Gun control and school safety
Don’t take our word for it - see why 10 million students trust us with their essay needs.
How guns can be controlled and useful at the same time is that we can conserve them, by making sure that the wrong people such as kids don’t get a hold of the guns that might be put in their possession or somewhere the firearm can be hidden and the kids might find it. So it is very important to know what instructors are doing especially when it comes to guns and teaching little kids how dangerous they can be, until how they instructor's their students teach them how to use them responsibly also the other way that a concealed weapon can be dangerous if also a mentally unstable person gets a hold of a gun or just simply in possession with the wrong person. “ that the gun violence now days is outrageous compared to a few years ago and the police are simply saying that if people don’t have a license or any papers that they have to sign in order to own a firearm just simply don’t get one at all that will simply cut down the gun violence maybe a little but, at least it is an improvement where the police force don’t have to put up with any violence at all to help their job 50 times better than it is now.( Milligan Susan. “ We Need Gun Control To Stop more than Criminals.”) How ever there are different types of guns and there are some examples down below also they will be a description on how each of them work differently, examples: 45 = pistol, air gun= a gun that uses compressed air to fire small round bullets, automatic= a weapon that fires automatically. (Robert J. Spitzer “ Politics of Gun Control”.) The guns that were listed above are the guns that people use everyday life there on the police force but mainly they have specialized guns that they use to bring down the people and murders that they chase everyday, the police force has to use them to bring down their criminals also there is such a thing as criminals having like extra strength when they are on a rage that is why they make the guns for the police force to use. Bullets are also important to guns and here some examples below to show people what type of bullets are used There is the smallest bullet called the {FMJ} which refers to a Full Metal Jacket. There is another bullet called a {Sp} which is a Soft Point bullet, those were just some examples of each bullet and some each bullet tells how they are used and describes the shape of the bullet is also how each bullet is efficient. Guns can be resourceful such as in the disarmed movement on Gun Control where everybody could lay down their weapons and go without them for at least a day or two, we are also very fortunate if no violence occurs at all in America we are a very lucky nation that is trying to protect our children and other people that are not in harm. ( Hunter . Jack “ How Gun Control Kills” The American Conservation. Article.) Anybody can snap in just a quick second and nobody knows what makes them snap as at a quick second so as citizens we should be considerate of the shape of those people are in and don’t take, them for granted like we have been we can not just be mean to somebody and not expect them to snap over a period time especially if they have a mental illness.
In Colorado there is a law that children under the age of 14 can own a gun and have it in their possession also the teachers are allowed to keep guns on them especially if they have a license and papers to prove that they are allowed to own a firearm in the classroom as long as if their mentally stable, and as long if they keep their weapon in a safe place where no students inside the classroom can get a hold of it especially if they are not mentally stable. But it is different in colleges they are not allowed to have guns they have not yet passed that law yet therefore that reason their is a lot of students that are using weapons as threatening people, around campus that they can’t have any of that on their campus ground that's why they have high security around on the school grounds where they will not be any kind of school disturbances on the school campus. There is also a big harassment issue with guns also stalking comes into role when somebody is in a relationship with somebody that is only when someone life is in danger especially in the state of california they hear threats like that everyday and there is a word for …show more content…
that called “ credible threat of violence” which means intentionally saying something or sending messages through cellular device or harassment in by going to somebody’s house. Also another thing that can go along with “ credible threat of violence” is in the state of California young people can get a restraining order and even be put into prison for life just for harassing someone, in the year of December 2015 they have been a lot burglaries that has been a nationwide occurring violence with the gun issues.( Washington. “ Senator to renew gun control push after California shooting spree. U.S. Politics) The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) are figuring out ways to put a stop to gun violence across the nation where the young people and families can be finally safe in their own neighborhood without having to worry about anybody invading on them which every family needs a firearm in their household where they can protect themselves in a violent situation, the accurate age for a person owning a gun in a household pertaining kids they have to be 21 where the police know that they're responsible hopefully.
( Hardy, David T. “ Why are gun owners are Right to Fight Against Gun Control” reason.com) Seven states have to be background checked before anybody can buy a gun from their store and here are the following states listed below: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, New York, Oregon, and Rhode Island and the handgun checks on the four states are Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, it is very important to know how many guns are made a day since there is a lot violence happening today in America and the president is thinking about taking our guns away which is not right.(Friedman, Matt. “ Gun Control groups file lawsuit to force NJ attorney general to report on smart guns”. true jersey.) Which that is why they should not take away people's guns that they have in their homes to prevent having walk in burglaries also home invasions they been having this issue since 1989 all the way through the year of 2015 that is why the police are working on getting that
under control as we all know that is never gonna be under control. The FBI ( Federal Bureau of Investigation) have been coming up with ideas to improve the new home system alarms so they can catch their suspects much easier than they are now, the new alarms that they have put in now they have to make special alarm systems that are made for home burglaries. What the American citizens need to be worried about is the economy taking away our rights to have firearms in our homes but as American citizens have rights that they serve such as the “ freedom of Speech” , what that means as U.S. citizens American people have the rights to speak whatever they want not even the president or government can stop them even though they may feel like it. ( Milligan Susan Battleground America. The New Yorker. ) Today there is not that much people speaking up for their freedom of speech which they need to do to show all American citizens not to stop standing up for their rights and also quit letting the government take over where we barely have freedom of speech, left so we need to make ourselves known.
