyone has to learn…common to all arts, science, and forms of thought” (Stinson, 2004). Plato argued that all students should learn arithmetic; the advanced mathematics was reserved for those that would serve as the “philosopher guardians” of the city (Stinson, 2004). By the 1900s in the United States, mathematics found itself as a cornerstone of curriculum for students. National reports throughout the 20th Century solidified the importance of mathematics in the success of our nation and its students (Stinson, 2004). As a mathematics teacher, my role to educate all students in mathematics is an important one. My personal philosophy of mathematics education – including the optimal learning environment and best practices teaching strategies – motivates my teaching strategies in my personal classroom.

I am a person who has always had a profound passion and fascination for areas requiring an analytical approach. Right from early days at school, Mathematics has intrigued me. The most challenging of all problems were my favorites and obtaining solutions to them would leave me with a sheer feeling of ecstasy. I always did and always would thrive on solving the most challenging problems. With a compelling desire to excel, hard work became my second nature. My aspiration for a technical career prompted me to take up one of the most coveted undergraduate program in Computer Engineering at SR Engineering College, the best of such institutions. My own systematic & methodical towards finding a solution to any problem best suits this field.
... challenging education. It has been my long cherished dream to become a researcher and eventually come out as a good Computer Science engineer, equipped enough to contribute to the larger community. To gain expertise, I wish to undertake my graduate study at your prestigious University. I feel invigorated looking at the program offered at your university, the way it is taught and several research options provided that enable a student to gain knowledge on the program to its fullest.
Throughout out this semester, I’ve had the opportunity to gain a better understanding when it comes to teaching Mathematics in the classroom. During the course of this semester, EDEL 440 has showed my classmates and myself the appropriate ways mathematics can be taught in an elementary classroom and how the students in the classroom may retrieve the information. During my years of school, mathematics has been my favorite subject. Over the years, math has challenged me on so many different levels. Having the opportunity to see the appropriate ways math should be taught in an Elementary classroom has giving me a
