Many professional athletes and entertainers obtain a large sum of money, do you think they should be making theses high salaries? That is the question I've been pondering. Personally, I disagree. Why are these undeserving people obtaining these salaries. Why is it not the countless individuals who help make the world a better place every day getting these high salaries. And, do they truly deserve these high salaries? Today, entertainers and athletes obtain undeserving, high salaries through ways that doesn't seem to help out others. There are countless people struggling on streets trying to obtain a single dollar. Yet celebrities and athletes spend their money on pointless items worth millions of U.S. dollars every year. Perhaps they should use the money wisely or donate to the millions of charities pleading for a few dollars just to help a good cause. Not everyone needs help, not everyone wants help, but at one point youve wanted and needed help. Help with a couple bucks, a little bit to eat …show more content…
Doctors, save millions of lives every year throughout the world. Firefighters, endure the hot flames of a fire to rescue individuals trapped in a burning building, risking their lives. Policemen put their lives on the line to keep the community safe, and to enforce justice. Soldiers risk their lives to fight and defend our country through the harsh struggles with other fellow soldiers. They leave loved ones behind with a teary goodbye. These individuals are risking and committing their lives to serving people they don't even know, with low to decent salaries. Celebrities and athletes are wasting their time by using up all their earnings for a warehouse full of expensive, antique cars or dozens of mansions for a life of riches and no troubles. Those people deserve the high salaries that entertainers and athletes are well known for. Wouldn't you think
Americans believe that athletes, celebrities, and CEOs are the highest paid jobs in America. This belief is true however the average income of these three jobs is nowhere near what the perception is. Athletes are the most confusing when it comes to pay since people do not factor in that an average professional is only 4.85 years, NFL is 3.5 years, MLB is 5.6 years, NBA is 4.8, and NHL is 5.5 years, (RSVLTS, 2013) United States Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that an average income for “athletes and sport competitors” was only $47,710 (BLS, 2017). People believe that athletes are only the stars you see on television, but this is not the case. Athletes are risking their health for that paycheck. They spend a majority of their lives in the gym or on
Professional athletes are highly overpaid. Compensation should be based on job importance, not entertainment. If vital, life-saving professions are not rewarded for the stress of their jobs, there may come a day when those jobs are much harder to fill. Pay the individuals who make a difference in the
Emil Zatopek once said “An athlete cannot run with money in his pockets. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head.” This quote applies to every college athlete. The quote means that an athlete may not be getting paid in college, but if they put in the hard work and dedication they can make it to the big leagues. College football is the second most watched sport in America. And the athletes playing the game do not even get paid a penny to play the game. In the sports world. this has been talked about for an extremely long time. College athletes put their body on the line for injury. They put their grades in on the line because of the hours they put on the court, or field (Keolanui). They also sell their apparel at the game and at stores and they get no money at all (Keolanui).
Should professional athletes earn millions of dollars for playing a game? Athletes should not be making millions and millions of dollars while more important jobs earn significantly less. There are doctors who save lives daily and they do not even make a tenth of what some athletes make. It is crazy to believe that someone is really worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and all they have to do is play a sport; a sport that millions of people would play for free if given the chance.
Have you ever compared how much pro athletes make to how much a real job makes like a nurse or a teacher? Well the outcome is ridiculous. According to the 7th grade middle school Language Arts class of St.Pius X Catholic School, some people agree that Professional Athletes are paid too much. Furthermore athletes are paid too much because a normal job, as I said, make a fraction of what real jobs make like a doctor and doctors take real risks.