In “Stop Worrying About Guns in the Classroom. They’re Already here.” the author, Erik Gilbert, argues in favor of the law allowing the concealed carry of firearms in college campuses. Gilbert claims that it’s futile to be “worried by the prospect of having guns in [the] classroom” because he believes that even before the bill was passed, some students and faculty were already carrying firearms to campus (Gilbert). Furthermore, he insinuates that despite the presence of firearms, there were no incidents of student or faculty causing harm. To support his argument, the author provides incidents which have occurred over the last decade at his campus, such as accidental discharge of guns in dorms, firearms in student’s vehicles, and one faculty member who was discovered to be in possession of a gun in an on-campus facility. Considering these incidents and previous knowledge of “prevailing regional attitudes towards guns”, the author assumes that significant numbers of students, and possibly faculty, bring guns on campus regularly (Gilbert). As for those who are afraid due to the new law, he declares to them that firearm permit-holders are not dangerous by comparing the rate of their crimes to that of police officers. He also reasons that permit holders need to be at least 21 to qualify—claiming that the more mature students qualify—and have background checks performed.
What is your definition of gun control? In the essay “There is a reason they choose schools”, you will discover what gun control means to Timothy Wheeler. Wheeler is a major part of the organization, Doctors for Responsible Gun Ownership. He has written an essay in which he is trying to prove that without being able to use self-defense, guns pose a public health risk. Wheeler has worked with many physicians, medical students, and scientist who support his theory. By doing extensive studies in previous gun violence cases, they want to prove guns are more than just a health issue, they are a health crisis. Not only to those who carry them, but also to those who don’t. In many of these studies, they used schools as the primary target of gun violence.
Right now, the U.S. has a National Instant Background Check System; however, it contains many flaws. This system is meant to act as a filter to stop the wrong people from having guns. In 2007, the Bipartisan legislation was passed to strengthen this system. It relies on data supplied by the states, but the data is often incomplete and inadequate (Merino 104). Unlicensed gun sellers have also created a dangerous loophole. The law makes an exception for gun sellers who aren’t federally licensed gun dealers. These sellers sell guns informally through venues such as gun shows, and are not required to run background checks. This is a dangerous loophole where people who should not have guns can get them (“Gun”). Senator Frank R. Lautenberg once stated, commenting on the gun sh...
One of the biggest debates in education is how to respond to gun violence in schools. According to BBC, “There were 64 school shootings in 2015” (BBC). One response to the rise in gun violence in schools is to arm teachers. Even our President has mentioned “giving a bonus” (Davis 2) to teachers that The fact that the idea of arming teachers is even being discussed is disappointing. Bringing more guns into a school is not the answer to gun violence. Most people that defend the idea that guns will “help” keep schools safe have basically three points: (1) teachers will be trained in gun safety, (2) it helps deter potential school shooters, and (3) it will make the students feel more safe. Even though there is some truth to those points, I think that the cons of arming teachers vastly outweigh the pros of arming teachers.
Imagine... you are driving down the street to see your loving family. You stop at a gas station and a guy comes in. He has a bandana and bad intentions. All of a sudden, he loads a pistol and aims it towards you. What are your options? Try to visualize, a guy going to see his wife and kids, but when out of nowhere a person pulls you aside and then points a pistol at you. Over the course of years, ninety-three United States citizens are killed with guns. Due to these reasons, it seems it is necessary to get rid of guns because of the 21,175 suicides, 505 deaths due to accidental/ negligent discharge of a firearm. Guns should be banned for civilian use, due to too many deaths from unregistered users, misuse, and increased crime rate.
In “Vulnerable Schools Need Protection: Guns, Training For Teachers may be the answer”, published in a 2008 edition of the Chicago Tribune, David McGrath argues that some teachers should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon for protection. First, McGrath states that if a random psychotic gunman were searching for someplace to attack, his classroom would make an easy target. He feels that if he was trained and armed, his class would not be trapped without a chance of survival because he would be able to defend against the gunman. Sec...
