Children Living With Abusive Parents
Children have been getting abused by their parents for a long time. There are several types of abuse on how children are abused by their parents around the world. Should children stay with their abusive parents or not? There is many reasons why children should not stay with their abusive parents.
First, children staying with their abusive parents has caused them their health and sometimes even their death. Kids who get exposed at home with violence they are affected by having a hard time learning and having a social life also will show violent behavior (UNICEF). Getting abused by their parents can cause children to be violent and

“Family interaction significantly impacts the development of the children in the home, regardless of income level” (Miller). What goes on with the child and his family makes a huge impact on his life and the way he develops. “...damaging consequences of abuse can not only reshape a child’s brain but also last a lifetime” (Schulte). Not is only the child's brain and develop is affected but also the life of how he will live as an …show more content…
“Teens reported that spending time with parents, being hugged, being told that they are loved and doing things as a family are important to them. (Miller). Teens have said that they like when their parents hug them and spend time with them. Teens want to be with their parents but its hard for them to get love and hugs from them when they don't know how to care for them. “...a family at high to moderate risk includes parents who do not understand basic child development and may discipline inappropriately for the child's age, who lack the necessary skills to care for and manage a child, who use physical punishment harshly and excessively, and who supervise their children inappropriately” (Doak). The child is more at rick of getting abused by his or her parent when the parent does not know how to manage their child. Parents sometimes do not know how they are suppose to treat their children why they act like that which can cause them to be
When it comes to the topics of violence, murder, and mayhem among children, most will readily agree that children who committed these acts did so because their environmental situation inspired it. However, like me, some are convinced that biological factors are the main reasons children commit violent acts.
One reason is there are several stereotypes: sexual/physical abuse, hereditary factors and exposure to violence at home. Second reason that leads to violent behavior is physical neglect by parents. Third reason is juveniles was incarcerated for acts of violence such as: fighting peers or their parents, hitting teachers or instructors, bringing weapon to school to scare his peers and etc. All these come from mistreatment to their children when they was younger. When that happen all children start going crazy and not listening to their parent or anyone that been in their shoes before they was born to even see this happen.
This theory suggest that parents who abuse their children have negative interaction patterns with them and will discipline their children more harshly. Belsky explains that parents who tends have a predisposition towards anxiety, depression will become irritated towards their child (Popple & Vecchiolla, 2007). That could lead them to trying to physically or instrumentally control their child, but loses control of themselves and resulting in punishing the child too severely. One example can be is that a child is loudly playing with a toy and the parent gets overly angered and frustrated. They go to punish the child, but instead of simply disciplining the child, they physically harm the child. With this behavior, it could lead to severely harming the child and them learning bad
Abusive parents may show disregard for the child's own needs, limited abilities, and feelings. 5.
Perpetrators of child abuse are most often the child’s own parents. A study done in 2005 showed 79.4 percent of perpetrators were parents, and 6.8 percent were other relatives. Almost 1 out of every 100 children in the United States are abused as a child and an average of 5 children die everyday from child abuse (USDHHS). Some cases may be more extreme than others, but child abuse still has a dramatic effect on a person’s life as it continues to affect the victim through their adolescence and into their adulthood. Not only does child abuse affect a person’s relationship life, but structuring them into who they become in life by altering specific triggers in their brain.