While he makes much money, he gives back to society. He helps others in need with millions of dollars. Doing this could save many lives. While this may be true, athletes aren’t careful on how they spend the rest of their earnings. For example, Derek Jeter has bought a penthouse and expensive items for other people to adore him (TWC). He could be using this money on situations found all over the world and easily handle his money otherwise, to live an easier life. Greater things can refer to helping homeless families, education, and eradicating disease. Other athletes have done worse, by going bankrupt or using drugs. Most athletes are careless with their own money, and shouldn’t be dealt to handle that much money. In the article, “Are Athletes Overpaid?”, Elizabeth Vollmer stated, “78% of pro football players go broke after retirement and 60% of basketball players lose all their funds within 5 years of retirement.” How can these types of people be trusted with money, if they never learned finance management? These sports play their athletes the most, and they are still wasting it on luxurious items, alcohol, or cars. With this, they not only hurt themselves but the economy. This brings more poor people into the world’s hands to solve. While athletes are given lots of money for a few years, they do not realize to not spend all of it, if they dropped out of school. So, athletes should be paid
If it is not for the fans that so eagerly want to see their favorite athletes perform and pay to watch them, then an athlete would not get paid. They entertain people by putting on a good show, and the more the demand for the particular sport, the more the players get paid. They also bring in millions for the franchises or teams they work for, so it is only fair they get paid as much. The better a player or athlete, the more he is worth. Professional athletes may get large paychecks, but they also have very large medical bills.
Are elite athletes/sports men or women being paid too much if not how are there high salaries justified, if so, why, and how could there money be put to better use?
“Someone who tosses a ball shouldn’t earn 700 times as much as someone who saves lives. ”(Spector, para 4-5). Numerous individuals hold the opinion that athletes, a person most young people look up to, should receive lower compensation, conversely, I disagree with this notion due to a variety of factors. Professional athletes do not earn a significant amount of money due to their self-imposed challenge to not settle for average, as their organizations generate substantial profits, and the athlete is unable to control the amount of money offered to them. Perhaps the primary reason athletes are not compensated astronomically is that they must devote their full lives to pursuing this goal.
What should athletes deserve to be paid? Many players have risen to stardom by becoming a professional athlete. Athletes have come from many different backgrounds; some from wealthy and some from poverty raised backgrounds. Salaries are continuing to rise, and money doesn’t seem to be an issue. Athletes are getting what they want from the owners by negotiating through their agents. Athletes’ salaries aren’t just from their owners, but they come from other sources also. Athletes get paid an enormously high salary for the work they do. Really all they do is entertain us. We should consider the value of their work and pay them accordingly. They do not deserve the extreme amount they get paid and something should be done about it.
Many people think actors and professional athletes get paid too much money, and I will be proving why they get paid the perfect amount. Actors and professional athletes get paid well because they know how lucrative it will be for the long term of endorsements and sponsorships. Another reason why they get paid the right amount is because professional athletes and actors also have to deal with some crazy demands from the fans, hate from millions of people, their safety from fans like when they go out to eat or just wanna hang out but don’t have any privacy. People complain that professional athletes get paid too much, but what they don’t understand is that they need a lot of money because they spend a lot of money on equipment and they need the best equipment to become one of the best in the world and when they become one of the best they get
Should professional athletes be paid less? This past summer athletes have been paid over millions of dollars to resign contracts to play for a professional sports team. Professional athletes should be paid less money because doctors, the president, and other people aren’t paid as much as these athletes.
When addressing the value of entertainment, there is without a doubt, that we as a society value entertainment highly. But there is no reason that these athletes, who are here to merely entertain us, get paid higher wages than those that save our lives and teach us such as medical doctors and teachers. I find it ridiculous that players make millions of dollars a year, and yet demand more. The entertainment that these athletes provide is solely entertainment; it is not essential to the function or productivity of society. If I were to become a professional football player I would not complain about my salary for many reasons. I am playing the sport that I love and getting paid for it. The minimum wage for football is well over $100,000 a year, as is for many professional sports. These reasons by their lonesome are enough to warrant that the salary professional athletes are paid is suffice.
When the average American envisions a professional athlete, they imagine that athlete to be in a massive mansion, with a garage full of expensive and exotic cars, relaxing in designer clothes and spending the day pondering what they could spend their money on. Their lives are great and even after they retire they remain in the country’s spotlight and stay wealthy beyond all belief. Why do professional athletes lead such a good life if they do not fulfill any necessary functions within society? Professional athletes make too much money in comparison to hard working professionals who are employed with jobs that are more essential and important for the general population’s survival and effectiveness. These professional athletes are making huge amounts of money that they do not deserve and something needs to be changed to remove this.
Firstly, I think that entertainers’ athletes are paid so much because they deserve it. An actor isn’t going just wake up one day and say, “I think I’m going to be an A-list act...
