Women have the right to receive equal pay as men. At the end of the month everyone looks forward to their paycheck, but women still aren’t getting the same amount of money as men for doing the same jobs (A Guide 1). They use the money to pay for bills, car notes, and other things that they want or need. Also, they have to supply for their children. Men no longer necessarily have dominance in the work field, but women still aren’t getting equal pay. Big companies tend to discriminate when it comes to women such as Walmart, Abercrombie & Fitch, and General Electric stores (Nittle 1). Back in the early 1900’s, women couldn’t even have jobs. Today, women are running companies and performing that same exact job duties as men but still aren’t paid equally. All working women feel as they should stand up for sex discrimination dealing with their work place. Women make up nearly half of the U.S. labor force, and by having less money how could they afford disabilities problems and etc(A Guide 2). Gender discrimination in the work force foes as far back as the 1930s. An example will be 1977 an average women made 8,618 while an average man (Emily 3). Likewise a movie actor Matt Damon makes $25 million for just a film while a female actor Chastain only makes $7 million (Guerrasio 4). According to CNN Money, “men still make more than women in most professions -- considerably more in some occupations than others, according to a new study by the job search site Glassdoor”. Although we like to comfort ourselves with the idea that we have gotten our rightfully earned rights, we had not been given bathroom breaks until 1998. Furthermore, employees are still afraid to have a voice in the workforce. Employers establish rules that let laborers know that they are inferior.
Women were granted the right to work in labor industries, as all the men joined in the World Wars. Even though women were still discriminated in the workforce by receiving lower pay than men, the number of women working increased around the United States. After women began changing the labor industries, their voting rights were granted, changing the political views of the United States. Even though women were discriminated against throughout society in the 1920’s, they still fought for their rights as women that deserved an important role within our society. This change in women’s attitude has influenced women across the world to value themselves and their importance.

Women have faced gender wage discrimination for decades. The gender pay gap is the difference between what a male and a female earns. It happens when a man and a woman standing next to each other doing the same job for the same number of hours get paid different salaries. On average, full-time working- women earn just “77 cents for every dollar a man earn.” When you compare a woman and a man doing the same job, “the pay gap narrows to 81 percent (81%)” (Rosin). Fifty-one years ago, in order to stop the gender gap discrimination, Congress enacted the Equal Pay Act of 1963. The act states that all women should receive “equal pay for equal work”. Unfortunately, even in 2014 the gender pay gap persists and even at the highest echelons of the corporate; therefore, the equal pay act is a failure.
Throughout history, women have always experienced sexism on different levels. For example, not being able to vote because of their gender. Most of these issues don't exist in the US or other countries anymore, except for the wage gap between men and women. Women get paid less than men do, especially if they both have the same job. Women should get equal pay because they can do the same jobs as men, they can get as good as an education as men, and it affects other people including a woman's family.
When President John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act of 1963 into law, he hoped that it would allow working women to finally earn the same amount of money as men; however, more than half a century later, men continue to out earn women in almost every field of work (Lipman para. 4). Male dominated fields tend to pay more than female dominated fields at similar skill levels. In 2012, women earned an average of $691 per week while men earned an average of $854 per week. Furthermore, the majority of women remain unaware that they are earning less than their male colleagues (Hegewisch para. 1).
Although women have been active members of the workforce for almost 70 years now, there is still a bias against women working. In the United States, there is still an economic bias against women throughout the stages of hiring, payment, and stereotypical jobs. Women should be able to be hired for the same jobs as men, be paid the same, understand that they can choose their jobs, and pay the same amount of money as men do for similar products.

For many years in United States, equal salary pay for women has been a major issue that women have been fighting for decades. This began back in World War II, when the National Labor Board urged equalize the salary rates for women with the same rates that males were getting of the same professions. (Rowen) Although, traditionally most women do not work to provide for there family and there are not so many independent women during World War II. From the beginning of history and to this day women still get paid less than the average man, but why? Whoever said that women are incapable of good work performance? Whoever said that women do not have the same responsibilities to maintain? What really makes a women’s work inferior to men? The answer is nothing. Today, women are depended on just as much as men, and are capable of performing at their level. However, a full-time working woman earns only seventy-seven cents for every dollar a man makes. These days women make up half the workplace in our society; they work just as hard and for the same reasons. Women deserve to be paid at an equal rate as men because they are relied on to uphold the same responsibilities and are just as qualified to perform at a man’s level.
Women Deserve the Same Rights as Men From the beginning of time, women have played a powerful role in the shaping of this world. They have stood by idly and watched as this country moved on without them, and yet they have demanded equal rights as the nation rolls along. Through the years, the common belief has been that women could not perform as well as men in anything, but over the years that belief has been proven wrong time and time again. So as time marches on, women have clawed and fought their way up the ladder to gain much needed equal respect from the opposite sex. However, after many years of pain and suffering, the battle for equal rights has not yet been won.
Many individuals believe, especially men, that women should have a different salary rate than men make in their earnings. Women are believed to be less intelligent, weaker, and small for many types of careers. So therefore, the payment for females should be lower at all time. However, according to Statistic of Labor, females tend to achieve more tasks than men do. The rights of women should include equal pay no matter their gender.
