Banning guns

The news has had been full of stories about guns lately. The Fort Hood shooting for one, hit me close to my heart. Some people may be on the edge whether to ban guns or not. All the facts are not being put out for fear of public outcry or politically endorsed news. These facts should help you make your choice to continue allowing citizens without criminal records to be permitted to carry concealed firearms. Citizens with proper training can help uphold the law when police officers are not present. Armed citizens who obey the law are going to be the next best thing in a physical assault or armed robbery. According to a recent study with US News, Gary Kleck, a criminologist with the with the University of Florida, and Jongyeon Tark, a professor of criminal justice at the New Haven University, stated; “Kleck and Tark found that using a gun reduced the risk of property loss and minor as well as serious injuries to the victim, and that injury resulted from self-protection with the gun in only ten percent of cases.” So not only did they keep their property and remained unharmed they only had to defend themselves in ten percent of cases. Citzens with guns can protect themselves from harm (Gary Kleck and Jongyeon Tark/ US News np). According to Forbes magazine news contributor, Larry Bell, comments that “According to the Department of Justice gun-related homicides dropped 39 over the course of 18 years.” Also an addition of back-ground checks for gun purchases had an increase of 19 percent to a total of 19.6 million for all of 2012. These are just a few of numbers associated with the fall of gun crimes with the addition of gun sales increasing. It only makes sense that an increase of armed citizens would defer the armed assailants that prey on opportunity with lawlessness. (Larry Bell/Forbes magazine
