Although, many college students can master time management skills very well, almost half of those same college students, including me, can get derailed and not handle time management skills very well when faced with a college environment’s freedom and flexibility. College students having to leave high school and enter into a different environment, struggle to balance personal and work commitments, as well as academic commitments. Consequently, having to struggle with all that on their backs, it can lead college students to giving up without managing their time more logically. One major reason why college students have very poor time management skills is mainly because of students procrastinating when it comes to doing their school work. Perhaps, there are many reasons why college students have poor management skills, but the biggest reason of all is me being a procrastinator. …show more content…
While working on time management skills, I would appreciate it to learn the responsibilities of taking care of all of my school obligations, so that I will have the time for all of my friends and also enough time in order to have fun. Another reason why I feel that I have poor management skills because of procrastination is because I feel that I do not have that motivation that helps me to continue on with the obligations my teachers assign and finishing them on time, without having to rush to get them all done in a timely manner. In the same way, college students also feel that they do not have that certain motivation or that they are not organized, so they procrastinate at doing their
Scheduling and planning are necessary to be successful as a working student. Setting time aside for school assignments is a priority, but it is also important to build in personal time for you, your family, and friends (Blais & Hayes, 2011). S...
The typical college course requires the successful completion of challenging assignments, such as exams, term papers, and presentations. With deadlines looming for these assignments, some students will begin their work right away, while others will wait until the last minute to get started. While research evidence does not support the utility of last-minute strategies, such as cramming for exams, students may nonetheless engage in these behaviors as a result of procrastination (Schraw, Wadkins, & Olafson, 2007; Senecal, Koestner, & Vallerand, 1995). For active procrastinators, their act could lead to positive outcomes, such as high grades,

I write this clear and concise reflection to identify and evaluate an academic problem that I feel is negatively impacting my studies which is time management; otherwise, I find lot of difficulty to manage my time.
College students have to balance work, family, and college activists and any delaying behavior from within can cause an unbalance. This behavior is called procrastinating and it can lead to problems in many areas of a student’s life. College students are the worst hit by this type of behavior because they have many different activities to focus on instead of studying. These activities can cause students to study when they have time which often is usually too short amount of time. There is a time and place to relax and enjoy life, but if students focus on playing around instead of getting their assignments done, college life will be stressful.
As an adult student, it is not easy to manage the demands of work; spouse and children; and the need to set aside time to read, research, write, and complete specified assignments. The biggest complaint conveyed by adult students is that they simply don’t have enough time. The fact is time management is crucial so you don’t lose sight of your goals. Students’ time is a limited resource. Like other limited resources, time can be more or less effectively managed (Britton, 1991, p.405). It is hard to address my perspective of my own procrastination and my ability to learn. Now that I’m older and looking at the facts of where I am now in life, I should be a lot further in my college goals. Many young adults wish someone sat them down early in life and guided them in a wiser direction. A college degree is essential in the career world.

Procrastination is a tendency to postpone, put off, delay, reschedule, take a rain check on, put on ice, hold off, or to defer what is necessary to reach a particular goal.(Roget's 21st Century Thesaurus, Third Edition. Philip Lief Group 2009.) While attending College some students find it hard to juggle work, family, and friends. Leading most students down a dangerous path to procrastination; that negative impact affect students from their physical health, mental health, and social health.
Keeps you organised: Order is needed to effectively manage time. Knowing what and how to prioritise certain things makes a difference otherwise things can easily spiral out of control and the essence of time management is lost.
What do we know about time management? As adults we should know a lot about time management. We all strive to become the best that we can be. This alone should encourage us to learn about time management. Every aspect of our lives depends on it. If we try to plan, organize, and execute our ideas most of the time we can manage it well, but when we go the other route, and jump out there feet first, most of the time we do not do as well. This is not the case in every light, but usually it is the norm. Even as we sit in class trying to better ourselves by improving on our education, we learn that we must manage time to the best of our abilities. This is not done only for school, but for our families for those of us that have children and spouses. A lot of the time, we manage to get everything done and leave ourselves out in the cold when it comes to making time for ourselves. If it is not our job or school we are trying to meet someone else's needs.
Time management is one of the most crucial factors to college success for every student in college. Firstly, while living on campus, time usually isn’t an issue to students because they live on school grounds. There are many advantages that come with time and one of them is getting to class on time. However, this is actually the opposite for commuters because getting to class on time is quite a struggle. They have to struggle to wake up earlier than usual in order to use the public transportation. Students living on campus also have more access to on-site facilities because they don’t have to worry about going home so there is no time limit on how long they occupy these areas. An example is staying in the library because this is where you can get help from tutors on subjects you are struggling with. Also, they can use the writing center for as long as it is open without worrying about time. In contrast, commuters are limited to the use of these facilities because they have to take time into consideration while staying at the library or work...
(Claessens, Brigitte J.C.2004). adds that time “cannot be managed, because time is an invariable factor. Only the way a person deals with time can be”. Nevertheless, time management has become increasingly essential to businesses and organizations. This is especially true over the last two decades, as a result of expanding global competition and increased demands for the immediate availability of products and services. Given the increased pace of everyday life, people increasingly need to be more organized. Efficient time management practices support business students in acquiring key skills that will assist them both in their educatio...
Schedules are a difficult thing to balance. A person must find the time to complete a number of tasks in a day. A normal adult may have time to get everything done and still have time to spare. The normal college student on the other hand is constantly on the go. College students have busy schedules that include working, studying, and socializing.
When you control your time, and work more efficiently, you're able to learn more and increase your experience faster. Time management should also include more than teaching, scholarship, and service. Effective time management also means reserving time for recovery, and time for financial factors, time for family, and time for friends. Having a goal-oriented strategy that makes an effective use of your time will bring you success no matter how you look at it. There isn’t anything we can do about time itself. We can change how we deal with events
Procrastination is a concept that is very relatable and real that if you ask anyone in the world whether they’ve ever procrastinated in their life, undeniably their answer will be yes. It’s been dubbed as normal and has been accepted by several procrastinators as a part of their life. Per the Merriam-Webster dictionary normal is defined as “conforming to a type, standard, or regular pattern” (Merriam-Webster 2017). As a high school/early college student there shouldn’t be any room for procrastination because of the many seminars that talk about time management and accepting responsibility and pride for your work. I procrastinate daily. It’s become a natural part of my life that my schedule is now based around doing my work on the last possible day that it’s due. I might procrastinate the entire week but I can never relax because in the back of my mind I know that I have work to complete. Procrastination is a form of relief if several tasks are piling up, but in the long run procrastinating is only putting off the inevitable that will end up as a poor job.