According to the book, Children Who See Too Much, frequent exposure to violence changes the structure of the developing brain. And, it also leaves marks on the chemistry of a young child’s brain (Groves, 37). The children begin to be afraid of their environment because they see their world as unpredictable and dangerous. Hence, them become very aware of their environment, they become guarded waiting for the next dangerous thing that might happen (Groves, 46) Seeing violence at home also affects the child in school. Because their fight or flight system is always running, it begins to interfere with the ability to do learning tasks in school. “They do not complete assignments. They may be highly active and restless.” (Groves, 47) “It affects their emotional development their social functioning, their ability to learn and focus in school, their moral development, and their ability to negotiate in intimate relationships as adolescents and adults.” (Groves, 57). Children are also at risk for both internalizing factors such as anxiety, depression, and self-blame. They are also susceptible to externalizing factors such as aggression and delinquency behaviors. Witnessing or hearing abuse can also affect children in the long run. If they witness long term abuse, it can become “a form of modeling for present and future behavior” according to the Handbook of Domestic Violence Intervention Strategies by Albert
Some children who have violent tempers acquire them through their parents. Could this be a motive for these children to go out a killing sprees? But then again the question of whether or not the child is being abused is brought into prospective. Some say if a child is beat or abused in any other way, that would be a incentive for them to be violent. But is this rational? Most children who have had encounters with violence are usually white, intelligent, middle class and heterosexual. Sounds like a pretty normal child doesn’t it? But what reason could be behind this for such a typical child to react in such a hurtful way? Some would say because of the parents. Put the blame on the parents.
Domestic violence is a major problem in the United States. When most people think of domestic violence, they think of one person beating the other person in a relationship. Webster defines domestic violence as “the inflicting of physical injury by one family or household member on another.” Domestic violence has a major effect on children. Some people say that the violence has no effect, while others argue that the violence has a negative effect on children. Domestic violence scars children for the rest of their lives. Once children witness the act of violence, they are more likely to have problems throughout the rest of their lives. Domestic Violence has a negative effect on the way children behave, the way they learn, the careers they choose,
Who Murdered Hae? Adnan Syed was convicted of killing his girlfriend Hae min lee. I feel that adnan did not murder Hae and had an unfair unjust trial. Jay testified at trial that he had never been part of any premeditated plan to kill Hae. Adnan and Jay spoke on the phone on the night of January 12th, but their conversation consisted entirely of, “Whatcha doing?”
There are many factors that influence youth violence and as well, various effects that it may have on the surrounding world. Homes containing absent parents, a low income, and substance abuse, have negative effects on the children, making them become more at risk for violent behaviour (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). Children raised in these types of families tend to relay the same behaviour on to their future families and children since the family is the first primary method of socialization (Voisin, 2007, pg 53). A child is at risk for violence if they have been a victim or an observer of violence in their past. Youth violence may also develop if the child has a mental disability, a low intelligence level or is extremely introverted (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2013). Peers and the community also ...
Some of the behavioral problems children of family violence suffer from are aggression, withdrawal, and frustration. Children of family violence are often more violent than other children (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing). Some stress management techniques that children learn are bursts of anger. Violence is learned as an efficient way to solve problems. They often model their parent's conflict resolution techniques. These children are often withdrawn and internalize their emotions. Most of these children are isolated from their peers. Frequent change of residence could be a cause of children's isolation from peers (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing). Children of family violence are often frustrated because they can not deal with their problems. Often, their education is disrupted by family violence and they start having problems concentrating at school and with truancy. Most are underachievers as a result of low self-esteem which leads to low participation in class or other school activities (Children's Services Plan).
Domestic abuse and child abuse have widespread social and emotional costs. Family violence affects all segments of the family. The impact of violence on childrens' lives appears to be far more substantial than the impact on adults lives(Family, Pg. 1). In most cases of family violence the family has conformed to a pattern in which the line of family violence started generations ago. This pattern must be broken before more children growup and live in a family that resorts to violence. But there are also children who live in loving families who do not resort to violence and as these children mature they start resorting to violence to help solve and deal with their problems. Studies show that physical punishment could cause aggression in children, but other studies show that even abusive parental violence does not always lead to an increase in children's aggression. Only by recognizing and addressing the multifactorial roots of violence in our society can we move closer to living in peace.
Children who suffer physical abuse are violent, most children brought up in violent homes especially where wife battering is common are violent. They become tomorrow murderers and perpetrators of crimes of violence. Children who suffer abuse also tend to be alcoholism, they take alcohol to reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation. They also use alcohol to enhance their self-esteem, which in reality it does
Family factors include being exposed to violence, deplorable family functionality, diminutive emotional attachments to parents and poor monitoring of children.
