Scientific research has found that if a person consumes (2 grams/day) of hydrogenated fat it significantly increases a person's risk of various conditions: hardened arteries, diabetes, and heart attack. Due to the FDA, food labels must incorporate trans-fat. However labeling laws have enabled food companies to list a food having zero grams of trans-fat although there is half-gram in it.

Reason One A reason why I support the disbanding of hydrogenated oils is because it can increase the risk of an individual to get Myocardial infarction. Over the years, concern for trans-fatty acids and hydrogenated oils has increased the risk of coronary disease. A group of scientists developed the link between the consumption of hydrogenated oils and a severe case of myocardial infraction between approximately 230 patients went into six hospitals in Boston and 282 control test subjects. Many hospitals have found it was due to high intake of hydrogenated oils and fatty acids.
Reason Two
Another factor that contributes to my reason to ban hydrogenated oils is the more likelihood to get Coronary Heart disease. It was commonly used through 1950s to today’s time and overtime scientists have conducted experiments to test the substance. Today scientist have proven that there is a connection between hydrogenated oils (trans fat) and increased levels of “bad” cholesterol , thus causing increased risk of heart disease. (FDA, 2002). The oil is “no longer accepted as being safe,” as scientists predicted many years ago (FDA, 2013). The controversy with the ban began when 20 children and their parents filed a lawsuit against McDonalds. They informed the court that McDonalds should provide consumers with the nutritional value and make a funding program with the fears of fast food. Overall McDonalds was publicly brought down by the incident and was in turmoil. Humans require about one teaspoon of fat each day to maintain a healthy body. However on average, American’s eat one hundred pounds of fat annually.
Reason Four
Another significant reason why I believe that hydrogenated fats should disappear is that it has a high connection to diabetes. Hydrogenated oils has been proved in scientific studies to be linked with type two diabetes. The weight gain from the fatty oils results in an impaired glucose system. The impaired glucose system associates with insulin resistance which doesn’t allow for insulin to respond with cells. This results in a high blood sugar which can lead to more health problems than diabetes. Reason Five

America has always been about being the biggest nation: the biggest houses, the biggest cars, biggest cities and unfortunately the biggest bodies. There is no doubt that fast food is causing major health problems for many Americans today. In his documentary, Super Size Me, released in 2004 Morgan Spurlock decides to eat only food from McDonald’s for thirty days to see how it would affect his health. Spurlock starts out healthier than the average man for his age. Throughout the film, we can see that his health gradually degenerates and reaches a critical point, before his thirty days are over. Super Size Me is very persuasive in showing the negative effect in fast food restaurants by using logos, pathos, and ethos.

David Zinczenko states numbers and facts that open the eyes of his reader along with state his position of how fast food states no warnings that it could make someone obese or develop type 2 diabetes. His first statement is telling his readers a little background about how fast food affected his life and how he was once obese because he consumed such meals. Zinczenko explains how the increase in diabetes (specially type 2) were linked to the high consumption of fast food meals. With dental, digestive, and other corporal problems such as diabetes and obesity proliferating in the United States, the public is becoming increasingly aware of the dangers of unhealthy foods. Some ingredients that had previously been deemed harmless and have been in use for decades have recently been proved to be harmful and even potentially lethal. Thus, scientists, nutritionists, and food manufacturers are becoming more concerned about detrimental eating habits originating from the consumption of damaging ingredients that are copious in foods. A greater concern, however, is that these ingredients can still be found in a variety of food products and have yet to be withdrawn from grocery shelves. It is difficult to conceive that such toxic ingredients as high fructose corn syrup can still be found in a plethora of foods and drinks, even after multiple experiments that have proven that high fructose corn syrup is severely detrimental to the human body and the usage of HFCS, instead of diminishing, has dramatically augmented over the decades.
For example, a bundle at McDonald’s can feed up to four people at one time, and it only costs about fifteen dollars! So, in the long run, it is just easier to go pick up some fast food rather than wasting your time cooking an actual meal. Lastly, even though fast food is very cheap and in every corner, it is not healthy at all. Studies have proven that a person that ate McDonald’s for his meals for a full month ended up having some serious health problems. In conclusion, even though it is very easy to access and very cheap, fast food has some serious health issues and is very harmful.

However, something like this documentary comes and shows that in reality McDonalds does not care if we get fat or incur future health problems. They will still get their money either way. This documentary could be used as an eye opener to educate the youth on how nutrition and working out can lead to a longer life span, less health problems, and stronger bones. I fully support this documentary and everything it shows; it can lead to a healthier future and Americans should this use chance to make a healthier tomorrow. Saturated fats come from animal sources like steak, hamburger and pork. Unsaturated fats are derived from plants. There are also trans fats that are considered poison for the body. They raise the bad cholesterol in your body, and should never be included in a healthy diet. There are also fatty acids like omega-3 and omega-6 that are good for a healthy body.
Sunflower oil is largely omega 6 polyunsaturates, so if you use sunflower oil regularly, you need to be sure you're getting enough omega 3s in your diet from other sources to balance it out. Re-using the oil more than a few times for deep-frying could cause the formation of harmful trans fats. There is nothing redeemable about trans fats.