College is seen as the beginning of young adult life, but campus crime can prevent the continuation of that life.Yet, campuses still prohibit students from carrying essential self defense weapons. This is most likely due to their ignorance of the benefits involved with allowing campus carry. Campus carry improves the overall environment of a college and promotes safety. Students should be allowed to carry guns on campus due to the current lack of protection offered through the university and an individual’s lawful right, despite the belief that it would cause an escalation in violent crime.
Hence, gun control is a frequently discussed controversial topic in American politics. Although the Second Amendment prevents the federal government from completely banning guns in America, limited restrictions are allowed on the distribution and possession of firearms. Certain groups of people such as criminals, the mentally unstable, and soldiers dishonorably discharged from the military are prohibited from possessing or interacting with firearms (Flynn). These restrictions are enforced by background checks in some states, on both a state and federal level. However, gun laws vary from state to state and are often not thorough enough; the background checks are flawed due to lack of information and misinformation, and guns can easily end up in the hands of criminals and malevolent individuals.
People have questioned gun control long time. Many people wonder if anyone, aside from those who join the law force, should be allowed to carry guns. Benjamin Franklin once said, “Those who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety” (Wright 4). Franklin understood that taking guns away from law-abiding citizens would not uphold their liberty. Some people who argue for gun control state many violent crimes involve guns. Others believe a child could find the gun and something bad could happen to the child or others when a gun is unsafely stored. People who argue against gun control might say there is a huge psychological gap between citizens who shoot to protect themselves or their property and those who go into schools and shoot at others. Criminals will always find a way around gun control laws and will be able to obtain and use guns illegally. The second amendment protects gun rights for individual citizens. Reasonable gun control laws and educational steps can be taken to protect the majority of U.S. citizens. Gun control does not only take guns away from criminals, gun control also limits law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves and their families when necessary.
Concealed weapons in college campus’s have been a big issue since the mass shootings in Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois Universities. Allowing for guns to be allowed in college campus’s would be a bad thing to do since it would create additional risks for students, even if weapons were allowed it wouldn’t deter the shooter, and it would detract from a healthy learning environment. So far there is only five states , Colorado, Mississippi, Oregon, Utah, and Wisconsin, that allow “concealed carry” at school campus.
In the United States, there is a famous saying to justify gun ownership “Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” It is true that the person with the gun is the one who is doing the killing but the gun makes it easier to have a massacre. However guns are useful for police, security, and military so they could protect themselves and everyone around them. Americans are not obsessed with guns; the American people are tired that their 2nd amendment rights are being violated. Police violate the citizen right to bare arm and will detain them. The sell of guns are being banned in some states, which makes it harder for citizen to own a gun. When someone chooses to carry a knife for protection the law will try to violate his or her right.
Like Mr. Cuellar said “ Being an US Customs I know any one with a gun in a shooting will help out to, there is more good people then bad and together we can take them down , that’s why I am with guns allowed in school campus , for the reason that I am also a father and care for the safety of my family members”. As he mentioned it can also be protection for oneself when you encounter a problematic situation. There are good reasons why we should allow them but there is more bad ones than good. Some people say that they’ll feel more protective if they have a gun with them , knowing someone you don’t know has one. If guns would be allowed under strictly rules and would have a lot of training and permissions / test people have to go through maybe like that I will be safe in school with guns
They believe that if background checks were required for private sales, which they describe as “firearms sold at gun shows, through classified newspaper ads, the Internet, and between individuals virtually anywhere” then the “Gun Show Loophole” would be eliminated (Coalition to Stop Gun Violence). As evidenced by the call for an increase in gun control after mass shootings, people believe that with stricter gun control, we would have less incidences of gun violence. Gun control advocates argue that if we have stricter gun control, then we will have a safer country, with fewer shootings. According to a study done by the University of Wisconsin and Bowling Green State University between 2005-2007, the number of police officers who “were convicted of firearms violations” was convicted “at a.0002% annual rate” (Fund).
Guns can have a positive or a negative effect in the world. Guns can be the most important instrument for the “good guys” to bring peace, but guns can be used in a wrong way by the “bad guys” committing violent crimes. The views on the gun control from the gun owners and those who oppose guns are different. Lots of peoples are murdered every day in gun violence. There is a controversy going on about gun control in the United States, whether if the gun controls should be permitted or not. The gun control debate has been a hot topic for year, and lots of people think guns are unnecessary tool, but some think it is needed for their safety. There are new laws that are dealing with this issue about the gun control. Permitting the carrying of concealed handguns can make the individuals and Unites States safer; however it also causes lots of violent crimes to occur.
Gun safety is very important in the matters of teaching people that firearms are not a toy. One should always treat the gun like it is loaded. Too many people choose to play around with guns by swinging them around, tossing them to people, or aiming the gun at other people and pretending to shoot them. These are signs that people are much too immature and should not be handling a firearm.
