On January 23, 2018, a 15-year-old student at Marshall County High School, came to school with a handgun and killed two students and injured eighteen other students. He was charged with two charges of murder and twelve counts of assault in the first degree. In the past years we only heard about a big shooting in big cities, but now we live in a world where there are more and more shooting are happening. Also, there is more violence in the united states too. The united states of America need gun control because of school shootings, gang violence, and suicides. If we could pass some stricter laws for gun control, we could prevent some many shootings in our world today. First, we need gun control because of all the violence and shootings in schools. Kentucky has already had two school shooting this year and in the last couple of years, the shooting rate has gone up. In most of these shooting, it was a kid who got the gun and shot innocent kids at their school. So the youth of America are going around getting these guns and taking other teen's life. Teens in schools are no longer feeling safe in their schools. There have been sixteen school shootings just this year and as you know two of them have been in Kentucky, one in Marshall county where there were two killed and eighteen injured and one in Lexington where a young boy brought a gun to school and injured himself. In the world, today kids think that guns are toys and that they cannot really hurt or kill another person, but it’s not always the kids that do a school shooting. In the last couple of years, 19,392 or more committed suicides with guns. In 2014 1.6 percent of 100,000 killed themselves with guns from ages 16 to 17 years old. The gun suicide rate is still growing, last year there were 15,549 suicides by guns. The highest percentage of suicides are teens with firearms. In 2016 more than half of the suicides are with firearms. Teen suicide rates have gone up over the last five years, but it’s not only in teens. all suicides rates have gone up, most of this suicides are done with firearms. In the united states today, lots of families at least have one gun per house, but what people don't realize is that it gives people the easy way out. In some states, it’s very easy to register for a gun and get one. Guns make it very easy because you just have to pull the trigger. Also, people have murder-suicides, where they take others lives then take their own. There have been many murder-suicides, most are done with guns. In 2016 one father killed his wife, 5-year-old daughter, and 17 month-old daughter. After killing them, he took his own life, he did all this with a firearm. If we had more gun control, then if he had tried to get a gun he could not because he had a mental issue. He had left the family a few months before and had just recently had come back.
